In this assignment I am going to cover the aspects of my learner identity by referencing to relevant texts and ideas. A learner identity is the way in which an individual processes and makes sense of educational information and here are my thoughts on my learner identity.
Claxton (2002) suggest that there are four aspects which are associated with an individual 's learning known as the 4 R 's; resilience, resourcefulness, reflectiveness and reciprocity. I think that the 4 R 's are very important to my learner identity in several different ways. Firstly, I find myself to be very resilient; I seem to persevere even throughout times where I might feel like giving up. I always take a break and go back to tasks when I am in a better mindset. I can think back to times where I managed to complete tasks despite believing I would not be able to, which helps me overcome barriers in my learning as well as allowing me to become more resilient in other activities. I find it easier expressing myself through words and understanding other individual 's thoughts and actions through speech and writing. By studying a piece of text I am able to retrieve a lot of relevant information from it, I find this an easy way to learn because I reflect back by making notes so I am able to look back on notes for situations such as assignments and revision for exams. This is why I find reading techniques such as skim and scan reading difficult because I need to read a piece of text, highlight the important information and make notes to ensure that I have gained a good understanding. I could possibly improve an approach for my reading by looking at step by step guides to skim and scan reading online. This could help for large amounts of reading which I have to read quickly in seminars and lectures and to draw only the important information
Before beginning the explanation of how an identity is formed, one must understand what an identity is. So, what is identity? To answer this, one might think of what gives him individuality; what makes him unique; what makes up his personality. Identity is who one is. Identity is a factor that tells what one wants out of life and how he is set to get it. It tells what kind of a person one is by the attitude and persona he has. And it depends upon the mixture of all parts of one’s life including personal choices and cultural and societal influences, but personal choices affect the identity of one more than the others.
Identity is a group of characteristics, data or information that belongs exactly to one person or a group of people and that make it possible to establish differences between them. The consciousness that people have about themselves is part of their identity as well as what makes them unique. According to psychologists, identity is a consistent definition of one’s self as a unique individual, in terms of role, attitudes, beliefs and aspirations. Identity tries to define who people are, what they are, where they go or what they want to be or to do. Identity could depend on self-knowledge, self-esteem, or the ability of individuals to achieve their goals. Through self-analysis people can define who they are and who the people around them are. The most interesting point about identity is that some people know what they want and who they are, while it takes forever for others to figure out the factors mentioned before. Many of the individuals analyzed in this essay are confused about the different possible roles or positions they can adopt, and that’s exactly the reason they look for some professional help.

The doctrine of self identity is one that has throughout history been a way for people to identify who they were in relation to other individuals and society as a whole. To take into account how an individual’s identity is shaped, it is imperative to know it through the context of oneself and of society. This will not only provide a more holistic approach to understanding how self identity is shaped, but also how it relates to race. Nikki Giovanni’s poem “Nikki-Rosa” and Zora Neale Hurston’s “How It Feels to Be Colored Me,” reflect on the idea of racial self identity through harsh critiques from societal and internal pressures seeking to label and categorize people on the basis of race.
Identity, an ambiguous idea, plays an important part in today’s world. To me identity can be defined as who a person is or what differentiates one person from another. Identity would be a person’s name, age, height, ethnicity, personality, and more. A quote by Anne Sexton states “It doesn't matter who my father was; it matters who I remember he was”(Anne Sexton). This quote helps me define identity because I believe it is saying that identity is what people are remembered by. When thinking about Identity, it might be easy to just say that is “who we are”, or it’s just me. An identity is much more than that though. I like to think of it as a living puzzle. There are hundreds or thousands of pieces that come together to form the complete identity, or the complete “you”. An individual’s identity represents who he or she truly is; it is something that allows a specific person to stand out from the crowd. During an individual’s life, he or she will come across many obstacles that will shape her or his being and will further shape her or him into someone with particular traits, or an identity. During my life, I grew up with six older siblings who each had voices and opinions quite different than mine. Although I felt different from everyone else, there was always one person who I related to, my grandmother. All throughout the years of growing up and going through changes, I always seemed to be filled with encouraging words of wisdom from my grandmother, and, most importantly, she was very accepting of the paths I had chosen to follow despite the fact that they were different from my family’s paths. Throughout the book The Norton Mix, which is an anthology of different texts, many aspects of identity are explored. The selection that I believe relates to me the most in this book is “Professions for Women” by Virginia Woolf, a 1931 speech about Woolf's work as a writer. Another text that I believe presents many characters with different identity aspects is the novel Hairstyles of the Damned, by Joe Meno; the novel is about a teenage boy searching for his identity. It is believed that the worth of a student’s education relies on experience and curricula outside of the classroom, as well as academics. Experience and curricula foster growth which in turn leads to developing the student as a “whole.” Understanding how students from many different backgrounds develop is the key to establishing effective programs and policies that with promote positive student growth. Development can be influenced by things such as race, ethnicity, gender and sexual identity, social class, disability, and faith and spirituality. However, a large part of development lies within psychosocial, ethical, and moral development. The primary goal of development for college students can be found in the development of self-authorship.
Identity, the idea of being who or what a person or thing is. From the time we are born, we are given identities that we can’t change. As soon as we exit the womb and enter the world we are cleaned up and given either a blue or pink hat and matching blanket. The colors blue and pink are identified by gender, so if one births a baby girl she will be identified with the pink hat and vice versa. Then we get a gender based name and when the baby goes home, everything they receive is based on what gender the baby is and it seems like there is no in between. As a baby one can’t help nor does one care about the way people identify them. As one gets older, we test the lines of identity.

The perception of identity has changed due to the growing human population, and being able to distinguish oneself from the general population. Identity is the uniqueness of a person. As people get older, their identity might change since they become more aware of the society and also are more independent. By creating and recognizing an identity, one can interact with others who have a similar identity. Identity can be formed socially. There are several factors that influence an identity.
In the modern society, the concept of identity is gaining much attention from both scientists and the wide public.
