In mythology, the hero often begins their life at a disadvantage. They usually have not discovered their physical strength. Hero faces many obstacles to test his heroic abilities. However, through the experience of these harsh challenges, hero gains knowledge of himself and the nature of life. In order to complete the hero’s mission, perseverance, bravery, and passion of love are the major elements of his success. Without these values, the hero will not be able to achieve his goal. Mythology is beneficial to us in our everyday lives, influencing in many ways and helps us with what we struggle with now days.

I played an hour every day and had determination to succeed. For instance, in the myth, Savitri and Satavan, when Yama, the god of death came to take Satavan's soul. Yama decided to grant her a wish. Satvitri tricked him to hand back Satyavan back to life by requesting many children. "I will never marry again. You have granted me a false wish. It can never come true." (Jaffrey 186). Savitri had illustrated superior amount of perseverance by following Yama, then he grants Savitri various of wishes. Finally, the last wish leads to her goal of gaining Satayan's life. I used to be scared of dogs. I would scream, run and hide from them. However, after a period of time, I've decided to face my fears. I slowly make my way towards the dog and reach my hand out to pet it. Suprisingly, I managed to become friends with the dog. For instance, in Theseus and the Minotaur, Theseus demonstrated brave because he volunteered to be one of the group of teenagers sent to the Minotaur to be fed. In addition, he used this opportunity to kill the Minotaur thus risking his own life. "Because Poseidon the Earthshaker is my father, and he sent me here to sacrifice this dark thing you keep underground." Clearly, Theseus is desperate to be king consequently it has motivated him to have immense bravery to kill the minotaur. This myth teaches us to act on what your heart tells you to do and accept challenges with new experiences, even when we're frightened. Likewise Percy Jackson illustrates bravery by going on a journey to save his mother and his friends from danger. "Luke is out there right now […] I have to go after him" (Riordan 163) Percy Jackson was brave to go to the underworld and obtain the lightning bolt. His supernatural abilities were discovered at Camp Half-Blood which his bravery triggers him to use them during risky situations. C.S.
