The way that we choose to interact with people says a lot about us. We have learned that human beings have been created in the image of God. Genesis 1:26-27 tells us that in a very clear manner. Every single one of us is made in the image of God, and we are all created equally. How we treat others can show a direct correlation to how we value God. Believing that all humans are created in God’s image is helpful in the career field of nursing. As a bedside nurse you are constantly interacting with people. One big thing while you are a patient is the issue of dignity. Being sick, a lot of times you are unable to perform activities of daily living on your own, and have to rely on someone else to help you do the things that you are used to doing independently. There are times when people are hard to deal with and are not concerned with anything rather than the issue that they are dealing with at that exact moment. I believe that this is where self and social awareness come into play. I will admit to having moments where I wanted to avoid going into a certain patient’s room altogether, but when I stop and think that we are all God’s children, all created in his likeness, I am able to hold it together. Our worth as human beings, is directly related to our Creator. And I know that the value of our God is unmeasurable, so if we are made to be like him, we must be pretty great too. When people become stressed, sick, emotional, etc. it can alter our behavior. When you work in the public and deal with people daily, it is important to remember that we never know what someone else is dealing with. We must treat everyone with the love and kindness that we would want shown to us. Not everyone follows this golden rule, but I really do try to keep it in mind every single
