Extra-curricular activities can play a significant role in young people’s lives. With future employment being contingent upon their skills, extra-curricular activities can be used to enhance commonly sought-after skills such as excellent communication and the ability to work in a team. Therefore, those who partake in such clubs may have an advantage in seeking employment compared to their peer-counterparts. Developing these skills at primary school ages can prevent students from struggling with their ability to build social relationships at a later age. Students can explore a range of activities some of which they may not have previously considered. On the other hand, the nature of extra-curricular clubs could result in pupils facing difficulties in balancing their schoolwork with additional clubs. The second lesson involved preparing food and I noticed the students were more engaged during this lesson. Two of the children left the club after the first week, which was disappointing and slightly knocked my confidence. However, my resilient nature enabled me to use this as an opportunity to improve my lessons and in the second week, I asked for feedback on what students enjoyed most. Following their feedback, I altered lesson plans according to what students were more motivated to learn, which was cooking. Although designed for adults, my voluntary work as a Cook and Eat Well teaching assistant facilitated the creation of my revised lesson plans. I used my initiative to make this experience relevant to the context of working with children. This proved to be a successful change as the children enjoyed the lessons and tried new foods they had not previously considered
