Why you should be involved in your community “ Why should I be involved in my community?” is probably what most grade school children ask their parents when told to do some form of community work. Most kids don’t enjoy community no matter what it is unless they get something out of it. You should be involved in your community because it makes your community or school look nicer, You can have a say, It shows good leadership and that you care. First off, don’t you want your school or community look nice? Don’t you want it to be a safer place to live? When you clean up your school you are making it safer so your fellow students. If there is trash or spills you or them can slip or trip and get injured. Cleaning up your community makes it look beautiful. When it looks beautiful more people will move in and you will have more friends and the economy will be much better than before! So then why wouldn’t you want your school or community look nice and be safer? When someone is elected into office and you don’t like it why complain? There’s no point. I thought I was helping with sound but the leader noticed I always wanted to help lead in some way so she made me head or director of the whole stage crew and the show. I was shocked, nervous, but strangely overjoyed. It was very hard, I won’t lie, and yet it was easy. It felt so natural. Helping everyone find out what they had to do and making sure everything went smoothly was very fun. The day of the show made me so nervous but everyone was counting on me. Everyone knew how I felt and they liked the way I took lead and calmed me down. That was the best experience of my life and I'm still so thankful for
I will be a dance captain for the schools fall musical. Dance captain is like a job that I was assigned. I have certain expectations that I need to meet and have goals to complete daily. I have been built into the schedule so that I have times when people are working with me while the director is rehearsing other scenes. My duties include writing choreography for the show and also being able to learn every dance number and blocking so I can teach it to all of the cast members and be there for reference when needed.
All my life I have always wanted to feel that I was a part of something. However, I was not about to get up on the stage and make a fool of myself on stage. Therefore I joined stage crew for our fall play ¨The Odd Couple" during my sophomore year. This was a huge step for me, since I had never really been involved in something after school. Now, I secretly love everything about theatre and it is one of my true passions, but you will never find me reciting lines. Being able to work behind the scenes in theatre is one of my major interests
Being involved in school and community activities should not be a way to impress colleges or keep oneself busy to simply avoid boredom. Having a pure, unselfish need to help others in any way possible is the real reason anyone should be involved. Many times in life, people take what they have for granted. Cecilia Ahern said, “Time cannot be packaged and ribboned and left under trees for Christmas morning. Time can’t be given. But it can...
It’s a very rewarding feeling knowing you’ve helped someone who has been really struggling, and knowing that they trust you with their problems and that they know they can rely on you for assistance when they need it. Being involved with the musicals is some of the most fun i’ve had in my highschool career. I’ve always tried out for the highschool musical and always gotten a part, and just last year I helped the backstage crew of the middle school musical. Just being a part of it is what I like the most, being a single part in an entire production, and i’m the person who was best fit for that specific part. It makes me feel unique and different knowing that I was picked for that certain part. Last year I got my first actual lead as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard Of Oz. It had to have been the greatest experience of my life, I read my script any chance I could because I wanted to make this the best performance I have ever done, and I feel like I had
It is important for citizens to help out in their communities, because it helps make our nation a better place, and it also helps citizens get closer with the people in their community. Doing community service also helps people of all ages learn how to be more selfless, content, outgoing, and humble. A lot of people don't realize how many Americans live in poverty. In 2014, the percentage of Americans living in poverty was 14.8 percent of the population, which was 46.7 million people. By helping out in their communities, people can help lower that number and make the United States a better place to
I intend to give back to the community by combining knowledge obtained from the study of Psychology with the leadership skills I have gained by working in a tutorial program into a wide scale program for underprivileged school children of my community.
Now that my last musical has come and gone, I am whole-heartedly certain that the decision I made last year was the right one. I grew even more as a person, and realized that I can be a good leader if I deeply care about what I’m doing. Because of my decision, people looked up to me for guidance as I was able to become both a friend and a mentor to the people in stage crew. I made a lot of cherished memories through my days as stage crew manager that I probably would not have made if I didn’t take up the offer. I became more connected to the cast and directors like never before because of my role.
“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul motivated by love.”
My plan after college is to become a Sociologist or a Social Worker. With a college degree in one of these areas, I hope to impact my community in various ways. First, with the knowledge obtained from college, I hope to counsel with young people who are on the verge of going astray. In today's society, there are so many negative factors that influence young people. I want to help them understand the importance of setting goals and striving to become productive citizens. I also want to give them a sense of hope that with perseverance, they can become great role models for other young people.
What makes a person healthy? Surely, it is more than exercising and a proper diet. As a ten year-old girl, being healthy had one meaning to me; to eat all my vegetables and to be physically fit. I have chosen healthcare as a career because health does not only focus on the physical aspects of wellness, but it applies to all areas of wellness, such as, intellectual, social, spiritual, financial, occupational, environmental and emotional wellness.
Commitment to community is a requirement for contemporary Americans and vital to its survival. “Love thy neighbor as thyself” is the unselfish act of sharing: from a cup of sugar to a wealth of information to the guardianship of all children involved and the protection of every individual in that said community. Whether that community consists of the “Classic Neighborhood, those with a common set of goals, or those who share a common identity” the thread that holds this matrix together is always woven into the shared identity as well as responsibility of all involved. (Redmond, 2010). A community cannot continue to exist through the will of withdrawn individuals who arms only embrace themselves and have no involvement whatsoever with neighbors one door away.
However, community involvement can be interpreted differently by different people. It involves parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision making and collaboration with community. Community activities engage parents and family to meet the needs of the students whether in learning or social development. It is important to involve the community in learning since it play important role in student’s safety, perception of safety at school and its attendant impact on student’s
Community development/engagement is interest to me and is important because it increases the likelihood that projects or solutions will be widely accepted which means citizens(students, staff and teachers) who participate in these processes show significant commitment to help make the projects happen. It Creates more effective solutions, it draws on local knowledge from a diverse group which creates solutions that are practical and effective. It empowers and integrates people form all sorts of different backgrounds. Creates local networks of community members therefore the more people who know what is going on and who are willing to work towards a goal therefore the community is more likely to be successful in reaching their goals. It also
During this class I have accomplished many things when it has come to my learning. I have learned how to handle different situations and handle them differently; therefore relationships do not end poorly. I have learned how look at things from a different point of view and realize that not everyone goes through the same dilemmas everyone else goes through. With this class servicing learning has a whole different explanation to me. It use to mean donating your time and services to help someone in need. Now my definition is also that but with a little more added on. Service learning to me is volunteering to help the community, while volunteering people are learning new things which better their lives from experience. With having a new meaning
Oakley and Marsden (1987) defined community participation as the process whereby individuals, families, and communities take responsibility for their own welfare and develop a capacity to contribute to their own and the community’s development. In the context of development, community participation refers to a process whereby the direction and execution of development projects are influenced by the beneficiaries rather than simply receive a share of the project benefits (Paul, in Bamberger, 1986). In addition, the concept of community participation is viewed as a basis for project success. The World Bank (2004) defines participation as “a process through which stakeholders “influence and share control over development initiatives, and resources and the decisionswhich affect them”.
