In the time we live in now, my generation seems to overlook the many amazing gifts America has given to us. Unfortunately, many people in my generation choose to ignore all of the privileges we have been provided with. One of those many privileges being our freedom. Freedom is something the entirety of America has taken, and will most likely, continue to take for granted. It has been around for so long that we feel entitled to it. Everyday we have the chance to make her own opinions and give reason to our own voice. We have the chance to live in a country that encourages freedom in society, which separate ourselves from any restrictions imposed upon by authority, actions or any political views. liberty is the power we possess to act as we please through freedom and independence. The American Revolution, which took place between 1765 and 1783, was the political uprising that caused the separation of the thirteen colonies and the British Empire. It formed an independent nation known as the Unites States of America. Although slavery was still expanding, America began earning its name, “Land of the Free” as it started granting people more rights, which included women’s rights, governmental changes, and land ownership.
The United States' democratic system embraces its numerous obligations in a manner which promotes a comfortable and effective society in which the citizens may embark on everyday life knowing that the government is continually engrossed in performi ng its duties to protect and support the rights of the people. Although suicide is illegal, the government must recognize the trauma of those who are terminally ill in order to maintain a fair and equal democracy. By weighing these ideas and recognizing the dignity of an individual along with the law, government attempts to provide a suitable life for all. Through combined efforts of freedom of expression and censorship, liberty is maintained, because both the speaker's and the listener's rights are re spected. The government recognizes that all human life is precious; and, therefore it does its best to enable each individual the ability to gain their desired position in life throug the help of social services. A position not necessarily of vast wealt h, but one in which a person may feel content and gratified. Jefferson envisioned such cases as above long before they were contemplated; it is through the Declaration of Independence in 1776, he reflected his strong, intellectual beliefs (Jeffers on 615). Perhaps the most exclusive aspect of American freedom is stated directly in the Declaration of Independence. It states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness" (Jefferson). It is important to distinguish between freedom’s kinds of values, because in defining a system of government, the attitude towards freedom is a key component. If freedom has no independent value, different schools of political thought might have the standpoint, that we should not value freedom at all, only the things that it is means to. Some might think that they know better what is good for people, and feel justified in constraining people’s freedom. We intuitively value freedom, and usually do not even notice, that we have it, because it woven through so much of our everyday life. We take freedom for granted, even though in some countries it is not so trivial. It is not enough to feel that freedom is our basic right, but to understand why it is so important, and why freedom can not be replaced by the specific ends one might think it is means to. I will argue, that freedom does have independent value. First I will talk about the non-independent value of freedom, and look at the different independent values, then concentrate on the non-specific instrumental value. I am going to look at claims where Dworkin and Kymlicka were wrong, and evaluate Ian Carter’s standpoint.
In America we have 3 essential elements of our political culture: Liberty, equality, and democracy. Everyone has the right to freedom, as long as that freedom does not interfere with other citizens individual rights. You can’t have true liberty without equality, “with liberty and justice for all”. Equality means everyone the opportunity of liberty. America is a democracy, meaning citizens have the right and responsibility to vote officials into office. The concepts of liberty and equality often come into conflict in American politics. Some recent conflicts have included arguments over women’s reproductive rights.
"Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation." -Coretta Scott King, civil rights activist. That quote says a lot to me. There is no true everlasting freedom. The quote means that you can never truly win freedom. You can earn it and you can win it in every generation, but you can lose it or keep it. Freedom can be won in many ways. However, freedom can also be lost in many ways. Everyone wants freedom and everyone wants to keep and hold on to freedom forever.
What would you do without freedom? Too many people in America take the greatest thing we have in our country for granted. Not a lot of people realize how great they have it compared to other countries in the world. I couldn’t imagine from the time I was born having someone already have my life picked out for me, or work at the same job for 40 years knowing you can never move up from the position you started at, and the worst thing is you never even chose that job.
Our country is an independent country that has many features and flaws, but we all just have to live with them. There are many things that other countries think America is all about. Some main things I see; hillbillies, beer, junk food, and fat people. That may be the case with some people, but that is not what being an American is all about. There are many things that this country has to offer for us. Maybe these are just stereo types, but most of them are offensive. There are three main things that come when you are American. Those three things come with having freedom, individuality, and our given Rights.
Could you survive without liberty? What does liberty even mean? To me, liberty is the right to be free and do as we please. I believe that for America to embrace liberty, we need to be educated about it. It should be taught in every school in the nation. It is such an important part of America. Regardless of how different we are in this nation, we know we have one thing in common and that is liberty.
Freedom is the absence of subjection or foreign domination or despotic government. The United States of America is imposing on this statement above. The United States is going to close all the borders to all immigrants. The government is thinking about closing the borders to helpless Muslim men woman and children, turn them away and say that they are not our problem. Is that right? Is that what American the Free was created on? The United States has Freedom of Religion, with this new idea the United States is imposing on this law. The borders should stay open. The reasons why are as follows: It goes against the very constitution, most immigrants are not dangerous, if we close we might lose friends and allies and be attacked.
Freedom, is one of the so called American Dreams, but what makes it a dream. What is it about this feeling that makes people yearn for its competence? If you looked up the word freedom in the dictionary what would it say ? The morals of freedom are so powerful they have caused wars around the world and have given people strength to push through during the most harrowing times. If the freedom to speak freely about political and economic issues is taken away from the people, then the people will always rebel.
No Freedom in The Land of the Free The United States of America, known as the land of the free. Where all are free to do as they please, with consequences to illegal acts obviously. But is this the land of the free? A land where people are being “protected” and “secured” at the cost of their freedom. This is no longer the land of the free. This is not the America it once was. We are no longer free. This nation seems to be not just under God, but under surveillance. Those that have said over and over that all are free, are the same people constantly monitoring and watching. The government says that security is for the people’s benefit, but in order to have security they need to give up “some” of their freedom. They shouldn’t have to give that up. Whatever each person decides to do they have that choice because of freedom. Freedom is doing whatever one wants within the law. It is the ability to make choices for oneself and to pursue the things that make an individual happy without regard to race or religion.
