THE STUDENT’S IDENTITY MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN ACADEMIC LEARNING. Nowadays education system has applied a widespread curricula, it does not focus in the real context, and students’ necessities consequently, we have students that only follow paths without own thinking or active and creative knowledge. Thus, I believe that the best and real learning opportunity is when teachers create a wide difference in academic learning such as the quality of education, centered on the student’s identity thus, the present work focuses on the student’s identity makes a difference in academic learning because there is a strong connection between identity and academic learning.

Do I have the identical students? Are students identical? What influences student’s identity? In order to solve some doubts, the author reviewed some literature: “Identity: who a person is, or the qualities of a person or group that make them different from others” (Cambridge, s.f.) According to this definition, students have individual differences and each one is a world, everyone has a different reality, living in a different time, and place. “You have to make that social and emotional connection with kids in order to get inside their heads. The fact that you care makes them see you differently”. (Douglas, 2000) Therefore, student’s identity is an important aspect to identify why our students have difficulties in the teaching-learning process (academic dimension) ; with other words, teachers with a wide expectation of teaching- learning process use effective – strategies (student’s identity )to create a good environment inside a classroom that helps their students becoming a self- directed learner, but without forgetting that inside this process should mediate four fundamental axes: students, teachers, parents, and community members in order to solve difficulties in teaching learning
Before beginning the explanation of how an identity is formed, one must understand what an identity is. So, what is identity? To answer this, one might think of what gives him individuality; what makes him unique; what makes up his personality. Identity is who one is. Identity is a factor that tells what one wants out of life and how he is set to get it. It tells what kind of a person one is by the attitude and persona he has. And it depends upon the mixture of all parts of one’s life including personal choices and cultural and societal influences, but personal choices affect the identity of one more than the others.
Identity is a group of characteristics, data or information that belongs exactly to one person or a group of people and that make it possible to establish differences between them. The consciousness that people have about themselves is part of their identity as well as what makes them unique. According to psychologists, identity is a consistent definition of one’s self as a unique individual, in terms of role, attitudes, beliefs and aspirations. Identity tries to define who people are, what they are, where they go or what they want to be or to do. Identity could depend on self-knowledge, self-esteem, or the ability of individuals to achieve their goals. Through self-analysis people can define who they are and who the people around them are. The most interesting point about identity is that some people know what they want and who they are, while it takes forever for others to figure out the factors mentioned before. Many of the individuals analyzed in this essay are confused about the different possible roles or positions they can adopt, and that’s exactly the reason they look for some professional help.
Human development is a highly complex lifelong process. Identity is a self-definition or sense of who one is, where one is going, and how one fits into society. It relates to our basic values that dictates the choices we make in life. It is considered that identity formation is a means of finding oneself, by matching one’s talent with available social roles. Crisis is a vital part in one’s development. It occurs in every stage of finding one’s self and without resolution, may lead to tension and role confusion. Dedicated and influential theorists such as Erik Erikson and James Marcia have contributed significantly to the broadening and understanding
In this paper I will present the numerous theories built around the process of establishing one’s identity and provide examples of how this identity shapes a students involvement and actions while in school. I will also reflect on the importance for systems that foster identity formation that is equal for both inner-city and suburban children. It is crucial to the success of America’s schools to understand that a mixture of cultures creates a mixture of identi...
In this assignment I am going to cover the aspects of my learner identity by referencing to relevant texts and ideas. A learner identity is the way in which an individual processes and makes sense of educational information and here are my thoughts on my learner identity.
Many philosophers and psychologist from Jean Piaget to William James have theorized what makes a person who they are, their identity. Jean Piaget believed that the identity is formed in the sensorimotor stage and the preoperational stage. This means that a child is forming his identity as late to the age of seven (Schellenberg, 29) However, identity is strongly impacted by society such as school, church, government, and other institutions. Through our interactions with different situations our personality develops (Schellenberg 34). "In most situations there is a more diversified opportunity for the development of social identities, reflecting what the individual wants to put forth to define the self as well as what others want to accept,"(Schellenberg 35). Therefore, humans, much like animals, adapt to different situations based on who they are with. Individuals are always changi...
1. The identity theory (reductive materialism) states that mental states are brain states. Basically each mental state/process is the same as the physical state or process(es) within the brain. What they say about the mind is that the mind is just the brain and mental states are brain states.
The identity theory of mind holds that states and processes of the mind are identical to states and processes of the brain thus particular psychological states are identical with particular type of physical state. Many objections have been lay out by philosophers who have evaluated this theory one objection that is particularly strong is the Martian and octopus criticism which state that if identity theory is true, than these species should not feel pain, but if they do feel pain than identity theory is not true.
Identity. What is identity? One will say that it is the distinct personality of an individual. Others will say that identity is the behavior of a person in response to their surrounding environment. I believe that I fall under the status of identity achievement. In reflecting upon my life, I feel that I had set a course for myself and accomplished many of my goals. I wouldn’t say that I explored many alternatives early on. My parents raised me as a Catholic and I have not strayed away from my faith nor searched for alternatives. From an early age, I wanted to be an elementary school teacher, get married and have children. Those goals were accomplished but not without set-backs along the way. I graduated college with a BA in Elementary Education, got married and had a child. However, not everything went as planned. I taught for several years but then decided to explore other avenues thinking that if I did, that I would be satisfied after
Does the student’s identity is only student? Absolutely not, identity make people different with others, student identity may be the majority characteristic, while their have many other groups that we could belong to, some of which are easily to see from appearance, some are inside our mind that even ourselves could not notice. And they are not constant, like our taste on food changes in different stage of our lives. Sometimes our identities changes because of the change in one main identity like my student identity transformed from high school student to university students, which changed my other identities less or more during the first year in college.
Identity is the essence of a person which makes him stand out as an individual. There are various factors which help form and evolve a person's persona, and that is what I write about in the follwing essay.
Self-identity is one of the main themes of philosophy throughout its history. In general, “self-identity” is a term that means thoughts or feelings with which you distinguish you from others, and we use the term in ordinary conversation without a solid concept of “self-identity”. However, arguing about self-identity philosophically, there arise many questions: whether there is any essence of yourself, whether you are the same person as you when you were a baby, whether memory or experience makes you, and what is “self-identity.” To solve these questions, many philosophers have been arguing the topic “self identity” for so long.
