As the Hubble telescope’s life comes to a historic end, we look back at all it has done for the scientific community. The Hubble has helped scientists make many new discoveries about our universe. Galileo Galilei and Edwin Hubble were huge contributes to the astronomical community, therefore a major help in transforming the first telescope into something as amazing as the Hubble. The first telescope was perfected by Galileo in 1609, and around four hundred years later the Hubble was launched into space. Since then the Hubble has shown scientists many new discoveries about space that they would have never been able to figure out without the Hubble’s help. Since April 1990 the Hubble telescope has been greatly appreciated by the scientific community because of everything it has done. However, the Hubble has faced many problems along its way as well.

In 1608 Hans Lippershey looked at Jupiter through a thin tube shaped object similar to a telescope. Galileo improved the telescope made by Hans in 1609 by adding a convex lens in the front. The telescope was built with a concave eyepiece and convex lenses. Telescopes were used for improving maps and figuring out the positions and motions of stars early on. Scientists believed that the bigger the lens of a telescope the better, so a man named George E. Hale had created a 100 inch telescope which was finished in 1917. Around the 1920s Edwin Hubble had looked through the telescope towards the sky and had discovered that our galaxy, the Milky Way, was not the only galaxy. He also discovered that our galaxy was expanding. Fifty years later the Hubble was funded to be built. The Hubble was supposed to be launched in 1983, but didn’t end up going into space until 1990. NASA launched the Hubb...

...e Hubble would never have been made without Galileo perfected the original telescope. Also, the telescope has come a very long way from what it used to be. The thought of having a telescope in space able to take pictures of celestial objects outside of the Milky Way never even came close to crossing scientists minds. All the pictures the Hubble has taken have been released to the public allowing people of all ages to marvel at their beauty. Many people enjoy looking and learning from the photographs. In the future the James Webb Space Telescope will hopefully further scientists knowledge about space. The Hubble had executed its tasks perfectly even though it had some troubles along its way. The James Webb Space Telescope will hopefully live up to the expectations the Hubble has set with the astounding contributions to astronomy and science that the Hubble had made.
