Picture books can be seen as an easy read. It is something that needs to be easy in order for the children to understand the concepts, and be interested in listening to it. The ease of the picture book makes it difficult for people to look into the foundation of the book. There is a framework that someone might not see in the beginning of the story until they look into the bones of it. One of the most redeeming qualities is to “ensure..your story depth resonates with both the reader and the listener” (p. 23). How am I supposed to do this? Resonating with a young child is one thing, but with the adult as well makes it all the more challenging. At least that is what I think when I’m first looking into it. If I ask the same question ‘How am I going to write a children’s books?’ it tells me who the main character is in the story. In the first person pov the narrator is the main character, and the reader is more likely to see themselves as the character. Therefore if the character does not look like the child then they may be confused about how it connects with them. I think this is why we “will find that the vast majority of books will be told in the manner of an outside narrator” (p. 31). The third person perspective allows the listener, and reader, to go outside of their own mind and answer the questions from a different perspective. I think it’s difficult to stick to one point of view. As you can see in this essay I have gone through all three narratives, and that is not what a picture book is supposed to do. I have gone from talking to you, the reader,to giving my own opinion, and giving insight on others perspectives. If a child were to read this they would probably be confused as to who I am writing to, or about. One of the key things to remember is “once you start a picture book in one manner, stick to it” (p. 36). Focus is especially essential in children’s picture
