Preschool teacher education was started in 1905 at professional secondary and in 1967 at university level. Primary teacher education has a longer history (Frankfurt, DE: Peter Lang GmbH, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften, 2012). Preschool is defined to be related to the time in a child’s life when the child is old enough to talk and walk but, is not ready to go to school. Many children attend school between the ages of two and five, it usually depends within the parent. Preschool gives great opportunity for growth in children. Preschool tends to have a huge effect on children academically. Children are taught basic pre-math and literacy skills. Ways that the teachers help improve emotional development is by allowing the children to make decisions within the classroom, while still having guideline rules they have to follow. The social skills that are taught to them are knowing how to help others and themselves. Which includes helping them learn how to meet their owns needs, such as washing their own hands, helping them adjust without an adult being present, and allowing them to work through their own problems without intervening. When allowing your students to learn to solve their problems on their own it teaches them how to manage their frustration and anger. Teachers also teach them how to take turns, share, and cooperate with each other. When preschool teach children how to do these activities it will not only help them in the classroom but also outside of the classroom. Children go into kindergarten extremely confused and frightened. For most children it is their first time being away from their parents and or guardian for a long period of time. Children have to take authority from another adult and might find it hard to understand why they aren’t the center of attention anymore. Preschool has a way of easing that challenge that kids go through with such a major change occurring in their lives. Preschools programs understand the particular ways that a young child would act in this situation and how to provide them with the best help getting them through it. The teachers help the sadness the children are facing by greeting them with open arms and excitement.
