Can you be happy in life and career at the same time; in today’s world it seems impossible, You are no different than others. Bronnie Ware an Australian nurse who spent several years caring for patients in the last 12 weeks of their lives has heard numerous dying epiphanies and lists these as the top regrets from the death bed in her book –“The Top Five Regrets of The Dying.” I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends. I wish that I had let myself be happier. Most of us can relate to fear associated with our career: whether it is job insecurity, slower salary growth, less chances of promotion, or continually increasing workload. Such fears can make you work even harder to safeguard your career. Solution? Create more space in your personal life. Prepare yourself for a higher level by simplifying your mindset and lifestyle. Previous generations have a strong belief of keeping work and home life separate; that work is for work and home is for play (Rampell, 2011, para 21). Today’s professionals do not seem to abide by similar beliefs, constantly crossing the borders of one into the other. While many recognize this as an issue that could result in employees being less productive, it has actually resulted in them accepting that their work may run late into the evening or even into the weekend. I agree with this completely in that I grew up being taught that business is business and personal is personal; you leave your home life at the door. But now times have changed, and my weekends are no longer dedicated to my home life, but for work, because I attend classes during the week. Also, in my line of work in the Allied Health industry, it is a requirement to work off hours. Long gone are the days of working nine to five, Monday through Friday; technology and the demand of wanting affairs done and done as soon as possible, has made it so the “work week” is now 24-7. “Jon Della Volpe, the director of polling at Harvard Institute of Politics, said, ‘Some experts also believe that today’s young people are better at quickly switching from one task to another, given their exposure to so many stimuli during their childhood and adolescence’” (Rampbell,
The meaning of life is to find the meaning of life. Is it not? We all go through each day trying to figure out which road out the infinite amount of paths will lead us in a better direction where happiness is prominent and society is flawless. However, not every single human being is going to fit on that narrow, one-lane highway to success. Bad choices, accidents, fate, family matters, society, temptation, anger, rage, addiction, and loss of hope can all be deciding factors in opting to choose that wrong path to self-destruction. The adverse thing is, once you've traveled so far down the road, you get so discouraged that you feel like you can never turn back or make up for the "lost time."
This source explains the relationship between working overtime and the work-family conflict. With this source, they “investigated whether work-family conflict is prospectively related to adjustments in work schedules… in this relation”. (Jansen) They also wanted to prevent work- family conflict. They also know that balancing work and family is a challenge in today’s society for individuals. Consequences associated with work and family “job burnouts, psychological distress, depression, life dissatisfaction, elevated need for recovery from work, prolonged fatigue, and increased sickness absence”. (Jansen) The companies are starting to notices that employees are looking for other jobs that support them balance their work and family. Jansen used questionnaires to figure out the work-family conflict investigation. Each questionnaire was use with different types of working people. For example, the part-time and full-time workers. The results for the work-family conflict, “employees might adjust their working time arrangement to better reconcile work and family life…” (Jansen) They are considering their next research on the adjustments to “result in an improved work-family balance, improved health outcomes, and ultimately whether these adjustments prevent workers from leaving the labor force early.” (Jansen)
In conclusion we have seen how death can take a big effect on a person who is close to death and love one's family and friends. Death is a major part of life that all of us will go through one day. Even though we can't avoid death there are ways that we can deal with death in healthy manners. There is no time limit on how long it takes to heal from the mark death has made, but with the right attitude and the proper steps taken, anyone can move on in life.
