Just like Rawlings had once said, “I am able to make a significant impact on the lives of children and families that use this setting” (128). This can be true for those who have the passion and want to change lives, but how does someone change a life on another human being? Does it start from becoming a fireman, a policeman, or even a doctor? These are all great ways to change a life, but this writer is going to talk about how becoming an Early Childhood Educator can change the life of a child. This occupation contains many fields like a Preschool teacher, a Kindergarten teacher, or First through Third grade teacher. In each of these field there are some requirements in education whether it’s just a high school degree or even a bachelor’s. Some states may require a teacher to have some form of license, certification, registration, and/or higher degree. Along with having an educational background a teacher also needs to have skills when working with children. Some skills that are needed is communication, creativity, interpersonal, organizational, and patience. Early Childhood is an occupation that does require hard work, but this career is great for those who have a passion for children. Many contemplate why they would want to become an Early Childhood Educator. Some may enjoy the challenge of teaching and the new experiences in the classroom every day. Others choose to teach because they love to be around young children while helping them grown in knowledge. Becoming a teacher might not been the first objection and some may even refuse the idea, until they have had successfully helped a child learn their ABC’s or even just counting to ten. Due to an increased demannd for standards and accountability in the early childhood education field, policy makers have increasingly turned to the development of effective professional practice among early childhood educators (ECEs) as the predominant approach in securing better outcomes for children. ECEs have thus found themselves under increased pressure to develop professional practices through professional development which has been demonstrated to have a profound impact on children’s holistic development and their performance prospects in society. This essay will focus on the development of effective professional practice among ECEs. The paper will critically evaluate the importance of developing professional practice among ECEs, how it is developed and the application in ECE’s practice. The essay will highlight how professional practice and core beliefs of ECEs are shaped by factors such as professional and personal identity, beliefs and values and regulatory documents and bodies.
Early childhood education, although constantly evolving, was actually established and practiced as early on as the times of Ancient Greece and Rome. The foundation that early childhood education is based upon is to instill in children the skills needed to succeed later on in life, while making sure young children enjoy their time in schooling. Throughout chapter 3 in the textbook Who Am I in the Lives of Children, the reader is capable of evaluating just how greatly the methods for teaching today’s youth have evolved and changed for the better.
Although I had a variety of options to choose from as my career, I was very passionate to take the path of an Early Childhood Educator. This was to not only inspire the young children that are going to be looking up to me, but to be an educator that will help guide the children to become the best they can be in the present and future. I believe with all the support I can provide my future students, they can achieve the basic knowledge required to move on towards attaining higher academic accomplishments.
Every teacher has this potential whether they are aware of it or not. I have been a teacher for nine years in early childhood education and within those nine years I have become very aware of how powerful the smallest act of caring can turn a person’s life around or even just make someone’s day a little better. Being a preschool teacher has brought me great pleasure to my life simply brightening a child’s day and knowing that I am making a difference in their life. Through my journey as a teacher I have thought about how I can advance in my career field and still be active with children on a daily basis and continue making a difference in each child’s life as well as their parents. With plenty of thought and research I have come to the conclusion and gained the interest to become a preschool and childcare director.

It is important for early childhood educators to examine their own values, beliefs and attitudes, as they may not realise and be aware of some negative or ill- informed attitudes that they may possess. Educators, like everyone else, are shaped by their life experiences. Their culture, their religion, their beliefs, their family life and society around them. All life experiences have an impact, how we allow these experiences to take impact or effect or create our values, beliefs and attitudes is up to us.
From the perspective I have at this stage in my journey in the early childhood education field, I would like to share what I have come to value and believe in regards to early learning and care by looking at my philosophy statement. To begin we will look at the statement and highlight three key features and find out why they are important to me, then we will see what they will look like in my practice, and lastly we will examine these ideas closely by looking at where they originated. By taking an in-depth look at my philosophy statement we will better understand the motivation behind my practice which I hope to continue to refine and refresh as I gain more knowledge and experience.
As a teacher in early childhood development, I believe that the teacher skills and personality influence how children understand, observe and react to the classroom environment and the world around them. Even though part of teacher responsibilities are academic, daily interactions that encourage social, emotional and physical development are important. One of a quality effective early childhood educators’ characteristic is that they should have patience.
In the end, as early childhood educators we want to fight the constant layers of oppression our generation currently encourages and condones into what America is made up to be. By identifying our personal biases, understanding our many social identities, examining institutional advantages and disadvantages, understanding internalized privilege and oppression, and finally learning how to take action we can change the way kids socially identify themselves and create a wholesome environment where we are all equal. By respecting and coaching healthy ways of life, our children can only grow to help future generations and facilitate a growing America with positive results.

I realize that going into this teaching field, I will most likely have to interact with adults who will argue that it is useless.
