Cosmology is the research of the history and development of the universe. The universe is ever expanding and humanity may never discover all it’s secrets. Cosmology has, however helped us understand a lot more about how the universe is the way it is now. There are many tools and instruments used in cosmology, such as the Hubble Space Telescope. This essay will discuss how the Space Hubble Telescope works, and which parts play which role in discovering news things about the universe and space. The physics and workings of the tools inside this instrument will be explained. What this space telescope helps us discover about the universe and the reliability of that found knowledge will also be discussed and assessed.
The Hubble Space Telescope, named after Edwin Hubble, is an operational telescope orbiting outside the earth’s atmosphere at about 600 km above the surface of the earth. Funded for construction in the 1970s and built by NASA, it was scheduled to launch in 1983. Due to technical difficulties the eventual launch was on the 25th of April, 1990. The Hubble Space Telescope is known as the most useful cosmology tool in use today.
The Hubble Space Telescope is made up of five main parts. The diagram on the right marks these on the instrument. The communications antenna sends back the images made with the telescope. It also receives instructions sent by the cosmologists controlling it from earth. The communication antenna sends these instructions to the control and pointing systems, which move the telescope to the desired position. The solar panels on the side power the telescope. In space, the solar panels can absorb more energy from the sun, due to there being less interference from the earth’s atmosphere. The energy from th...

...n space came to be how they are now, and to find more about how the universe develops. This telescope is also very environmentally friendly, as it only uses energy from the sun. However, the process of launching this space instrument did cost about 1.5 billion US dollars. After its launch there were also many unforeseen technical difficulties. Five servicing missions were organised to repair the space telescope.
The effectiveness of this space telescope in the knowledge and information it has given humanity cannot be measured by money. The quality of the telescope is very high, as it is outside the earth’s atmosphere, which is known to block light. That is why telescopes on earth are usually on high mountains where there is thinner atmosphere so as to produce clearer pictures. As the space telescope is in space, the interference of the atmosphere is non-existent.
The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory or SOHO for short is a cooperative joint effort by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the U. S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The main mission of this project is to study the internal structure of the Sun, its extensive upper atmosphere, as well as to determine the origin and characteristics of the solar wind.

lifetime. Some of Edwin Hubble's greatest accomplishments were: Edwin Hubble proposed a classification system for nebulae, which are fuzzy little patches of light that are up in the sky. He discovered a variable star, called the Cepheid. It is located in the Andromeda Nebulae. Edwin Hubble settled decisively the question of the nature of the galaxies. Edwin Hubble's distribution of galaxies was determined to be homogeneous in distance. Edwin wanted to classify the galaxies according to their content, distance, shape, and pattern of brightness. By observing redshifts Edwin saw that galaxies were moving away from each other at a rate constant to the distance between them (this is known as Hubble's Law).
... not put a price on knowledge, and the advancement of the human race, and even if you did, the 7 billion dollar/year price tag on Hubble is nothing compared to some of the other things our country spends billions on. The Hubble Telescope has completely re-written everything we know about the galaxy we live in, and taught us things that will allow us to grow as explorers, and advance as a civilization, and continue to learn, and THAT is priceless.
...n 2012, the company announced that it would spend $5.2 billion in 2013 for equipment and facilities upgrades and exploration.
Just recently a major discovery was found with the help of a device known as The Hubble Telescope. This telescope has just recently found what many astronomers believe to be a black hole, After being focuses on a star orbiting empty space. Several pictures of various radiation fluctuations and other diverse types of readings that could be read from that area which the black hole is suspected to be in.
In the 1960’s NASA started to conduct studies into a large space telescope and after being denied funding multiple times because of the estimated $500 million price tag to build the Hubble telescope it finally received congressional approval in 1977, after reducing the estimated cost to $200 million. Five companies were awarded contracts to begin work on the Hubble telescope. Marshall Space Flight Center did the design, development and construction of the Hubble, Goddard Space Flight Center designed, developed and constructed the science instruments, Perkin-3lmer Corporation built the telescope assembly and Fine Guidance Sensors, Lockheed Martin built the structure and supporting systems and also put the telescope all together and tested it. People have been venturing out into the universe for many years now. In addition to satellites, both women and men astronauts have traveled into space to collect data about the universe. The first human being, the first animal, and the first spacecraft in orbit, were all achievements of the Soviet Union.
Most people think that the costly downside to funding space exploration is a reason to avoid spending money on sciences and instead spend it on problems here on earth, but such funding for space exploration actually promotes economical as well as scientific benefits. Space exploration is an important expenditure for the high cost because of the potential for numerous benefits such as the possibility to find useful resources to cultivate, space exploration and satellites produce many thousands of jobs in our economy, and it creates and discovers newer and better technologies through research and development.
A telescope is a device used to magnify distant objects. Telescopes can be used to look at things on earth or at objects in space. The telescopes for use on the earth are known as terrestrial telescopes and the telescopes for looking into space are known as astronomical telescopes.
One thing us humans have never been able to fully understand is astronomy. Always an unexplained mystery, astronomy also serves as a way to keep time and predict the future. The word “astronomy” is defined as the study of heavenly bodies, meaning anything in the sky such as stars, galaxies, comets, planets, nebulae, and so on. Many people, if not everyone, are amazed by the night sky on a clear, moonless night. Astronomy dates back to ancient times when peoples such as the Babylonians, Egyptians, and Chinese kept written records of astronomical events and occurrences.
“Sheltered as we are by Earth's atmosphere and magnetic field, which deflect lethal radiation from space, we are like coddled children who have never ventured into a tough neighborhood” (Folger 2). Humans have been fascinated with space since the beginning of our time. Just like children and rough neighborhoods, we have tackled obstacle over obstacle to make it home again. In the end, we have a better knowledge and strength than before. The future of space exploration can assist us in answering the everlasting question of how the universe came to be. The more we explore the infinite galaxies, the more we can scientifically discover and create new technologies as science advances. As we continue to discover, we can create new fields and occupations for aspiring young students like myself.
This telescope is the result of an international collaboration of 17 countries lead by NASA, European Space Agency and Canadian Space Agency. It will help us determine the geometry of the universe and enable us to establish whether the universe will expand forever.
Ever since the beginning of time there have been stars. Not only stars in the sky, but moons, planets, and even galaxies! Astronomy is defined as the branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe as a whole. In other words it is the study of space, planets, and stars. Throughout the ages, many people have used astronomy to help them learn about the universe, our own planet, and even make predictions about life itself. Understanding astronomy means understanding where it originated, the different groups/cultures that used it, and modern purposes of the science of the stars.
Space has always been a pivotal and utmost important subject for many years. In the past, scientists have made monumental advances in this field such as sending people into orbit and landing a man on the moon. Of course, this has only barely been explored and we still have a lot more to see of the ever-vast outer space. One of the most significant topics of all of science has only been touched and there’s still more to come.