“Persons intentionally choose to become nurses to help patients meet their health needs,” even when the patient is actively dying. (Wu & Volker, 2012) Hospice nursing and palliative care nursing are both considered end of life care. However, hospice nursing is typically given to patients with a terminal illness and who have less than six months to live. Palliative care is typically given to patients with a life threatening illness, and is used to increase the patient’s quality of life. Choosing a nursing career in either hospice or palliative care can be extremely difficult, but will provide an opportunity for great personal growth. At times, an end-of-life caregiver may feel responsible for their patient’s death, or they may feel isolated due to a lack of support. Nurses new to this field should “feel that their unit acknowledges death as a difficult event and that discussion of death is acceptable in the workplace.” (Lewis, 2013) The most rewarding, and also most difficult, part of being a hospice or palliative care nurse is the ability to be a part of your patient and their family’s life, including their loss, grief, and death. (Wu & Volker, 2012)
When the U.S. is compared to the conditions of other workers in other countries the numbers come as quite a shock. According to the magazine Psychology Today, “The United States—one of the richest countries in the world--ranks 28th among advanced nations in the category of work-life balance, 9th from the bottom” (Cummins 1). This stressful imbalance of home life with excessive work hours has left us in desperate need of more time and is becoming a strong identifier of American culture in the world. As Cummins explains, “We log long hours at work with the fear of losing our jobs through downsizing hanging over our heads. Then we fight rush hour traffic to get home in time to be super-parents, putting dinner on the table, helping our kids with their homework, and checking in with friends and family members we feel we have neglected because we are so overwhelmed” (Cummins 1). This well pa...
After experiencing this phenomenon, the near death survivor often reports a non-fear of death. They may experience feelings that death is not the end, but a new beginning in which one lives in euphoria and reunites with loved ones for eternity. Others may also have a different outlook on the experience. Where they focus more on how precious life is and, how they will not take for granted the time they have left on this earth. For example, instead of feelings of a new beginning after life, they believe that their near death experience was an awakening for their present life.
Happiness can be easily defined as the state of well-being and contentment gained by personal life experiences through either direct or indirect connections with the world around us. The people we meet and the trails we go through in life add together to create a hopefully happy life. To be happy in life is indeed the only way to enjoy it. Therefore it’s no wonder that we all strive to achieve this idea of happiness. This interest in the search for true happiness has become a major factor in our modern age. Looking back at our history, the moods of many Americans have seemed to become stagnate even when we experience a rise in salaries and overall life expectance. This begs the question as to what then
There have been various questions that have been asked concerning how people can balance their family lives and work life. Some researchers decided to do a research which showed that many people are not able to balance their family and work life. This is because they do not know how to do it (Fine-Davis, 2005). There is always too much pressure on one side of their life which leads to some of them ignoring one part of it. The other part gets too much attention. This then leads to an imbalance in the family life and work life. This has been the main problem that many employees are facing. They have to do it because when one side is neglected, it becomes relay difficult to make up f...
...orking progress to reach a stage where one can focus on oneself and see the larger picture, as an adventure and experiences. The one secret to actually getting happiness has nothing to do with setting goals or achieving them. To obtain your definition of happiness, firstly, be more optimistic and have a positive outlook on all opportunities and not look for “happy moments,” because “happy moments” can last for so long. All in all, happiness equals appreciating each and every moment for whatever it has to offer, and to add personal values and purpose onto your life. This all might make happiness hard to achieve, but the up side is that happiness can be created in any situation. There are plenty of stories of people facing hardships in their life, but would still find happiness in their family, faith, and career, and the hardships just doesn’t seem too hard after all.
Happiness is an inner state of well-being and fulfilment, and therefore it has to come from inside. Every individual has his or her own emotions and way of thinking and as a result of this no one can really say what happiness is and what happiness is not. However, universally, happiness is a by-product of a healthy attitude and viewpoint. Happiness exists in everyone whether they choose to acknowledge and believe it or not. It is not rare nor is it something only the elite have: everyone has it but not everyone recognizes it. Contentment is finding a light at the end of every dark tunnel and in order to experience this we must ignore the pessimism surrounding us and remind ourselves that happiness is not a materialistic object but a choice and frame of mind.

In the simple word, it is defined as the way of seeking the balancing between work role and personal role. People seek for balance in their life to satisfy their needs and create a healthy and productive life which include work, play and love (Kofodimos, 1993). Besides that, there are three components included in work family balance: time balance, involvement balance, and satisfaction balance. When an employee is able to achieve the sense of balance, it will increase their job satisfaction in organization. The reverse is true. If people fail to achieve the balancing, work-life conflict will occurs in organization. Work-life conflict is defined as the blurring line between work life and personal life (Robbins and Judge, 2009). In order to solve the problem, organization needs to find out the measures to reduce the conflict. Mostly, the companies take actions to change the work culture. For example, they try to create a family friendly workplace by launching program or policy such as on-site child care, flextime, jobs sharing, telecommuting and part time employment. Work-life
