The feeling of stress is inevitable to avoid and remove entirely from our lives. As we go through life and our stress levels rise, for various reasons, resulting in the feeling of worry, anxiety, insomnia, etc. We search for strategies to assist with decreasing the feeling of stress or to better help cope with it. Coping is defined as “managing taxing circumstances, expending effort to solve life’s problems, and seeking to master or reduce stress” (p521). Individuals perform a wide range of different activities to help manage stress and decrease its effects such as working out at a gym regularly, attending routine social gatherings, and reading books. One stress reducer that our society often overlooks is nature and its benefits. There have been studies on forest bathing, which involves walking a forest trail or sitting on a boulder and observing nature with all five senses, that proves to minimize stress.

At work there is a nearby park directly across the street and when I am feeling stressed, over my lunch break I often take a walk through it. Once, I began to take a walk to decrease the feeling of stress, I was quickly distracted by the children playing basketball and skateboarders performing dangerous tricks without wearing any safety gear. These activities I saw along my walk did not help reduce the feeling of stress but temporarily occupied my attention away from the stress itself. As a result, once lunch was over the feeling of stress returned as I headed back to work. Surprisingly, I did not experience the same feeling of self-efficacy that I had cultivated at Lake Calhoun. Self-efficacy is “an individual's belief that he or she can master a situation and produce positive outcome”
Scientific evidence provides the information on the negative effects stress in the different levels of our wellbeing. Stress has been identified as a killer, just like the warnings we see in the crazed commercials on cigarette smoking, we cannot ignore the reality of inevitable damage. Those of us that experience an awaking of senses are able to reduce and control stress levels by putting life into prospective. My perspective upon completing this project citifies my conviction for developing reduction in stress principles and life style

Stress is a natural occurrence that most every person will experience at some point in his or her life. A stressor, as defined by Potter, Perry, Stockert, and Hall (2013), is any kind of event or situation that a person encounters in their environment that requires him or her to change and adapt. When a person responds to stress, his or her coping mechanisms and actions are individualized. No two people are going to handle stressful situations and cope with experiences the same exact way. This research is guided by two major theories. First, Transactional Theory, which is a widely accepted theory of coping developed by Richard Lazarus and Susan Folkman. Second, the Control Theory developed by Charles Carver and Michael Scheier.
Modern life is full of troubles, frustrations and deadlines. People have to suffer stressful from many directions and they seem to be consent to live with stress. Many people think that they can stand with stressful and it is harmless, but it is not. If people live in stress during a long period of time, it has bad effect to health and spirit. Therefore, there is actually that you can protect yourself by understanding stress and how to reduce these harmful effects caused by stress.
The concept of self-efficacy is grounded in Bandura’s (1977) social learning theory. Bandura (1994) defines perceived self-efficacy as “people’s beliefs about their capabilities to produce efforts” (p. 71). In essence, one having strong self-efficacy experience increase in motivation, accomplishment, and personal well-being ( Bandura, 1994). Those with a low sense of self-efficacy, on the other hand, often suffer stress and depression; unbelieving of their capabilities and often succumbed to failure (Bandura, 1994).
There was a study conducted by Gibbons, Dempster, and Moutray (2011) that addressed stress, coping and satisfaction in nursing students by taking a deeper look into how different stress sources and coping resources affected the stress and psychological well being of the students. The findings suggested, “initiatives to promote support and self-efficacy are likely to have immediate benefits for student well-being”(Gibbon et al., 2011). The most helpful finding when applying the study to myself was considering eustress, instead of negative stress as an important way to encourage and support self-efficacy (Gibbon et al., 2011).
In order to survive in an environment with no food, water, or shelter some people first skill they want to learn is how to catch food or build a fire, but in reality the main skill needed is the psychology of survival. Being put in that type of environment will most likely cause stress so the first thing to remember is to know yourself. Take time before the release into the wild to discover who you really are. Learn how to use your strong qualities and try strengthening the weaker ones. If you have difficulty doing it by yourself ask family or friends to help you out.
The pros of exercise can maintain the levels of stress and anxiety in a variety of ways. Simple exercises like walking around your neighborhood or on a treadmill can ease the amount of stress in your life.
