INT. DANTE'S HOUSE - KITCHEN - continuous
Anna's mouth waters as Dante one by one unloads the contents of his bag onto the table: Bottled water and food supplies that he scavenged.
With his rug sack empty. Dante gathers all of his supplies, deposits them into the nearby refrigerator. He closes its door when he hears movement from behind him.
Dante's eyes dart around. He spots a reflection in the reflective refrigerator's door: It's Anna peeking out from behind the doorway.
Dante clenches his jaw the sight of Anna. His hands slowly inch for his holstered gun.
DANTE
What are you doing here?
Anna's eyes widen. She opens her mouth, but closes it.
DANTE(CONT'D)
I asked you a question.
Anna gingerly makes her way into the room. Her eyes

ANNA
I don't know.
DANTE
Don't lie to me!- I swear I'll kill you.
Dante advances on Anna, who back peddles until she hits the wall. He brings the barrel of his gun up to Anna's face. She closes her eyes in anticipation.
ANNA
I'm not!
Anna pants heavily. Her eyes shut tightly closed.
ANNA(cont'd)
I swear. I didn't come to hurt anybody- I- I just needed a place to hide!
Slowly, Anna opens her eyes. Dante stares at her. They lock eyes. He calms down, lowers his gun to his side.
DANTE
Hide?- From who?
ANNA
I- I don't know- These men...with

I was so scared they were going to get me.
dante
What the hell's wrong with you? Why'd you have to bring them here?! To our- My home!
ANNA

Anna watches Dante as he moves to a nearby window. He gazes outside. No one in sight.
DANTE
Did anyone of them see you come into this town?- Come in here?
Dante glances at Anna. She shakes her head furiously.
ANNA
I- I don't think so- They were in the creek when I last saw them.
dante
Crap...
Suddenly, Dante holsters his gun, grabs his rug sack from the table, heads to the refrigerator. He packs all the supplies back from the refrigerator back into his rug sack.
Anna watches him. She frowns.
ANNA
Wha- What are you doing?
DANTE
Packing. You might want to do the same before whoever you pissed off comes here.
ANNA
(beat)
Can I come with you?
Dante ignores her.
ANNA(cont'd)
I don't have anywhere else to go.
DANTE
You got yourself this far- You'll be fine on your own.
With the supplies pack. Dante slings the rug sack over his shoulder before heading out.

The short story, “The House on Mango Street” is a fiction writing focused on a family as they move from house to house. The story is written by Sandra Cisneros. This paper will focus on three literacy elements that are significant in “The House on Mango Street.” Literacy elements are important, in fiction writing, because the different components allow the author to become more creative within their writing. The first literacy element that will discussed in this paper is the point of view, the second element will be the theme, and the last element will describe important symbolism throughout the story.
In the vignette titled “Hairs”, the narrator, Esperanza, compares the diverse hair found in her family. For every member, their hair is unique and individual amongst others. Her fathers is wild, her own is untamable, her brother Carlos’s hair is straight, her sisters Nenny’s is smooth, and Kiki’s is furry. However, her mother’s hair is special. To Esperanza, her mother’s hair is comforting, sweet, and soothing. The way Esperanza views her mother’s hair, is similar to the way a child in general views their maternal figure-- a loving, warm, and caring presence. Through this excerpt of the novella, it is seen how much Esperanza loves her mother and how she, and the rest of the family, are associated with pleasant memories. Another side of Esperanza seen in this section, is how she
While reading the book The House On Mango Street, the author Sandra Cisneros shows a
Conflicts are a part of many peoples' everyday lives. Some are big and some are small. Some involve death and some involve an argument. The purpose or argument for my topic is to prove that all conflicts/problems are important and everyone has a conflict at some point in their life. My thesis states that a conflict is some kind of a problem or quarrel; many people have these, no matter what age or race. My 1st reason is that people might have mixed feelings about your conflict, but you won't. For example, Esperanza says, "Bricks are crumbling in places and the front door is swollen you have to push hard to get in" (4). This quote illustrates that Esperanza's house is a problem because it's old and falling apart. Some people might not think that this is a conflict because they themselves might not have a house at all!!! However, some people might want to help. My next reason is, as you get older, your conflicts might get bigger. Esperanza says, "Aunt Lala said she found a job for me and to show up tomorrow saying I was a year older" (54). This shows that it is hard for Esperanza to get a job without lying. Obviously, she is too young to have a job. My last reason is death and abuse are major conflicts because they hurt people physically and emotionally. For example, Sally is having a very hard life, "Sally got married she likes being married except sometimes her husband gets mad and once he broke a door she is afraid to go outside without his permission" (101-102). This shows that Sally is having a big conflict and its hurting her personal life.
The House on Mango Street shows the emotions of a little girl who moves into a real house for the first time. It is narrated by the little girl who explains why she is unhappy with her family's choice. While she feels as if she should be happy she knows that this is not what her family and herself want. The narrator feels that the house is not what she wants and that the house is not what they deserve.
There are multiple lessons we learn throughout the years we live, whether it be from a book or our friends and family. The book The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, is the coming-of-age story of Esperanza Cordero who goes through the hero’s journey. Throughout Esperanza’s life of living on Mango Street, she discovers the many realities life has to offer. Esperanza learns that sexual attention is dangerous and unwanted, to not stop what she is doing if she feels like she does not belong, and some things in life are not what you expect it to be through her own experiences and the experience the people and things around her go through.
