Transformative leadership, as its name indicates, means an absolute change in the very definition and application of traditional leadership. The study and practice of transformative leadership is, above all things, necessary for the future of education. Transformative leadership is valuable in that our education systems needs a complete and total transformation so we will not continue to provide a disservice to our students and future generations and leaders of the world. As with any type of transformation and change, it must begin with those willing to sacrifice and work for change, those dedicated to the betterment of a specific situation, idea or cause. We need to experience an Educational Great Awakening, bringing about an enlightenment …show more content…
Specifically, how appropriately utilizing technology in the classroom can close achievement gaps, promote more individualized learning and engage students who might otherwise quickly lose interest in classroom activities. My leadership roles are teaching me that it takes more than one person to make a difference, it takes a collaborative effort from all those involved. However, I am also learning that it only takes one person, dedicated to making a difference, to start a transformative change in the way learning and teaching are presented. When dealing specifically with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and interests in regards to technology in the classroom, one must focus on questions such as availability, student engagement, success rate and overall achievements gained due to technology integration. In addition, thought must be given to willingness of educators to change their mode of thinking in regards to student’s background versus achievement and …show more content…
Personally, I have a great deal of experience in working with economically disadvantaged students and adults, a large number of whom are English Language Learners (ELLs). Due to these factors, I have seen first hand the lack of support given to these types of learners due to stereotypes, bias and ultimately lack of resources and funding. These factors largely contribute to the enormous achievement gaps among students. My background and experiences have made me determined to facilitate a change in the way of thinking in terms of these students. We must strive to give them every tool necessary for their success. Bias and stereotypes must be abolished and replaced with equal opportunity for all students regardless of diversity of backgrounds. Technology must have a more pronounced place in education; its benefits far outweigh its weaknesses. In addition to supplementing and classroom instruction, technology serves as a way to continuously assess and monitor students, allowing for appropriate intervention procedures. Teachers can use data from computer‐based curriculum to identify areas of weakness and work one‐on‐ one with the students who need it most. Data‐driven instruction means that teachers focus intervention in the areas it will do the most good (Clark, 1983). It is because of this that I desire to complete an EdD in Transformative Leadership, so that I may be in
The concept of transformational leadership relies on appropriate leadership approaches for mission success. AFDD 1-1 describes three leadership competencies: person, people/team, organization Effective leaders (tactical level) need to build face-to-face and interpersonal relationships that directly influence behavior and values. Effective leaders (operational level) need to build team dynamics for small groups and squadrons. Effective leaders (strategic level) need to build strategy and provide direction in a broad spectrum.
In this paper, I will inform you about issues in globalization, power, followership and cultural change in the perspective of a health leader. I will identify three major health issues that are global but has the potential to affect the United States health care system. I will describe these global health issues influence health leaders. I will relate global leadership with transformational leadership. I will illuminate three elements of cultural and diversity within health care organizations. You will find a table of cultural attributes to be made aware of. I will categorize the differences in global leadership according to power, technology, and knowledge management and will explain two leadership approaches for implementing change.
Transformational leadership can be defined as causing a change in individual and social system. Besides, transformational leaders usually connect follower’s aspirational with the organizational goal and persuade the followers to achieve the organizational goals to satisfy themselves (Tauber, 2012).
Leadership is described as the behavior of an individual when directing the activity of a group towards a common goal (Al- Sawai, 2013). Healthcare system involves multiple related, interconnected relations with other departments and health care professionals from various cultural backgrounds; therefore, the understanding of individuals’ behavior and group dynamics within the healthcare organization is imperative for a leader and or organization to be successful (Bukowski, 2009). A transformative leader has the attributes that are necessary for twenty- first century leader to have to be an effective leader in a changing nursing service organization and the healthcare system. A transformative leader is a type of leader that collaborates, encourages, and motivates people adapt to changes with charisma (University of Kent, n.d). Study shows that some leaders fail because of
Analysis of Issues After the interview with Ms. Howland, it was realized that this is not an ordinary leader. Although her function does require her to demonstrate elements of transactional leadership during the conduct of an average day in her work environment, it became obvious that there was more to her leadership style. Ms. Howland demonstrated the use of transformational leadership as a way of motivating and inspiring her team and those around her. Throughout her nine years at Crescent Point Energy, Ms. Howland has been the driving force behind many changes during the company’s evolution from a small to intermediate player in the conventional oil and gas sector. From her position within the Accounting Department, the company’s growth and her vision for the future was used to gather resources and sell a vision to upper management as well as her peers and subordinates within the corporation.

