Humanity has created this “universal story” of what a hero is, or at least the myth of it, time and again. Different tasks and encounters with a variety of villains all lead the hero to the prize, to a new life (Seger). This person deemed the hero is as ordinary as the next but what makes them different is the drastic test that they must face. Individuals admire this character because the hero stands for something, something bigger than themselves. Whether it be the compassionate act of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games or the death of the oldest brother in Brother Bear, as an outsider, an individual sees the human side of these heroes and relates. When the last hope of the unwinding revolution was presumed to be dead, this leaves the reader surprised because he had faced what he has running away from. The “worst [has been] confronted,” (Seger). The moment that leads to his new upcoming, he didn’t die, this rocky situation set in motion what he must do to continue living, what he must stand for so that thousands of other unwind kids could remain whole. What gives the final touches of the perfect case of the hero myth is the transformation. Becoming a new person, he had lost his hand in an explosion and received his enemy’s hand. Therefore, he had to learn to control it, just like he had to learn how to control his livid temper. Connor became the head, the one that a thousand runaways looked up to, to guide them and protect them. As the story comes to its conclusion, the hero has endured his hardships; he went from the one that started fights to the one that thought of what could make everything work. An ordinary person in an ordinary world faced his share of trials and tribulations to come out as a new person.
