I have known and heard about Dr. William Gates, who is also known as the World’s entrepreneur Bill Gates. Personally, I am inspired by Dr. Gates’ personal accomplishments as well as his efforts to positively impact the lives of many people. His generous donations have helped and saved many people suffering infectious diseases. I have been greatly influenced by his commencement speech as he graduated with an honorary doctorate at Harvard University in 2007. In his speech, Dr. Gates not only was to commence on the graduates, but also to bring awareness to the audience of the World’s existing problems. He appropriately brought up the issue of inequities during the commencement because as the speech was for the graduates, Mr. Gates believed these people are more capable of making the changes for the world. These people are about to start their life journey, thus it is important for them to see the issues lying ahead to make positive impact for the future. First of all, I found his speech interesting because of his use of self-examples to deliver to the audiences the message of how he could succeed. This is influential because his stories are real, connect to other
Gates for his commitment to help the people who have been suffering from infectious diseases. Dr. Gates has been known as one of the world’s great philanthropists, who have made extraordinary donations to various charitable organizations and scientific programs around the world. Even it was a commencement speech, Dr. Gates truthfully wanted to share about his thoughts and concerns for the unfortunate victims of infectious diseases. In his speech, he had sincerely informed and persuaded the audiences to take action to solve the alarming issues. Dr. Gates confessed, “As I left Harvard with no real awareness of the awful inequities in the world-the appalling disparities of health, and wealth, and opportunity that condemn millions of people to lives of despair” (Powell,
He took a stand to make a difference in something he was passionate about and he urged the American people to do the same. He made the audience realize that even if this law is passed there will always be times that We the American people will also have to take a stand to do what’s right. His speech is so well written it makes it seem like the only option is to vote for the law to be passed. In a way this speech inspired me to take a stand when something wrong is happening and make a difference. Living in a time period where this was a big issue would have been hard but, I think it needed to happen to show the world that just because your skin color or religion we are all American people and we all need to work together to make this place
Bill gates launch by talking about his experiences at Harvard and relates with the student, while also making jokes about him not graduating. It was not exactly clear what the tagline was of this speech was but a line that really stuck with me as if you believe all humans are equal then why aren't some getting the medicine that they need. He talks about how the reason that they aren't getting the medicine they need is that they don't have any economic power but we do and we need to use our economic power to help them. He gave everyone a call to action to help those who are less fortunate than you. I think in this speech he uses a lot of ethos and pathos. This is because in this scenario he doesn't really need to give facts, instead he talks about his experiences.
Bill Gates has had a mammoth effect not only in America, but also the world. Bill Gates is the man people credited for creating the success of Microsoft, and the Xbox gaming console. However, Forbes magazine says, “The world will remember Bill Gates”(Forbes). Yes, the world will remember Bill Gates not because he was the richest man in the world for 14 years straight (Forbes), but because of all his efforts overseas and how he encourages other wealthy people to share their money with the less fortunate. If we look just in our own houses we see the effects of Bill Gates, almost every computer has Microsoft word and PowerPoint. In this paper, we will talk about all the impact Bill Gates has had not only in America but also the world.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation started in 1997 when the Gates family read an article about the millions of children in poor countries who were dying from disease. They have been working to reduce poverty and poor health throughout the world ever since as well as create a better world for both future and present generations. The Gates Foundation is one of the few truly transparent organizations in the world where no money is going into the pockets of the founders. The two founders of the foundation are Bill Gates, who is the co-chair and a trustee, and his wife Melinda Gates, who is also, serves as co-chair and trustee. Other trustees are Warren Buffet and William Gates Sr. Several others work for the organization as both permanent staff and volunteers. We will be looking at their areas of focus, strategies, and main goals. We will also review how they give out grants and their overall effectiveness ("Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.").
This is a notable speech for the most obvious reasons. Martin Luther King used eloquent language to describe and acknowledge terrible events. This language influenced people to be a positive factor in the resolution of the very important issue of racism and oppression.
Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful, that's what matters to me. - Steve Jobs.
Students tend to still major in liberal arts against all current employment trends because students are focusing too narrowly on their careers and others tend to follow what they love even with the consequences of the job popularity within the job market for liberal art majors.
When most people hear about Bill Gates the first thing that comes to mind is the obscene amount of money he has made through out his career. Owning many different foundations, the most common foundation known to most college students is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that provide many different scholarships. However, this foundation also does various things to give back to communities and aiding suffering countries. Within this foundation there are also various branches such as the United States Program, The Global Development Program and the Global health program that have grown over time making the Gates a commonly used household name.
Gates’s idea regarding philanthropy due to the fact that upon setting up his foundation in 2000, he already was aware of the widespread criticism of existing programs to help the less fortunate. Moreover, successful programs, such as the Green Revolution, were overshadowed by growing awareness of their negative side effects on the environment and local cultures. Mr. Gates had growing awareness of such limits sparking new ideas on how businesses could approach poor countries. However, there is little evidence of benefit from the $2.3 trillion given in foreign aid over the past five decades. For example, all the aid given to Africa over the years has failed to stimulate economic growth on the continent. One might argue that there are just as many needy individuals in America, why not try to critically think of way to innovate to embody the struggling Americans, rather than poor countries around the

Bill Gates is now helping people in developing countries get water and an education full time. He created what is called the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. “In 2008 he left the company to devote himself full-time to his charity the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation”(Harris 1). He has worked his whole life to get the success and money that he has today and instead of keeping it to himself he has given it back to society in many generous ways. He also is helping developing countries with their needs that aren't accessible to them. “They helped vaccinate African and Asian children against diseases like polio and malaria. And they have been very successful in helping get rid of these diseases for good.”(Harris 1).
