In 2012, I was involved in an accident where I badly fractured my neck. The first responders had to keep my neck immobilized until I was at the hospital in order to
prevent paralysis. If you can imagine being held down by 4 different first responders, it is a very scary experience. The man who was holding my neck in place was
comfort in a time of chaos. He went above and beyond his job description. He told me stories about his daughters to keep me distracted and calm. I trusted him that
I would be okay because of the reassurance he gave me. I want to be that comfort for people. I want to be a first responder that goes above and beyond the job
