Communication gap between nurses and patients, or between nurses and care givers, or nurses and coordinate staff of the unit, is the main dilemma of the care giving facilities. This sometimes leads to some unwanted situations that become unmanageable at all levels. This usually happens when the unit staff is overburden with work, lack of knowledge of latest technology, gap in communication in staff and patients due to generation gap, miscommunication between care givers and care providers and improper use of verbal and non-verbal communication.

No doubt that a well versed nursing leadership can handle communication gap between mixed generational associates of nurses. In the guide ‘The Nurse Manager 's Guide to an Intergenerational Workforce’ (Clipper, B., 2013) guided tactics are provided to inspire nurse managers on how to communicate with mixed age groups coworkers and patients to avoid conflicts and to ensure patients’ safety.
Bridging Communication Gap:
To bridge the communication gap at all levels, this author has suggested few measures which are as follows:
Periodic feedback from floor unit staff, fellow nurses and patients and their family members should be taken to further improve the situation.
A nurse should be properly trained to understand medical terminologies used in execution of their duties.
Proper technological language should be understood by the relevant unit staff at all levels.
If there is a big generation gap in staff members or patient then a nurse should know how to tackle the situation with with the mixed age group people, keeping in view their ethnic and cultural background.

They are the connection between the facility management, physicians and other care givers, and the patients and their families. They are the main link between patients and care givers. Few basic but compulsory steps should be taken to improve quality of communication, whether verbal or non-verbal, in nurses’ leaders and managers.
1. Motivational materials should be played in hospital rooms and corridors through internal television systems, so visiting people, patients and workforce can see the documentaries. It is proved that graphics and video presentations can leave more impact than writing material.
2. Nurses’ leaders and managers should be rewarded in any form to motivate them to make their units more cordial and comfortable for not only for the patients but also for their coworkers.
3. In a health care facility various age groups workers are involved. Sometimes there is a gap of generations. It is duty of a good nurse leader to take everybody together. He or she should be a good listener to hear and understand their problems, and should handle the situations within the available means of the

In a healthcare environment where there are constant interactions among nurses, doctors, patients and other health professionals, professional and effective communication is important in ensuring high quality healthcare standards and meeting the individual needs of patients.
Nursing is an ever changing profession, making strong leadership a crucial aspect. “Nursing leaders play a significant role in creating positive work environments for nurses” (Young – Ritchie, Laschinger, & Wong, 2007, para 1). The intent of this paper is to analyze interviews with a staff nurse and a nurse manager. The interview questions revolve around what the nurses perceive as the main communication issues at work. More specifically, the communication issues with patient communication, communication with colleagues and communication with leadership/administration. Firstly, Nurses must develop the right communication tools when dealing with their patients. For example most nurses do bedside reporting, before they change their shift in the morning, therefore they would be relaying information to the other nurse about the patient they dealt with during the night. The nurse that is going off shift would give a report to the incoming nurse in the presence of the patient. He or she has to discuss the condition of the patient, medications and the procedures so the next nurse would be on the same level. Most nurses in the General Hospital do their reporting by the bedside of their patients.
