Winston Churchill once stated that “we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Giving back to the community is of great importance, for it not only expresses the kind of people we are, but it also unconsciously shapes us into who we want to become. Presenting ourselves voluntarily without expecting any compensation, shows our capacity and intellectuality as human beings. Additionally, simple acts of benevolence such as the one we label as inconsequential, play a crucial role in the community. As a matter of fact, volunteering is a way to strengthen communities, bring people together, and provide people with valuable experience and insight of their future. There are not enough words that describe the significance of …show more content…
With my previous experience in assisting hospital employees in the care of patients and visitors, I plan to offer my skills to the training program given by the hospital to show incoming volunteers their tasks and responsibilities. Using what you have to help others is perhaps the most gratifying way to actively contribute to your community. Additionally, volunteering is a way in which I plan to give back to the community. I plan to reference to the local councils, who normally have a list of activities that need assistance. Whether it is building a garden, spending time at a local nursing home, or reading to children, every activity that you participate in makes a difference. Volunteering is so much more than a way to benefit oneself; it is a social activity in which one gains valuable skills. Finally, the easiest and most simplest way that one can contribute to the community is by donating. Donations do not have to be necessarily financial, they can be personal hygiene items, clothing, and even food. With this said, I plan to donate to my community every time that I am presented with the opportunity to do
In the beginning of my senior year I was eager to expand my understanding of how it would be to work in a hospital. An opportunity arose allowing me to volunteer in the hospital at the University of Chicago. I was able to volunteer at the children's playroom, which consisted of a weekly commitment. The daily tasks I had to perform where to enlighten the spirits of children and reduce the amount of anxiety that developed within them when they approached a hospital visit. I would play games, read books, or just company the patients at their bedside. I especially love to interact with the younger patients because their laughter and innocence warms my heart up.
Growing up, my parents and other influential figures around me modelled the importance of community service through their continual volunteer work and dedication to improving the world around them. Whether it be participation in a well-attended project or persistent contribution to a helpful organization, those aforementioned individuals were formative in guiding me towards a path filled with opportunities for having an impact on my community.
Why I want to volunteer I am directionless. Lost in a sea of people; people who all seem to know what they want to do with their lives. Volunteering can help me find a direction, a path that I want to be on. Assisting patients and workers provides more information on working in a hospital than any course or the internet can provide.
At the beginning of this volunteer experience, I walked in hopeful that I would gain some knowledge about the different careers that the medical field possesses, but I got so much more than that. I learned that community service is about making an impact in the lives of other members who share my community.
Kim, in the United States, grades are not the only factor in evaluating school applicants and job candidates. From Rhodes Scholar selections to college applications, excellence in other areas such as leadership, volunteer activities, sports and arts is equally important (p82-90). In American schools, students are encouraged to do volunteer work. So much so that many schools have guidelines for how much time students are expected to spend serving in the community. Children learn the value of giving from an early age. Volunteer activities is one way Americans feel a part of things and share the goal of serving and contributing to build their communities. From neighborhood watch programs to environmental issues, Americans do not wait for the government to initiate action: they take action to bring about the changes they desire. Therefore, Americans view volunteer work as a way to teach children and young adults values such as cooperation and teamwork, dedication and work ethics, equality and social justice, leadership, generosity and compassion for
Every summer, I volunteer at Valley Baptist Medical Center for 60 hours or more because I believe it is my duty to give back to the hospital and community that I was born and raised in. Providing a hand to those who are treating patients that are ill is what I live for. In addition to this, every Thanksgiving, I volunteer in a community event known as “H-E-B Feast of Sharing” in which I and many volunteers prepare and serve meals to the low-income and homeless citizens who can not afford to prepare a meal for Thanksgiving. Although it is a holiday that I celebrate myself, I believe it is my duty as an individual to put others first before myself, which have taught me the values of generosity and selflessness.
When a person contributes to their community, they gain more than a just a sense of accomplishment. The experience a person gets in return from helping the community is invaluable. It is a mutually beneficial experience. A person who helps those in need gains knowledge and experience that can help them in future endeavors.
My community service work at County Hospital is to care for the rudimentary needs of each patient. My goals are to provide inspiration during the healing process, teach kindness and compassion, and discover my own abilities for empathy. "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I'll try again to tomorrow (Mary Anne Radmacher)." My hope as a volunteer is to help each patient find that voice, find that courage to go forward.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
By volunteering at these areas of healthcare, I have developed two valuable skills: responsibility and commitment. After becoming a volunteer, I quickly realized the importance of being a mature and responsible worker when in a healthcare setting. Exposure to situations in which I was in charge of the safety of patients allowed me to appreciate my responsibilities as a volunteer. Volunteering in areas of healthcare also allowed me to become committed to my work as a volunteer which in turn motivated me to put forth my best work and become a phenomenal volunteer. If accepted for this position, I fully intend to put these strengths to use and I believe that they will be a great addition to your already existing team due to my strong commitment to this
Volunteering in your local community is great way to give back and set a positive example at the same time. Let’s take a look at some of the problems in our community that affect many people.
Introduction. Giving back to the community is a way of appreciation and practice that will not only benefit the community but also the business itself. Local businesses that give back to the community develops a good rapport or friendship with the members of the community. Another important thing you should know is that giving back to the community is not just writing a cheque. For you to benefit you need to indulge yourself in community development projects and show your support by either use of money or material resources.
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. There is a different side of volunteering though. Many volunteers donate their time to help better the community they live in and the people that live in it. When they choose to do this they not only help others but they are also helping better themselves. Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities.