According to Yoder-Wise (2015), a leader can be defined as, “an individual who works with others to develop a clear vision of the preferred future and to make that vision happen” (p 35). As employees, we often have our own ideal of a good leader, which may be influenced by experiences and perception of workplace norms. While one’s opinion of an effective leader may vary, there are several recognized leadership theories. The following will focus on the transformational leadership approach.
Transformational leadership is one of the most popular leadership styles. According to Kendrick (2011), “Transformational leadership involves four factors: 1. idealized influence, 2. inspirational motivation, 3. intellectual stimulation, and 4. individual consideration.” These four factors make transformational leadership have an impact on followers. The goal of transformational leadership is to cause a positive change in individuals, help motivate them, and develop a leader within each individual.
Teachers have always played one of the most important roles in schools and in the educational histories of most students. One of the greatest challenges facing education systems is implementing the changes that would increase student learning. In this paper, I seek to investigate the traditional views of school reform by redefining the roles teachers can play in school change and thus, increasing student’s learnings outcome.
Transformational leadership focuses on what the leader can accomplish instead of his personal characteristics and how his relationship with others. This leader “helps to bring about major, positive changes by moving group members beyond their self-interests and toward the good of the group, organization, or society (Dubrin, 2007, p. 84). The essence of this leader is to develop and transform people.
I would like to believe that transformative education is all around us, we draw inspiration from what we hear, think, see and feel. Transformative education may happen at work, school or home, it's what happens at that moment that moves us to better ourselves and the ones around us intellectually. "Stay a little" (Frank Bruni) College's Priceless Value: Higher Education, Liberal Arts and Shakespeare. This quote is the beginning of Bruni's transformation, taken from King Lear's plea to his daughter Cordelia. He goes on to say "It transformed all my reading from then on". It was at this moment while in a classroom that Bruni was transformed by this quote read out loud by Anne Hall that would forever change him. Most often times it's not the big moments in life but the small ones that help to mold and define who we are and what we believe in. Some of us are born already knowing what path and purpose we will follow while others seek for rhyme and reason that will elevate them to where they want to be. I am one such person, education has been a journey for me, one that I hope has a pleasant and successful ending.
As facilitators of learning, our classrooms are filled with students who are comprised of generation X’ers and Millenial’s. We must be conscious to structure our lessons and approaches so that we can present content in the most effective manner. Technology, in regards to principles of teaching, challenges the teacher to not only learn what the technology is all about, but to learn to integrate it effectively within the context of their individual classrooms. Teachers in classrooms across the nation struggle with computer technology, the many features, and the never-ending cycle of new devices that are bought into their classrooms daily. Because of the lack of training and severe levels of discomfort, teachers have developed a negative disposition towards the use of technology when it applying it to principle. Recognizing the noted factors, it can be resolved that we do live in an interactive world. Our job is to effectively integrate the technology in such a way that it supports, guides, and enhances learning for all parties involved.
Education is a very important aspect in the life of a child. The level of success a student has in the classroom is greatly influenced by their teachers. Students, as well as their parents, depend on the teachers to guide them through their education. But who guides a teacher to perform successfully in the classroom? Principals and teachers play an important role in schools. A good relationship among school leaders and teachers is necessary and play an important role in making improvements in the school. Leadership refers to the “process in which one person successfully exerts influence over others to reach desired objectives”. (Okoji, 2015) Good leadership involves honesty, vision, confidence and commitment. It is the ability to inspire a
students prefer technology because they believe that it makes learning more interesting and fun. They especially like laptops and tablets. Subjects that students deem challenging or boring can become more interesting with virtual lessons, through a video, or when using a tablet. Technology occupies an important place within students’ lives. When they are not in school, just about everything that they do is connected in some way to technology. By integrating technology into the classroom, teachers are changing the way they used to teach (lectures six hours a day) and providing students with the tools that will take them into the 21st century. One of the characteristics of the modern classroom is collaboration and technology helps to empower it. With classroom technology students can collaborate with other students and their teachers in and outside of the classroom quickly and easily.
