Health promotion is another one of the most prominent strategies utilised by the government to achieve health targets. It promotes the concept of self-care which is the heart of patient empowerment. This encompasses an inclusive involvement of the patient and their care network, which could include their whānau, communities and health providers (Ministry of Health, 2007). A leading health promotion initiative is seen in the form of healthy eating. Evidence of a nurse led healthy eating intervention is seen in the Healthy Future Families trust. This trust that is set up and run by local nurses in collaboration with schools and local community outlets. It aims to promote healthy eating behaviours around children and their whānau. A leading protective factor for these diseases is physical activity. Pedometers are a good generic and non-specific physical activity counselling for the general population. They promote increase in physical activity through self management (Patel, Kolt, Schofield, & Keogh, 2014). McMurry & Clendon (2014) explain that by empowering the population to develop mastery over their own lives, it tends to significantly improve health outcomes and increase social inclusion. Pedometers are a good frontline intervention as they encourage a motivational approach to management of health through physical activity. By being able to set individual goals, monitor progress and get instant confirmation of progress, patients can feel in control of their own …show more content…
Due to inequity, not all of the population has access to this technology. A resolution to this was offered in the form of a lending service. Pedometers could be lent out to the patient for a set time period to encourage a regular physical activity routine. Once this routine was established and the patient experienced the positive health outcomes, it would naturally evolve into a sense of empowerment, this with an optimistic prediction, could transform unhealthy habits into healthier ones (Patel, Kolt, Schofield, & Keogh,

Health monitoring allows you to discover and treat health problems early, before consequences. Many psychological disorders, cancers, metabolic disorders, cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary diseases, and musculoskeletal disorders can be prevented by monitoring health and incorporating physical activity and exercise; for example: depression, breast cancer, obesity, cardiomyopathy, emphysema, and osteoarthritis. There are primary benefits that can be received from engaging in exercise or physical activity. One of the main benefits is reducing the risk of premature death: “it is been estimated that people who were physically active for approximately 7 hours a week have a 30 to 40% lower risk of dying early than those who are active less than 30 minutes per week” (Kohl & Murray 2012). It's clear that research has found the importance of avoiding inactivity and that even a little physical activity is better than none at all; due to dose response relation between poor health and the amount of physical activity.

“Health is defined as a state of physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” (WHO). Like wise health promotion is the process of increasing the functional capacity of all people hence promote the sense of well-being. In order to accomplish this goal all health care professionals have to work hard by submitting themselves to their patients and community as a whole. Thus globalize health promotion should be the ultimate mission for all health care team, especially for nurses. Nurses are the first level health care team therefore nurses should play as a role model to all human beings. They should hold various positions in order to achieve optimum results. In this evolving health industry health promotion is a complex action hence all health care professionals should try to overcome the possible challenges.

When we examine health and physical activity we often believe that the ultimate healthy body is always within reach through hard work and dedication. We are fed the notion of meritocracy, that anybody, regardless of gender, race, status, or class can achieve their dreams whether that goal is to be healthy or earn more wealth. An example of this would be the “American Dream”, where immigrants traveled to America for dreams of a better life, but a bitter reality hit these new citizens of American society (Smith 2009). Despite what people believe, America is not a meritocracy, there are many factors that influences one’s status and choices. The same can be applied to physical activity and health.
The purpose of public health is to limit the disparities that happen to be experienced in the community. As such, the main goal of public health can be said to be the promotion of equity, accessibility and quality services in the healthcare sector. On the other hand, health promotion can be defined as that particular process that enables different individuals

bstract In a modern world many environmental factors greatly affect our life and health. Some of them, like air pollution, accupational hazards and stressors are easy to recognise and therefore people are willing to address them. In this health promotion plan I would like to work on such environmental factor as noise pollution. Exposure to harmfull noises became higher in modern world.
Since the dawn of humanity, exercise has been crucial for physical survival. In recent times, however, exercise is losing its significance to human survival. Some would argue that it already has lost its significance, and as exercise becomes less important, people exercise less. According to fitness.gov, only 33% of adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week (citation). Clearly there is a problem. However, there is still a fraction of the population that exercises diligently. Why do these people stick with it? Exercise has countless advantages that are still extremely important to our lives. So even though the need of exercise may appear to be diminishing, the practical effects should be enough to encourage people
6). Workplace health promotion designed to improve lifestyle, and ultimately enhance health, the ability to function, and productivity (Rongen, Robroek, van Lenthe, & Burdorf, 2013, p. 406). Over the years, various theoretical models have evolved to “articulate variables involved in health behavior to predict participation and engage would be non-participants” (Galloway, 2003). Health Belief Model was one of the first theories of health behavior developed in 1950s by a group of social psychologists, who sought to explain what motivates public to participate in programs designed for wellness promotion and disease prevention (Nursing Theories, 2013). According to this model, preventative behaviors depend on the individuals’ beliefs, including their vulnerabilities to the disease, the effect of the disease on their lives, and the effect of health activities on reducing the disease severity and susceptibility (Sharafkhani, Khorsandi, Shamsi, & Ranjbaran, 2014, p.

Because Franklin County is so large, initial goals would be applied to a neighborhood setting before implementation across the county. To make a positive impact on health and decrease heart disease within the community, these goals are meant to decrease barriers to exercise and provide motivation for exercise participation. Two of the short-term goals address the barriers of time and cost. The other two short-term goals provide convenience and support and recognize that people are motivated differently
