One would wish that life spent indoors be as green and fresh as the bountiful country side. With increasing density of housing and workplace transportation issues, the countryside seems further than we would like it to be. So we move on to mitigate this effect by bringing indoors all that greenery that doesnt come with the built facilities. On my previous assignments in other countries like Bahrain, India and Southern Africa, which span over 15 years, planting indoor has been an enlightening venture. I realise that irrespective of the fact as to which part of the world or culture one belongs, it is human to be afftected by the presence of plants, and the closer they are the more lively for all. Growing a plant is like reaching out and touching …show more content…
Research has proved over time that indoor plants can purify indoor air by removing nearly 87% of indoor pollutants ( of course that will depend on the number and nature of species ) Research by NASA scientist Dr B. C Wolverton, claimed that certain palms used indoors like Areca palms released copious amounts of moisture as well as defused chemical toxins. They have acoustical benefits too.Noise reduction was found significantly effective through planting indoor plants, leading to absorption of surround noise. This was the finding by a Landscaping firm in Vancouver, when dramatic effects were observed by users in the Abbotsford Hospital where noise was bouncing around in the atrium. Six large Fig trees were installed which began to muffle the noise and people started saying 'we can hear ourselves think'. The most beautiful part of using indoor plants would be the politest way to camouflage or create privacy. When people feel they are too much exposed or the offices are too empty and the solution is not always to use more furniture or shelves, house plants come in very handy. They are vibrant, fill up the space and even break up the monotony of colors ( usually many offices in an organisation would have similar furniture, but the plants can be very different). They go beyond softening boxy cube corners and adding color to room
the modern garden. She interprets how we have the need to control and create what we consider perfect with our sciences and labs. While rules reign, sanitation demands, and socialization take control of the perfect scene for a pleasant environment, the unpleasant side of these malls such as their trash is kept out of the vision of the consumer. Most of these consumer products that are used to entice the population to enter into this heavenly place on earth became waste that is not entirely recycled
American Green has entertaining anecdotes, but should be considered more of a light read than as an authoritative work of non-fiction. This book may be enjoyed by environmentalists who want to know more about the impact that lawns have on the environment or for someone who truly is obsessed with his or her lawn and wants to learn about others who share this obsession. Steinberg’s goals may have been lofty, to prove a nationwide obsession, but his arguments and assumptions created a book that cannot be taken seriously.
There is this feeling we all experience when we step away from the chaos of rushing cars, infrastructure, and artificial lights, and we step into nature. Some describe it as bliss, comfort, excitement, pleasure or just pure happiness. This is the answer to the question Paul Bloom asks “Why should we care about nature?” in his article “Natural Happiness.” Paul goes through this process in which he uncovers the fact that “real natural habitats provide significant sources of pleasure for modern humans”, regardless of our need for food, clean water, and air. There are 3 main arguments that Paul makes in this article that I find particularly interesting, they include: “Our hunger for the natural is everywhere. In many regards our species has already kissed nature goodbye, and we are better off for it. There is a considerable mismatch between
According to an article entitled, The Child in the Garden: An Evaluative Review of the Benefits of School Gardens, by Dorothy Blair, “Anonymous prepackaged food arrives at supermarkets from energy-intensive, polluting, and often obesity-promoting industrial food-manufacturing systems.” This is the main reason that I am interested in food based education programs because I am a mother of three school aged children and as a mom it is difficult for me to encourage healthy eating habits when everything is against me. Television commercials are constantly advertising sugary foods, radios promote candy, and grocery stores encourage more candy sales at checkout lines. On top of that they are packaged in a way that is appealing to young children. For example, I was at the grocery store and saw a box of cereal with the characters of Frozen as did my daughter. Since Frozen is my daughter’s favorite movie she wanted me to buy it for her. I looked at the nutrition content and it was just another sugary cereal. As a mother this is a hard decision because I know the only reason she wants it is because of the packaging. If I say no than she becomes upset and if I say yes than I am not providing healthy food choices. This is the

Landscaping business remains essential in preserving natural beauty in the world. Personally, with any business, the key is to keep the motto simple. To your point, always provide quality products matched with great service, and customers will remain loyal. Honestly, there is no one way to prevent competition from entering into any market, if a product or service is producing profit, everyone business will want a piece of the pie. According to Thomas & Maurice (2010), strong barriers of entry makes it difficult for new firms to enter, but it does not stop entry from happening. To that point, all companies at some point will face government barriers, whether large or small.
