The Importance of Compositional Tools in Art

In the society of media, in every image, photo, song, painting, sculpture, ect… there will always be a form of composition present. These compositional tools are added into media to add an overall aesthetic appeal to the artwork. In media in general, artists like their work of art to portray a certain feeling or representing a look. Artists use different techniques to make their artworks aesthetically appealing to the eye. These techniques are known as compositional tools, and those tools are one, two, and three point perspective, notan, Fibonacci sequence, golden ratio, shadow, relative size, ellipses, and lastly rule of thirds. Through these compositional tools, artists have the ability to put out their message and what they would want you to know. When composition is present in an artwork, elements and principles of design begin to appear.
Throughout the unit of composition, I have done a large amount of research on each compositional tool listed above. Along with these compositional tools, came along famous artists that were talented and specialized in a certain area/type of composition. Some of those artists include DeviantArt and Edward Munch, two very skilled artists that rose to fame due to their famous media created compositions. Through centuries and decades of building off the idea of composition, several artists took risks and began composing artworks that are one of the most valuable and expensive works of art today.

...ith the landscape that is blanketed in shadow and the darkness of the background. Past the main figure and onto the two figures walking, light is present indicating the sanity area of this painting. Through the use of shadows and hues of color, the essence of the figure’s emotions is shown.
In conclusion, throughout these two examples of compositionally based artworks, several elements and principles are shown and created. Ultimately, through the use of one, two, and three perspective, notan, Fibonacci sequence, rule of thirds, golden ratio, relative size, and shadow they contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of an artwork. To create a well based artwork, one should use the fundamental compositional tools to enhance the overall look of the artwork.
