In every society in this world, there are certain ways of being that are only acceptable to the people part of such community. These ways of life are called social norms, which change spontaneously as time goes on. Social norms are greatly influenced by individual people, organizations, and how successful they are at showcasing themselves to the public eye. The social media, government politicians, and celebrities, hold the greatest and most influential impacts on social norms in society. Take, for example, the most recent government election. Social Networking sites and News Channels were buzzing with constant day to day gossip and photos either supporting or degrading the Republican or Democratic Party. Advertisement, however, does not limit itself to strictly politics. Celebrities and big organizations take advantage of showcasing opportunities in order to draw the attention of the public and hypnotize them in believing they should act of think in a certain way. In addition, geographical barriers that create distance between countries have a tendency to alter how people behave and react to certain situations. More conspicuously, an action that may be agreeable on one side of the world can be viewed as disagreeable on the other. Communism is a prime example of such, along with mass genocides and extreme social hierarchy. Ultimately, the more power that an individual or body possesses, the more control and capability they have to substantially influence the people around them. Social media and networking are two of the greatest ways to influence the views and beliefs of a society. Being that it is a prime communication center for millions of people worldwide, the power of social media is incredible. Making people want to act or look a certain way, or brainwashing people on how they should think or what to believe in, can all stem out into the hands of the social media and the wealthy people that run it. These bodies may never truly understand the affects they have on people, and how they are constantly altering the way people view themselves. Even though many adjustments made call for better social norms, many do not, and result in disastrous outcomes. Overall, social norms are derived strictly from the most popular and well-liked places, so there will most likely never be one general social norm. The only way this would ever come to be, is if everyone in the world agreed on the same look, the same beliefs, and the same ways of life, but the chances of that ever coming even slightly close to happening is slim to none.
