Michael walked out of the restaurant like nothing and took care of his dad business from there. Ever since Michael started becoming like his father and he ignored his plans for the marines. While Michael defends his father from a second murder attempt Sonny becomes and acting Don Corleone (the godfather). Sonny got shot so many times by many men, when the father finds out about Sonny he cries and arranges a meeting with his people. Don Corleone then gets older and sicker to handle business, he gives advice to Michael about the business and Michael takes over his place. Don Corleone tells Michael that there is always going to be a traitor, to be careful and to never forget it. Michael thinks about it for a while. I would say that was a positively past event because Don tells his son that he should not trust anyone and to be careful. Michael attitude is similar to his father because whenever there is a difficult situation going on Michael takes it in a calm way and handles it without
The story begins as "Don" Vito Corleone, the head of a New York Mafia "family", oversees his daughter's wedding. His beloved son Michael has just come home from the war, but does not intend to become part of his father's business. Drug dealer Virgil Sollozzo is looking for Mafia Families to offer him protection in exchange for a profit of the drug money. He approaches Don Corleone about it, but the Don is morally against the use of drugs, and turns down the offer. Being this only request Don Vito has turned down, displease Sollozzo and has the Don shot down. The Don barely survives, which leads ...
The film’s opening scene is of Frank LoCascio asking John Gotti questions and speaking on his behalf of what it means to be in a crime family. Note, this is after he is sentenced to life in prison. Neil Dellacroce, John Gotti’s mentor, taught Gotti everything he knows. Gotti goes into great detail of what
The film The Notebook offers not only a form of entertainment but also different psychology concepts throughout the film. The Notebook is told from the point of view of an elderly man reading to a woman around his own age. He reads the story of two young lovers that come from differing backgrounds but fall in love. The young girl, Allie, is from a well-off family from the city that is visiting Seabrook Island for the summer. While the young man, Noah, is a poor country boy and that must work to make a living. They quickly fall in love but Allie’s parents disapprove of Noah due to his economic status. Once Allie leaves Seabrook, Noah writes her everyday but her mother hides the letters. The young lovers wait for one
They wear fancy suits, drive luxurious cars, and parade around with different women each day. Although being a gangster has some advantages, everything comes with a price. Tom and Matt were such successful gangsters that they attracted enemies from other gangs. The audience watches as Tom and Matt walk down the street, and suddenly gunshots are heard, Matt has been shot and killed. The audience may have assumed all the violence and tragedy would end there but the death of Tom only sparked a bloody mob war. This film was one of the first films of its time to show a mob war which were very common during the 1920s. Competition was one of the biggest parts of being a gangster. Al Pacino who played a famous gangster in the movie The Godfather says in the film, “Everybody loves you until you become competition.” Gangsters were perceived as powerful men who were above the law and who could handle anything, but that is not always the case, especially for Tom. In the end of the film, Tom reign as a gangster comes to an end. He wanted to get revenge for his friend Matt, but it only resulted in his death as well. Some people aren’t as tough as they think they
I believe the reason that, 'The Godfather', is such a great film is because it lets audiences decide whether they like the characters or not. Too many movies made about organized crime begin with some seemingly random act of violence. 'The Godfather', however, lets it be known from the start to judge the characters in the film based on what type of person they are instead of the criminal activities they may engage in.
The Godfather is the “dark-side of the American dream story” (Turan, pp2). The film follows the practices of a fictional Italian mafia family, the Corleone’s. Though most Americans do not condone the practices of the Italian mafia, they cannot deny that Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather is a cinematic masterpiece. This film gave insight to a mysterious way of life that the average person does not have knowledge of. As the audience is educated about the mafia they also are introduced to many stereotypes.
