Biography of Bill Gates
William (Bill) H. Gates, he's a man of few words, many ideas, and he’s
the richest man on Earth. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in
Seattle Washington. His father was an attorney and his mother was a
school teacher. (Bill Gates, 1) Bill excelled in school, at Lakeside a
private school. (Dickson, 91) At Lakeside he got his first encounter
with computers, and it’s there that he first learned to program.
Lakeside had a pretty big budget so they bought a computer for
the kids to play on. Many children took turns playing on it, but some
got known as the “computer nerds”. Bill Gates was one of them. Another
one was Paul Alan who played a large roll in the development of
Microsoft, a multi-billion dollar business. Bill and his programming
friends started up a club at Lakeside just for programming. They would
make programs and sell them. At one point Bill was kicked out, but was
quickly invited back in because his superb business skills were needed
to make profit. Bill made his first program when he was thirteen years
old, it was a tic-tac-toe program. (Dickson, 15) Since then he has
advanced rapidly. One of his first big programs has “Traf-o-data,”
which monitored traffic at stop lights. This program never really hit
it big. At this time the government wasn’t interested in investing
money in computers, but Bill saw a great future for them.
When Bill graduated from Lakeside he started attending Harvard
University. (Dickson, 91) There Bill found people who were smarted
then him, something that he never found at Lakeside. Yet Bill rarely
attended class, he was too busy starting up his business involving
computers. A personal computer called MITS Altair had just come out,
but it had no OS (Operating System). So Bill and Paul Alan set out to
make one before any other company. They made an OS called BASIC. It
could do simple task such as add, subtract, multiply, and divided;
programs for the Berkeley UNIX system. At the time, he was in England far from
In 2009, African-American Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. came home after a business trip in the middle of the night and found his door jammed shut. A neighbor saw that Gates and his driver were trying to open the door and called 9-1-1 to report a potential burglary to the police. Upon the police arriving, a confrontation ensued, leading to Gates being charged with disorderly conduct. After his arrest, Gates went to the media and claimed that he was a victim of racism. Even though many did not agree with Gates’ interpretation that the policeman’s actions were due to racism, the backlash came from an unexpected group: other African Americans. Although Gates went through a negative experience, many
After having helped found what would be the world’s most popular and largest software company in 1975, Bill Gates officially found himself to be the richest man alive at the ripe, young age of only thirty-one. Gates had never imagined that the thirteen year old boy who loved to program computers in his parent’s garage would one day find himself to be considered the world’s wealthiest man alive, having a total net worth of $76 billion. Having began on his own, tinkering with computers and computer software, Gates later created the seed of Microsoft, or what was originally called Traf-O-Data in the summer of 1972. (Fast Facts) It wasn’t until two years later, with the help of his co-founder, Paul Allen that Microsoft was born, transforming the technological world in ways that the people had never seen. The birth of Microsoft changed the ways of old computers, making way for faster newer and more innovative technology, along with bringing on a strong competition with their rival company, Apple Inc. With this grand cooperation, Bill Gates was also accumulating a large mass of money, gradually finding himself to top the charts of the Forbes World Billionaires List. (Fast Facts) Despite being well known for his contributions to Microsoft, Bill Gates’ most profound impact on the American culture was in medical and educational advances provided by The Gates foundation, paralleled by his philanthropic views and aid in the lives of the both poor and wealthy.
Bill Gates has had a mammoth effect not only in America, but also the world. Bill Gates is the man people credited for creating the success of Microsoft, and the Xbox gaming console. However, Forbes magazine says, “The world will remember Bill Gates”(Forbes). Yes, the world will remember Bill Gates not because he was the richest man in the world for 14 years straight (Forbes), but because of all his efforts overseas and how he encourages other wealthy people to share their money with the less fortunate. If we look just in our own houses we see the effects of Bill Gates, almost every computer has Microsoft word and PowerPoint. I have known and heard about Dr. William Gates, who is also known as the World’s entrepreneur Bill Gates. Personally, I am inspired by Dr. Gates’ personal accomplishments as well as his efforts to positively impact the lives of many people. His generous donations have helped and saved many people suffering infectious diseases. I have been greatly influenced by his commencement speech as he graduated with an honorary doctorate at Harvard University in 2007. In his speech, Dr. Gates not only was to commence on the graduates, but also to bring awareness to the audience of the World’s existing problems. He appropriately brought up the issue of inequities during the commencement because as the speech was for the graduates, Mr. Gates believed these people are more capable of making the changes for the world. These people are about to start their life journey, thus it is important for them to see the issues lying ahead to make positive impact for the future.
Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful, that's what matters to me. - Steve Jobs.
Bill Gates has to learn play spontaneously or just let his hair down. It is hard for him tends to inhibit that side of his by being too self-conscious. He too concerned with the impression that he is making. Bill Gates always work very hard at all times such as some sport or creative medium in order to success, for what he wants, very much to be noticed, acknowledged, and recognized as special in some way. Although he may indeed be outstanding, Bill Gates needs to learn to relax and enjoy himself without worrying what other people will think.
In the garage of a neighbor Steve Wozniak created what would be called the cream soda computer. Named that after all the cream soda he drank while building it. While building it he met a man named Steve Jobs. Although the computer went up in smoke during a test the basic groundwork was laid for a machine that would change the world was set and a friendship that would turn into a new industry. After the introduction of the Altair an organization sprang up of hobbyist and amateurs. It was the Homebrew Computer Club and of course Steve Wozniak went to the meetings and rarely if ever missed one of them. It seemed the Altair used a costly microprocessor, the Intel 8080, to do its thinking. Since Woz couldn't afford the 179 dollars per chip he jumped at the offer Hewlett Packard offered its employees.

Joel Dinerstein, a professor at Tulane University, along with Frank Goodyear, a photographer scholar, shaped the “American Cool” exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery in the nation’s capital. They selected 100 coolest Americans based on original artistic vision, cultural rebellion, iconic power, and a recognized cultural legacy. There is no such thing as a “born leader”. Human, animals, trees, and all of other living things survive and develop by earning and acquiring information needed. Nothing could receive the current position or status from an automatic mode.
