Based of the information gathered during my research about my areas of interest, I decided to do the informational interview with one of the workers in the Region of Peel organization; her name is Lisa Hartley and she is the Analyst Supervisor in the Human Services department. I had the privilege of doing this informational interview with her through my supervisor, as she told me that she is the ideal candidate to give me the necessary information required this assignment, which will also be beneficial towards securing employment at the Region of Peel.
We started off the interview by doing proper introduction and then I thanked her coming giving me the opportunity to interview her. After that, we then proceeded to the interview questions; we went through the first to the last interview questions and the employee gave comprehensive answers to the questions. During this interview, I chose to ask some additional questions first, as I feel it will support the rest of the questions that needed to be asked in this assignment. I asked the employee if the organization hires SSWs she answered yes, the region hires SSWs, SW and Social Services related field with psychology background. The second question I asked her was what title/roles do they secure. She answered that they title/roles they secure are caseworker, community support worker,

With this beautiful experience with Lisa Hartley, I have decided to do more informational interviews in the future with the agencies I am interest in securing employment at. This employee created a positive and welcoming environment for me and asked me to feel free to contact her for any future
The fact that it was a phone conversation made it even more difficult because I barely had time to prepare to take notes and that put a damper on the excitement I had for the interview. It made me feel like she didn’t have time for me or, even more so, that she was too busy talking to people who don’t influence her work. I at least expected them to have the same topics of importance. It is obvious that Elk Grove Village cares about its industrial and business sector and is trying to maintain it, but their justifications and reasoning for its importance are different. To the Trustee, it is for the benefit of the residents.
...it gave me the opportunity to see what was out there in terms of HR staffing. I think that when people think of HR they think of a cubical at an office remotely placed somewhere. This is not the case. HR has many settings whether it is the corner store or the corporate office. Through this exercise I saw firsthand what HR was all about. It is about setting the example and staying motivated for the staff. I also discovered that money is not everything. In any job the money can’t be everything, you have to find rewards through other avenues; avenues such watching employees move up or customers leaving with a smile. HR gives you great flexibility and has many different settings to work in. I choose to interview a store manager because I am hoping to get to that position in the near future. This was a great experience for me and I learned a lot through this activity.
For my informational interview I spoke with a nurse who has experience working on a medical surgical unit in a hospital setting. She has been a nurse for 10 years. She also has her bachelors degree in nursing. I started my interview by introducing myself and explaining what my assignment was about, and how she could help me tremendously with answering some questions regarding her nursing career, and what she does as a medical surgical nurse.
The purpose of this interview is to explore human service professional in their work environment, and observe human service professional in their particular settings, what type of education is required for their position of choice. The human services profession has a variety of populations that they serve; this is a wide array of people. Human service professionals serve populations such as, high-risk mothers who may have shortfalls in education, psychosocial, nutritional, and little or no transportation. Another is the homeless population, lack housing due to being unable to afford, or maintain safe and adequate housing. The elderly is a population that is increasing, there needs range from chronic illness, lack of or little education, mentally, financial, loss of independence, and stereotyping. They serve those diagnose with a chronic illnesses, such illnesses may be diagnoses of , high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, there is also the chronic mentally ill who are consider high risk, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD(attention deficit hyperactive disorder). These are just a few of the services that a human service professional may work with.
I applied and was accepted to a DWEN conference where I learned about entrepreneurship and pitched a business idea to the DWEN employees after brainstorming with a group of four other women. DWEN is just one example of the educational opportunities I have been exposed to through the Girl

Interviewing and research skills are needed within the social work profession. Effective communication skills are one of the most crucial components of a social worker’s job. Every day, social workers must communicate with clients to gain information, convey critical information and make important decisions (Zeiger, 2017). This interview experience was an opportunity to explore the daily challenges and rewards of a licensed social worker. I was excited for the opportunity to interview a social worker in the gerontology sector as this is a specialty I am considering. This meeting allowed me to explore the educational steps of being a social worker, practices of the agency, the clients who are served, and the challenges the agency has.
I chose to interview Regina Geis, who holds the administrative role as acting supervisor for the County Mental Health adult day program, which provides services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Ms. Geis has held this position for 15 months. This is her first managerial position within a human service agency. Her style of management has changed over this short period of time. She feels that she is now more direct with her direction with staff. She stated, “Maybe now I come across as a little bit cold. But I have learned that I now have to use the least amount of words to get my point across.”
I chose to interview Mrs. Mary, Mrs. Jen, and Ms. Katonda because they all have experience with working in the hospital and that is the setting that I am looking to work in. I have also thought about becoming a college educator for physical therapy students and Mrs. Jen and Mrs. Mary are currently working as nursing lab staff, but they also work with the physical therapy staff throughout the semester.
Today’s skills session on social work interviewing skills covered the uniqueness of social work interviewing in comparison to interviews conducted in professions such as the police, doctors, employers, etc. It covered also different types of questioning and how to paraphrase. Another area covered was, what to avoid when interviewing a service user and the use of silence. I leant that interview skills are fundamental in social work and social work interviewing is unique. Social workers empathize with clients because of their knowledge of the client group and the need of help to alleviate their problems. Empathy however does not equate accepting that the client is right in what they have done or that the social worker is condoning their actions. Empathy relates to the issue of ‘trusting’ and ‘believing’ the client. In as much as a social worker should seek to establish trust in the relationship, this does not necessarily mean they should believe

This week was very exciting in terms of my informational interviews and being able to work security at a music event. The informational interviews not only helped being the classroom to the real world but also provided me with real examples to better strengthen the connection. I also learned a lot in terms of dealing with the public in a busy environment and how to most successfully defuse a situation in which alcohol and attitudes are involved.

First, I asked her to explain her educational background. She has an Undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice. Next, I asked her if she had a graduate degree. She explained that she has a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology. Later, I asked her if she could explain why she decided to get a degree in Forensic Psychology. She explained that she really enjoyed learning more about the mind and being able to apply that knowledge to Forensics. Then, I asked her what is the name of her current position. She told me that she is currently a senior agent for parole and probation. I asked her how long as she held the current position. She mentioned that she has been holding that position for 4 years. I then asked her to explain her responsibilities and duties as a senior agent for parole and probation. She told me that her duties include effective community supervision of offenders placed on probation/parole this supervision process includes office and field contacts, court appearances, treatment referrals, drug testings, warrant and processing services, financial collection management, interviewing, counseling and investigation when required. Next, I asked her what is her what does she like the most about her job. She let me know that the thing that she likes most is the aspect of Public Safety. In addition, I asked what she dislikes about her job. She explained that one thing she dislikes is that as a probation agent, she is not