Have you ever stopped for a moment to contemplate where you are in life? If you haven’t, then take a moment right now to imagine where you are and where you would like to be. All of the actions you have taken, thoughts you have had, and the persona you convey have created the life you have lived thus far. In the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the main character Walter Mitty has a habit of daydreaming to escape his mediocre life for a more “enhanced” life where he fantasizes about a richer and more rewarding existence. Throughout the film, Walter is able to foster
The novel The Godfather is written about the Italian Mafia's influence on New York during the 1930's-1960's time period. It is the story of one crime family in particular The Corleones. This great tale of the Corleones rein is a realistic fiction novel written by Mario Puzo. The story itself takes place in New York where the Five Families run just about everything from who fishes in the ocean to what clothes you are available to you at the store. The Corleones at the time are the most powerful family controlling a lot of policeman and politicians. It all starts when a turk named Sollozzo comes around and tries to get legal protection from the Corleones for his new narcotics operation. Sollozzo's already got the Tattaglias behind them and secretly the most powerful family as brute force goes, the Barzinis. But the Greatest man alive Don Vito Corleone politely declines Sollozzos offer and tells him that they should have no problems because their businesses do not interfere with eachother. Well this leads to a the Don being shot down in the street. He's hit 5 times in the back but he lives on to settle the mob war that soon uprises.
On the other hand, his rival, Solozzo, uses his power to strong-arm his followers and reign terror upon his foes. He relies on his allies for support and wields that power to pursued others to help him. “Sonny will come after you with everything he’s got…You gotta talk some sense into him, the Tattalgia Family stands behind me with all their people.”
“Donnie Darko? What the hell kind of name is that? It’s like some sort of superhero or something.” (Donnie Darko 2001) This movie takes place in a space that does not exist in our world. This wondrous place is connected with wormholes, which is a passage to a parallel universe. There is one person who has the ability to travel through the wormholes. Donald Darko is a mentally ill teenager that happens to sleepwalk often and ends up outside in strange places, such as a field in the mountains. Sleepwalking genuinely saved his life, due to the fact that a jet engine landed in his room at night, but he was meeting his special friend for the first time. An imaginary friend named Frank, although he is not a typical friend. A six foot tall man in
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a film based on Jack Nicholson who plays a rebellious Randall P. (Douglas 1975) McMurphy who gets sent to a mental hospital because he was acting belligerent at the farm he worked on. After arrival at the mental hospital, he receives a psychological analysis from Dr. Speedy to determine if he is mentally ill. McMurphy goes in to the hospital thinking that he is sane, and will be out in no time, but the Doctor suddenly explains that he needs to be kept in the hospital until they can determine the necessary treatment for him. McMurphy displays many signs of antisocial personality including irresponsibility, disregard for others, impulsivity, and manipulation. (Nevid, Greene, Johnson,
In the movie “The Breakfast Club” there are several social psychological principles occurring during the course of the film. The film focuses on five students, Claire, Brian, Andrew, Allison, and John, or “Bender” as he more commonly referred to. The students arrive at their high school to serve a Saturday detention sentence. The central plot revolves around each of the characters personal lives, personal characteristics, and relationships, and how they each develop over the course of the film. While there are several social psychological principles that were present in the film the major principles that truly stood out included: the cognitive dissonance theory, stereotypes, and conformity. Each of these principles can be seen in several
The Godfather is most notably one of the most prolific films of its time. This "gangster" film displayed many transformations of permeating color to give the viewer observable cues in its mise en scene that drew one right into the movie. The dramatic acting set the tone of the film with a score that lifted the viewer right out of their seat in many scenes. The directing and cinematography made The Godfather ahead of its time. The nostalgic feel of family importance and the danger of revenge lets us into the life of the Mafia. Even though no other techniques would have given the viewer a feeling of inside the mob like the mise en scene of the power the godfather held, the characters are reinforced literally and figuratively because the story views the Mafia from the inside out, and the cinematography of the film gives it a dangerous and nostalgic feel.
My paper is based on an article from the text’s web site (chapter 9) entitled “Lack of sleep ages body’s systems.” The basic claim of the article is that sleep deprivation has various harmful effects on the body. The reported effects include decreased ability to metabolize glucose (similar to what occurs in diabetes) and increased levels of cortisol (a stress hormone involved in memory and regulation of blood sugar levels). The article also briefly alludes (in the quote at the bottom of page 1) to unspecified changes in brain and immune functioning with sleep deprivation.
