My fellow classmates and graduates of 2014, I want to thank you for letting me speak to you today about one of the most important things in life and in school, perseverance. Perseverance is hard work, patience, commitment, endurance, and motivation. Perseverance is being able to bear obstacles and difficulties calmly and without complaint. Perseverance is trying again and again, even after you've failed and may feel all hope is lost. It is believing yourself even if you are the only support you have. Everyone interprets perseverance in their own way and to me it consists of three major elements: strength, patience, and of course motivation. Without strength, one cannot persevere past the strenuous challenges they are sure to encounter on their journey. Without determination, one will surely give up once faced with these burdens. Every journey is a long one in life, so without patience nobody would wait long enough to persevere when the road gets bumpy. In essence, perseverance is immeasurably significant in everything we do. Strength is such important factor of perseverance because ...
Imagine if you were a eleven year old girl having to be the one the trust and put everything on your shoulders.Perseverance is when someone does something even though they know it’s difficult. The breadwinner by Deborah Ellis is about this girl who only wants to be free from the rough times in Kabul.Parvana shows perseverance throughout the book in many different ways.
“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all. Dale Carnegie believed that perseverance could overcome even the harshest obstacles. Perseverance is inspired by a purpose, an unsatisfied drive to achieve a goal. During a cataclysmic event, only people with a purpose endure.
In the story, A Long Walk to Waters, written by Linda Sue Park, the readers are introduced to many different individuals that were able to survive challenging environments. Those individuals used those factors, perseverance, cooperation, and independence. Those factors have allowed individuals to make it past through the harsh environments throughout their journey. Perseverance shows how those individuals kept on going without giving up. Meanwhile, cooperation represents how struggling individuals are able to work together in order to achieve their goal. Last but not least independence shows how individuals can conquer a hurdle by him or herself.
... front of me since the road to success is far away. Facing unknown obstacles is like drowning in water because obstacles are weighted heavily and sometimes I can't lift it. I just have to use my strength and hopefully, I can raise it off me. I learned that sometimes it is better to have a little false hope than to have none. Perseverance doesn’t not come naturally to all people but eventually it will come because they will find it. It helps them find their inner self by going through obstacles so that they can be more of a life challenge. I believe that this can change a person who they are because it is something everyone needs to go through life.
As many people have told me before, it is a very different ballgame than middle school’s easy going years. There is much more work, the classes are harder, and the environment is completely different. Many people’s grades may slip and they may cower in fear at the barrage of assignments they receive class after class. Unlike other people, I am confident in my ability to excel at all classes and to sustain exemplary grades. Therefore, while many are trembling in fear at the prodigious assignments and work is bombarding them from all angles, I will be at ease, knowing that whatever obstacle is thrown my way, I will conquer it and be its own
“The good guy always wins” is a phrase we often hear growing up. Parents reassure their kids that the hero will win despite the trials he encounters. Joseph Campbell, who coined the term “monomyth”, identifies these trials as a part of a pattern in the hero’s journey. This pattern consists of separation, initiation, and return. Osmosis Jones goes through this pattern with only a few pieces missing. The hero in this story teaches others that giving up is not an option. One must have perseverance to complete a goal, in this case, to save Frank. The journey that Jones takes to help him get through the monomyth helps develop the theme of perseverance because he never gives up on what he wants.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines perseverance as the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. In today’s society, there are so many walls and barriers that prevent humans from achieving their dreams and goals and people begin giving up. However, great poets such as Homer and famous music groups such as Mumford and Sons have used the strife of humanity to compose works that can be used to inspire and institute hope for humanity. With perseverance, there are three key aspects, struggle, loyalty, and strength. The struggle is what allows humans to learn, grow, and better themselves, the loyalty demonstrated provides motivation for success, and the personal strength allows the person to build
Growing up, my parents never expected perfection but expected that I try to accomplish my best. The effort I’ve put forth in learning has been reflected in my grades throughout my high school career. I’ve entered myself in vigorous course work such as AP Government and AP English to become well prepared for my college career, all while maintaining a 4.4 grade point average this year. Not only do I engage in AP classes, but up until this year I had no study halls. I wanted my day to be packed full of interesting classes that I would enjoy learning about. My grades and choice of classes prove the effort that I put forth in my learning. Working hard now can only pay off in the future. Learning now creates a well-rounded human being. Working to learn is why I am so dedicated to my studies now.
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
The speaker is attempting to reassure the person and encourage them not to give up. Having this kind of strength is known as perseverance. Perseverance is fighting through the pain, not giving up, and not letting the struggle get the best of you. Many students show strength in this way without even realizing it. Students are under a lot of pressure to do well in school, and excel in sports or other extracurricular activities, and have a balanced social life, yet not go crazy. Several of them also face constant struggles while trying to do these things and it is hard for them, but they persevere. They stay up all night doing homework, give up pointless little things that waste their time, and do their best to stay strong. School is rough emotionally, but with the strength of perseverance and the motivation of graduation, students manage to make it through. A good friend of mine from church, Mr. Steve, recently passed away because of cancer. He was one of the best people I knew, and during his fight with cancer, he showed true strength. Mr. Steve never let it get the best of him. He was a server and could not stand the thought of not being able to help others. Even though he was slowly dying and losing strength, he still came up to the church and did his job. While his physical strength was failing, his loving attitude remained the same. Mr. Steve was a role model to me. He showed me what
Perseverance is a very powerful word, many people go through hard times and don’t make it to see the other side. My story of perserverance starts sophomore year during football season. As two-a-days started everyone was excited to get through and get to play our first football game. As the season progressed I started feeling pains in my shoulder constantly; a few weeks go by with the pain continously getting worse. I specifically remember the first incident during a game, it was against White Oak about half way through the third quarter, as I was running to go make the play, as I dove to make the tackle I landed on my side and I felt a pop, not thinking anything about it I got up. When I reached my two feet something just didn’t feel, my shoulder
In life, I face obstacles that I must learn to overcome. I encounter obstacles everyday trying to organize large groups of surgeons and accommodate their surgery, clinical and personal schedules to get them to an educational meeting. In the article “Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way” written by Anna Harrington, she reflects on how resilience is important when trying to solve stressful situations.
Perseverance is steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Correctional environments take their toll on all who pass through the
These two characteristics go working together as (Colker) talks about perseverance as the willingness to fight for one 's beliefs whether related to children 's needs or education issues, which sometimes requires you to take risks.
More is learned from failure than from success. Kids need to experience failure because, it helps them work harder for what they want to achieve life, failure helps them become stronger in real life problems, failure also can teach kids to be thoughtful winners and respectable losers and to never take winning for granted. Winning and losing in sports is very important as well, If you don’t have a winner and a loser in a game the loser will never know what they are doing wrong and how to fix it.