...ngesting harmful pollutants or UV radiation, others note that solutions for combating such risks exist. Such solutions include going outside for a short period of time and performing activities such as exercise which causes one to need oxygen or opening windows whenever possible to allow some fresh, unpolluted air to circulate in one’s home. While indoors, one must make sure to not over sterilize items or to consume synthetic ingredients, for both of those actions shall lead to possible health consequences later on in life. Buying fresh produce and sterilizing at certain time intervals could combat such dangers one faces in an indoor environment. The gargantuan health benefits one would receive if one maintained a healthy balance of living in both an indoor and outdoor environment should prompt many to take these steps to ensure a healthy and happy lifestyle.
Landscaping is a beautiful way to add interest and beauty to your home, but many don't have the time to keep up with a high maintenance garden. Though many flowers are more high maintenance, there are plenty lower maintenance plants available to create a masterpiece without breaking the bank or your back. The key to low maintenance landscaping is proper preparations, plant and flower selections and proper placement of the plants into their places. If you select your plants and place them properly your garden will perform at its best year round. First, selecting the site for your garden is a must, so you will know the conditions of the soil and sunlight exposure for that area.
We just learned about the outdoor air pollution, now we have to learn about the indoor air pollution. Indoor air pollution, is founded with the highest concentration of harmful fumes or toxic pollutants than outdoors. According to Nature, Causes, and Burden of Condition, air pollution is considering “a major threat to health, particularly for women and young children, who may spend many hours close to the fire”, other words most of the household uses “solid fuels burn them in open fire or simple stoves that release most of the smoke into the home”, creating more air pollution (Bruce, Rehfuess, Mehta, Hutton, & Smith
- Gates and fences should be higher while allowing natural surveillance onto and from street. - Planting should not grow to obscure view or provide hiding place for criminals. - Provide full illumination to pedestrian walkways. - Awareness programs for residents and formation of active resident associations. - The presence of green space within the neighborhood has been associated with a number of positive psychosocial outcomes, including sense of community and also found that residents living near high nature rather than low-nature areas were more socially active, knew more neighbors, felt neighbors were more helpful and supportive, and had a greater sense of
With more needs for nature experience and sustainable development in urban areas, increasing importance has been attached to urban open spaces since they play a crucial role to support the ecology system and form a natural network in the cities (Chiesura, 2004; Tzoulas et al., 2007). Urban open spaces include plazas, parks, campus, greenways and other green spaces. They serve as islands of nature, enriching urban landscapes, adjusting the microclimate, promoting biodiversity and providing habitats for other species (Chiesura, 2004; Do, Kim, Kim, & Joo, 2014; Morimoto, 2011). Apart from these benefits, they also show a great impact on urban dwellers’ health, since open spaces offer places for outdoor activities and opportunities for contact with nature (Chiesura, 2004). Tyrväinen et al. (2014) indicated that even short-term visits to urban green spaces have positive psychological and physiological effects on perceived stress relief. People were attracted to urban open spaces for physical activities, social interactions, and a relief from daily life, which benefit their mental and physical health (Thwaites, Helleur, & Simkins, 2005). A large epidemiological study in Britain looked at mortality and morbidity among three income levels in relation to urban residents’ access to green open space (Mitchell & Popham,
From my own experience, I know that the cool spring breeze makes me feel a whole lot better about life. Nature has the ability to reawaken one’s inner youth. To contrast from nature, Frost also uses the integration of industrialized rural life. “It is my belief, Watson, founded upon my experience, that the lowest and vilest alleys in London do not present a more dreadful record of sin than does the smiling and beautiful countryside.” (Doyle).
Did you know there is another approach to cleaning up the air inside your house? It turns out that ordinary houseplants can purify the air, even cleaning such bad boys as formaldehyde, ammonia, and benzene from the air. Houseplants even cut down drastically on airborne microbes. Here are ten common houseplants that can beautify your home and clean up indoor air pollution. 1.
And anything you do, she adds, prevent reddish; it's been shown to adversely impact functionality that is analytic. Bringing nature into your office can be an excellent way to inspire imagination and also a feeling of wellness, says Augustin. "Plants are great from a psychological standpoint," she says. "You don't want to pack too many into a modest space, but it can be excellent to have a small plant on your desktop, or something a little larger in the corner of your
