In an early childhood environment it is important to create a healthy environment for children. The role of educators is to model good health behaviors for children to prevent the spread of viruses. In my opinion, the early childhood professional must model good health behaviors for children so they learn health behaviors at a young age and make them part of their daily routine. For example, children could learn at a young age the importance of hand washing to prevent the spread of illness among their classmates. According to Cathie Robertson, “ One of the teacher’s most important tasks is to help children form the good hygiene habit and hand washing, to ensure a healthy environment” (Robertson, 2013, p. 443). Educators can make this task fun for children by making a song for hand washing, because some children learn faster when they are having fun. Also, it is important to give children immediate feedback after proper hand washing, so they feel motivated and will keep on doing it. As educators we need to wash hands often to we don’t pass illness to the children or from them to us. By doing this we are teaching the students that this is very important in order to stay healthy.
There are three different health behaviors that I might model for children and their families. I believe these behaviors are crucial to ensure a healthy environment for children. The first health behavior is to cover the mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing with a tissue or using the upper sleeve to stop the spread of germs that can make children sick. One step that I could take to help children to adopt this behavior is by having a box of tissues in the classroom all the time and every time a child coughs or sneezes I will hand over a tissue and ask him to cover his mouth and nose with it. I also will explain why it is important to do so. I will incorporate activities that teach children how to cover their mouth and nose if this happens to them. Also, I will talk about this with the families to ensure we work together towards the same goal.
The second health behavior that I will model for children and their families is the importance of washing hands.
This ensures that the practitioner takes necessary steps to protect a child and also promote their welfare. A practitioner will also need to promote good health of children and take appropriate action to prevent the spread of infection when a child is ill. Within the setting practitioners must work effectively to ensure that they manage the children’s behaviour effectively which is relevant to their age and stage of development.
The behaviorist and constructivist theories pose a significant debate in early childhood education that questions if curriculum should be based on the children’s natural childlike dispositions or should adults determine and decide every aspect of curriculum. The distinction between the two theories determine what and how young children learn. The behaviorist theory believes that people of all ages learn the same and that behavior is controlled by outside influences and rewards. Whereas, the constructivist theory believes young children develop cognitive structure based on interactions with other people and the environment. Better infection control practices and hand washing techniques utilized by the general population help to reduce the incidences of easily avoidable conditions, such as impetigo caused by staphylococcal and streptococcal infections. It may be beneficial for public health departments to recommend teachers to teach students on how to properly wash hands and clean high contact fomites.
It is evident throughout these research studies that the topic of hand hygiene is particularly relevant to nursing. Nursing has the most face-to-face, hands on interactions with patients. Since nurses come in contact with multiple patients numerous times a day it is crucial that nurses have competent knowledge regarding hand hygiene in order to prevent the spread of infections and diseases.
The focus of health care is and has always been, practicing good hygiene, living a healthy lifestyle, and having a positive attitude reduces the chance of getting ill. Although there is not much prevention we can take for some of the diseases but we can certainly practice good hand hygiene to prevent infection and its ill effects. Research proves that hand washing is surely the most easy and effective way to prevent infection in health care. The information presented during this course has increase my knowledge and experience about my role as an early childhood educator. The resources presented helped me to learn ways to promote healthy development and well-being of all children and how to be an advocate for them. I believe this class enriched my knowledge about infant-toddler care and education to the point that I would most like to express to others its importance. One thing that I would like to share is that infant–toddler care and education is crucial for physical and cognitive development. The caregiver/parent interaction is necessary for the children to keep alive the desire for communication and learning. I would like to express to others that we should keep in mind at all times that children are unique individuals that deserve care and respect. The caregiver should be a role model from day one, so the child will learn to copy her, and later on impart the same behavior to others. She should interact with the children to develop a relationship that will help the child to express feelings and emotions in a nice way. Also, I would like to express the importance of teamwork. Parents and caregivers need to work together in developing relationships to promote healthy development for children. According to Mary Benson McMullen and Susan Dixon, “ Each family and professional must learn to work and make decisions together to support the child’s healthy development and to ensure the family’s well-being” (McMullen & Dixon, 2006). In order to achieve wellness, teachers / caregivers must model and exhibit appropriate behaviors, i.e. exercise, healthy eating habits, personal hygiene, emotional fulfillment, and knowledge of healthy habits. Children begin learning this at home first with their parents / caregivers. Teachers are the next important person in a child’s life to help them achieve wellness (Sorte, et al., 2011). It is imperative for teachers and families to work together in order to achieve wellness for children. They must be role models and set examples for children.
The way the young, old, and infants look at things has been the subject of a number of studies for many years. These tendencies are referred to as visual preferences and in infants this study can be referred to as early visual perception. Though interest in the study of visual preferences has declined, significant progress has been made in this field. This study however has been very instrumental in helping scholars understand early childhood development issues. Among these issues is how visual preferences can help infants process the stimuli they come across. The issue of whether or not infants possess visual preference abilities after birth has also shown great interest among scholars. This paper seeks to cut through the arguments and delve into the factual evidence. The paper will consider how infants process as well as respond to visual stimuli in their environment. In addition, the paper seeks to establish how age and experience affects this process. These two factors will help correlate visual preference with cognition and perception in infants. The paper will mostly focus on how infants process stimuli with respect to visual preference.
In addition to vaccinating all employees, you should also promote good hygiene in the workplace, primarily by organizing comprehensive hand-washing campaigns. The importance of regular hand-washing cannot be overemphasized. Where sinks are unavailable, provide hand sanitizer wipes. Also, make sure all public spaces and communal areas are cleaned regularly.
As an early childhood educator my job is not to simple play with children. I must plan, provide and supervise all while “playing” with my students. The classroom serves as the physical environment for the children for most of their waking hours. These classrooms need to be attractive and function effectively. Concerns for any early childhood educator should always include space, equipment and materials used, outdoor space and the daily schedule to ensure that all students are provided ample opportunities to learn and grow within a safe and secure environment.
Clinical Orientation was the concept of the week. Knowing what’s the importance of Hand washing or hang hygiene and knowing how to execute it well was the topic during the simulation day. It is about preventing to chain of infection from nurses to patients, family, friends and to the public. So nurses having a knowledge on how to execute hand washing properly makes the nurse to be aware of their own hygiene and the nurse would be able to provide individualised hygiene care. (Crisp et all, 2013) Knowing your way around to the hospital and knowing hand hygiene was the main focus of the clinical orientation.

Why play is important to the holistic development of the child & your role as an educator to support the children?
There are many documented theories about early childhood development, contemporary research still concurs with some of these theories. It suggests, however, that we should be thinking more holistically, taking into consideration; respect for diversity, the wider community and equity, play based curriculums, intentional teaching and ongoing reflective practices when planning for optimal educational experiences for children (Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, 2009).
