Volunteers are selfless beings, who are vital participants in societies and give their time to helping individuals and the community at large. Volunteers work with others as a team to make a meaningful contribution to a better community. The VIP (Volunteers Interacting with Patients) program has a local and global relevance by promoting the involvement of people in the lives of communities and of a wider society through its projects and volunteering. This experience has instilled in me a stronger connection and awareness of people in my community, as well as, people in other societies. This semester I had the opportunity to work as a VIP volunteer at the CAMC General Hospital, where the VIP volunteer program originally started. Previously I have worked as a VIP volunteer at CAMC General Hospital during the summer of 2015, so I was familiar with what my duties were and what my expectations would be. I wanted to volunteer to learn and gain leadership and social skills as I interact with hospital staff and patients, and to contribute to my community and CAMC. I believe each person has …show more content…
I want to be a physician assistant in the near future, and part of being a good PA is having a good relationship with my community. My community has given a lot to me and I want to give back to my community. Part of what builds that good relationship is being active in the community, having human compassion, building trust, and learning how to interact with people of all socioeconomic backgrounds. This takes practice, and overtime, working as a volunteer has strengthened my professional and social skills, which will be beneficial to me as a PA in the future. Becoming more active in the community has also made me feel more passionate about service. Once I become a PA and after working in my community, I hope to go beyond that and provide my service and skills abroad to areas that are in
When I learned that one individual can only do so much while a group of passionate individuals can even move mountains, I took on the role of a shift leader to moderate volunteers and joined the emergency department to study a new environment the hospital offer. During that time, I trained numerous volunteers and assisted countless staffs in saving lives at an effective rate with quality services. Many volunteers I trained are continuing their ardent determination to thrive in the small volunteer room alongside with zealous
In the beginning of my senior year I was eager to expand my understanding of how it would be to work in a hospital. An opportunity arose allowing me to volunteer in the hospital at the University of Chicago. I was able to volunteer at the children's playroom, which consisted of a weekly commitment. The daily tasks I had to perform where to enlighten the spirits of children and reduce the amount of anxiety that developed within them when they approached a hospital visit. I would play games, read books, or just company the patients at their bedside. I especially love to interact with the younger patients because their laughter and innocence warms my heart up.
volunteering is a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. In this report i will talk about the different types of volunteering in the:
Volunteering can be gratifying and everyone should experience giving time to others without expecting anything in return. I have some history with The Excel Center in Kokomo, I am a recent graduate from there and have spent time tutoring when I can, to help other students succeed. After leaving there, I considered a future career within the walls of the school, I have even been told on numerous occasions that I am more than welcomed back after I finish my degree. Once I knew I had to volunteer in a human service field, I knew I wanted to give The Excel Center a shot right away, knowing this was a guaranteed place to be challenged and given an honest opinion of my work.
At the beginning of this volunteer experience, I walked in hopeful that I would gain some knowledge about the different careers that the medical field possesses, but I got so much more than that. I learned that community service is about making an impact in the lives of other members who share my community.
...epersonalized. Although not every patient is easy to deal with and doctors are under colossal pressure, by inspiring students with a possible future in the medical field to get involved with type of community service early we can ameliorate the distressing situation. Coming into contact with, speaking to, and intimately understanding these incredible individuals can dramatically alter one’s perspective and ensure treatment with self respect and dignity. I strongly believe in this notion of early involvement. My changed view coupled with my future medical training in college will allow me to be a figure to emulate and hopefully inspire others to follow this path. By embarking on this monumental journey mankind has the opportunity to shape history and enrich the lives of others while personally experiencing the most rewarding of all endeavors: helping someone in need.
My community service work at County Hospital is to care for the rudimentary needs of each patient. My goals are to provide inspiration during the healing process, teach kindness and compassion, and discover my own abilities for empathy. "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I'll try again to tomorrow (Mary Anne Radmacher)." My hope as a volunteer is to help each patient find that voice, find that courage to go forward.
Volunteering enables an individual to make a positive impact on his or her community, while empowering the individual to better his or her life. This summer, I had the opportunity to volunteer at many diverse locations. From the hospital to the local library, I truly value my experience and treasure everything it has thought me. Volunteering lets us experience and learn things that we otherwise would not have learned; volunteering opens doors for us that we may not have been able to open before. Volunteering provides us with guidance and tolerance which we may use in the future to aid us in our decisions. At first glance, volunteering may seem to only benefit those who are helped, but on a deeper level, one can realize that volunteering benefits the volunteer as much as, if not more than, those who are helped. Not only does volunteering make a difference in one’s community, but it also helps the volunteer become a smarter, happier, friendlier and more caring individual.
With my previous experience in assisting hospital employees in the care of patients and visitors, I plan to offer my skills to the training program given by the hospital to show incoming volunteers their tasks and responsibilities. Using what you have to help others is perhaps the most gratifying way to actively contribute to your community. Additionally, volunteering is a way in which I plan to give back to the community. I plan to reference to the local councils, who normally have a list of activities that need assistance. Whether it is building a garden, spending time at a local nursing home, or reading to children, every activity that you participate in makes a difference.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and hold millions of young people all through the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth are involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include; social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Without community service people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public. Community service is not a responsibly or an obligation; it is a commitment. A person must want to do it with good intentions and not because they are being forced to do so. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live.
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
“ Why should I be involved in my community?” is probably what most grade school children ask their parents when told to do some form of community work. Most kids don’t enjoy community no matter what it is unless they get something out of it. You should be involved in your community because it makes your community or school look nicer, You can have a say, It shows good leadership and that you care.
A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. There is a different side of volunteering though. Many volunteers donate their time to help better the community they live in and the people that live in it. When they choose to do this they not only help others but they are also helping better themselves. Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities.
Every person that volunteers wants to help our guests grow and succeed once they receive their needed identifications. Not only do I feel that I am helping others, but they are also helping me. Our guests have opened my eyes to what it means to be marginalized and to truly be strong, tough, and courageous. Not only are we blessed with wonderful guests each time I volunteer but the other volunteers have been wonderful to me too.
During this class I have accomplished many things when it has come to my learning. I have learned how to handle different situations and handle them differently; therefore relationships do not end poorly. I have learned how look at things from a different point of view and realize that not everyone goes through the same dilemmas everyone else goes through. With this class servicing learning has a whole different explanation to me. It use to mean donating your time and services to help someone in need. Now my definition is also that but with a little more added on. Service learning to me is volunteering to help the community, while volunteering people are learning new things which better their lives from experience. With having a new meaning
