Being the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates had already made millions of dollars while also becoming more and more famous for his work with computers. So it came as no surprise when he took over his father’s previous foundation called the William gates Foundation and renaming it the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation in 1997. Quickly donations were made to many universities and colleges such as the University of Washington. They were awarded a donation of twelve million dollars. The Gates Foundation also contributed two million dollars to the Seattle Area YMCA, twenty million dollars to the Seattle Public Library, and one million dollars to the Tacoma Art Museum. The Gates also devised plans to improve public education as well as attacking global issues. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation started in 1997 when the Gates family read an article about the millions of children in poor countries who were dying from disease. They have been working to reduce poverty and poor health throughout the world ever since as well as create a better world for both future and present generations. The Gates Foundation is one of the few truly transparent organizations in the world where no money is going into the pockets of the founders. The two founders of the foundation are Bill Gates, who is the co-chair and a trustee, and his wife Melinda Gates, who is also, serves as co-chair and trustee. Other trustees are Warren Buffet and William Gates Sr. Several others work for the organization as both permanent staff and volunteers. We will be looking at their areas of focus, strategies, and main goals. We will also review how they give out grants and their overall effectiveness ("Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.").
...ion for a long time and The Gates foundation is trying to change that. Melinda calls it “My life’s work” (5 Bill and Melinda Gates). Bill stated that the reason he is so generous is “Money has no utility to me … its utility is entirely is getting the resources out to the poorest in the world”(Tweedie).
Gates’s idea regarding philanthropy due to the fact that upon setting up his foundation in 2000, he already was aware of the widespread criticism of existing programs to help the less fortunate. Moreover, successful programs, such as the Green Revolution, were overshadowed by growing awareness of their negative side effects on the environment and local cultures. Mr. Gates had growing awareness of such limits sparking new ideas on how businesses could approach poor countries. However, there is little evidence of benefit from the $2.3 trillion given in foreign aid over the past five decades. For example, all the aid given to Africa over the years has failed to stimulate economic growth on the continent. One might argue that there are just as many needy individuals in America, why not try to critically think of way to innovate to embody the struggling Americans, rather than poor countries around the
Gates showed an interest in computer programming at a very young age, spending all of his free time creating programs on the teletype terminal computer his school had donated. Gates went on to create Microsoft and develop the Windows operating system, which continues to be tremendously popular. Bill Gates is, like many other famous entrepreneurs, also known for his philanthropic activities, donating very large amounts of money to charitable organizations and scientific endeavors. Gates established the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000, a private philanthropic foundation dedicated to reducing poverty, enhancing health care, improving education opportunities, and providing access to technology worldwide.
Bill Gates is now helping people in developing countries get water and an education full time. He created what is called the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. “In 2008 he left the company to devote himself full-time to his charity the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation”(Harris 1). He has worked his whole life to get the success and money that he has today and instead of keeping it to himself he has given it back to society in many generous ways. He also is helping developing countries with their needs that aren't accessible to them. “They helped vaccinate African and Asian children against diseases like polio and malaria. And they have been very successful in helping get rid of these diseases for good.”(Harris 1). This foundation helped poorer countries get the medical help they need to get rid of illnesses that should have already been gone by now. Bill and his wife had had an impact on the world by doing these things
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Nations Foundation are both involved in the development of global health policies and evaluation of health care and health systems. The main focus of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is advancing science and technology to deliver vaccines, drugs, diagnostics, and new affordable and reliable solutions. The United Nations Foundation focuses on a wide range of global health problems, including: decreasing childhood mortality, improving disaster relief, protecting the diverse culture and environments, creating a clean energy future, and empowering women and girls. Even though both of these organizations focus on improving global health, each of them has their own purpose and business structure. Four program areas make up the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

This has helped him achieve not only the status of one of the world's greatest entrepreneurs, but also a man who ultimately cares about the future of society, which is reflected in new product developments and technologies, all of which are designed to make our lives simpler.
So here I present you the path that gave us the Bill Gates we have today. Firstly, Bill Gates was fortunate enough to be born in a fine and educated family, where his parents were an educator and a lawyer. He had the privilege to all the essential necessities, such as clothing, food, and water sources which many other kids do not have. Although Gates started Microsoft as a small business based on a single innovative software program that he had helped to develop, his business acumen were his real genesis. Because he was a long-time CEO of Microsoft, he was able to borrow and integrate other computer programmers’ innovations and sell them to a new and expanding home computer market. Ten years after Microsoft was founded (1985), the computer market had $140 million in revenue, which grew to $28 billion by 2002. As one of the pioneers of home computing, Gates proved himself to be a technological visionary and software applications guru.
