The film Gotti detail’s John Gotti’s rise within the Gambino crime family. His ranks from soldier to captain to becoming the boss. Throughout the film, they concentrated on the legal trials of Gotti: one for assault and two for racketeering under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, also known as RICO. Multiple scenes throughout the movie reflect on what we have learned in class and I will be discussing throughout the paper. The film’s opening scene is of Frank LoCascio asking John Gotti questions and speaking on his behalf of what it means to be in a crime family. Note, this is after he is sentenced to life in prison. Neil Dellacroce, John Gotti’s mentor, taught Gotti everything he knows. Gotti goes into great detail of what …show more content…
Castellano wants to do something about it because Gotti is causing attention to the family. He wants to whack Gotti and his crew. A good reason for doing so is because Angie is dealing drugs and Paul says a rule is a rule, “deal or die.” Gotti finds out about Castellano and his plan to whack him, so he arranges the murder of Castellano in front of Spark’s Steakhouse restaurant. In order to do so, Gotti has to have the full commissions permission. In the process, Dellacroce passes away which will make Gotti the boss. Gotti elects Sammy as the underboss. While catching all of the attention with the murder of Castellano and becoming the boss of the Gambino family, the FBI is devising a plan to take Gotti down by figuring out where he discusses business and bugging the …show more content…
The FBI find a way to get into the apartment and bug the place. Gotti and Franky LoCascio discuss the business that Sammy is running and how much money he is making. Also, talk about whacking Sammy for being selfish with the businesses. The FBI get everything they said on tape which was enough to arrest Gotti. The FBI and police pull up to the hang out spot and arrest Gotti, Sammy Gravano, and Franky LoCascio. Sammy listens to tape and knows he is screwed because Gotti is wants him dead. He then goes to the FBI and makes a plea deal to spill everything about the family, if he can get a lesser sentence and be in the witness protection program, “if I talk, I walk.” This works and Gotti gets sentenced to life in prison without parole for racketeering and murder. The life of the Gambino family will never be the
Thomas Reppetto’s book is a solid account of the events that took place between 1880 and 1995. The events are detailed and contain fact and evidence, he uses first hand knowledge, being a former chicago commander of detectives, Reppetto was well equipped to write this book. In American Mafia, and its rise to power, Reppetto shows the different parts of the mafia and their communication with the police and italian civilians. The book starts off showing the worst part of the mob, or mafia, and how bad they truly are. Using examples like how many people they’ve taken out and how they’d be one of the richest fortune 500 companies, ift was legal. The book also has how the police reacted to the crimes, in chapter one, they take you into the lives
In Mike Sager’s Death in Venice, Sager creates a vivid story about the gang in Venice as well as their addiction to cocaine. What I enjoyed about this article, was that it told a story in the perception of the gang members. It allowed me to see a glance through the lives of the gangs in the late twentieth century. Throughout the story, I felt multiple emotions, it ranged from disbelief to anger. It is astounding how Sager documented the lives of young males in Venice. As a Chicana, I was surprised by the actions in the article, I grew up in an environment where my daily life was not surrounded by gangs and drive-bys.
Rico gets started immediately and joins Sam Vettori’s gang and Joe gets a job as a dancer at a place called the Bronze Peacock. There Joe and his dance partner fall in love and passionately hug. However she finds his gun and asks him to leave his criminal life behind, he tells her that he wouldn’t be able to get away with it. The next scene is placed at the gangster Arnie Lorch’s gambling house where Sam Vettori and Rico are meeting Pete Montana. The gangsters discuss business and say that the next hit has to have no killing. Montana tells Rico this and tells him to take it easy with his gun.
The film that interested me for this assignment was “Boyz n the Hood”. The movie was about a Los Angeles neighborhood expanding of drug and gang culture, with increasingly tragic results. It was about how one teen had family support to guide him on the right path in life regarding the social problems around him. The other two teens in the film wasn’t as fortunate and fell into the social problems of drugs, violence, and gangs; where one ended up dead.
Philadelphia is the heights rat of crim in the USA over 30-40 homicides crimes per month and drug related crimes. This links in with the other text that we are looking at, the novel “Damage done” and how is shows that sometimes facts get in the way of a good story. This all promotes the current view Australia has one drugs, the way that there is supposably an ice epidemic happing. This document follows Theroux around Philadelphia’s drug action streets while he does interviews with the criminals and follows the police around finding out what is really happing out on the streets of Philadelphia. Some events that where selected to promote this view to the audiences was the interview with the street boys, showing just how carpeted Philadelphia is how they talk of “code of silence – never snitch!”. There was all so the confronting images of the dead body left in the abandoned house, from a suspected over does on ice. The drug issue in Philadelphia is represented in way that it controls the streets nothing ever happens unless its drug related. These parts have been purposely highlighted throughout the documentary to get the most dramatic message across to the views, as dose the novel. Tis representation achieves the goal of getting the message across of how street gangs and drugs are becoming to rules the streets. This message impacts and effects the way the audients sees this type of action and making them believe that it is taking place all around them. This documentary is to inform and promote the understanding of these types of actions, this is all so done with some help of filming
Our team presentation focused on three Latino gangs, MS-13 (Mara Salvatrucha), the Mexican Mafia and the Los Surenos gang. My part of the presentation was to provide information on the type of crime these three gangs are known to commit. The crimes committed by the MS-13 gang are varied, violent, and take place all over the country. The FBI even put together a task force called the MS-13 National Gang Task Force in December of 2004 to try to put a stop to this gang’s activities. (www.fbi.gov). Los Surenos or Sur-13, originally based in Los Angeles, has also branched out from turf wars with rival gangs to “for profit”, violent crimes across the country. The Mexican Mafia has a similar story to tell as well in regards to gang crimes, which again range from respect crimes, and retaliatory violence to crimes for profit.
During the course of our class we have encountered plenty of important topics and vital information that is essential to the field of the Criminal Justice system. Such as; Crime and justice including laws, Victimization and Criminal behavior, Laws, Police officers and Law enforcement and the criminal justice system in itself. These topics are daily situations yet individuals are oblivious to what's going on and that in it can be a major problem to the community. On that note this paper will express the ignorance and selfish values of twelve individuals by fully explaining the movie "Twelve Angry Men"

The mafia plays a major role in the first Kick-Ass comic. The head of the Mafia is Johnny Genovese, also known as Johnny G., he is the father of Chris Genovese and has a lot of influence and money. As soon as he gets a hold of the fact that Hit-Girl and Big Daddy are killing his people he wants to see them dead, but he does not think that Kick-Ass could be a threat to him, as one of his men put it, “Kick-Ass couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag”(Kick-Ass, Chapter Four). After Hit-Girl kills Johnny G., some of the Mafia members change sides and want to help people instead of killing them, some former members, like Sal Bertolinni and his brother, even found Justice Forever as Colonel Stars and Lieutenant Stripes. However, most of the mafia
Organized crime has always been occupied with a negative label. Perhaps this is due to the constantly changing environment in America as well as the social state of its homeland, Europe. Our society is convinced that the so-called Mafia is a family of pure criminals, pimps, and murderers. Whatever the opinion, there is no doubt that the Mafia played a big part in the history of America and the way Americans view crime today. "The origins of the secret society known as the Mafia are believed to be as old as the 9th century" (Mafia History). During the 9th century, the Mafia's main purpose was to strengthen themselves against enemies, which invaded their homeland in Sicily. It was supposed to create a strong feeling of togetherness between all Sicilians. "This idea of family was carried through in the structure of the organization, which had a strong hierarchical layout" (Mafia History). The Mafia is said by many to have perhaps the best system of power, than any other group or government known today. One can compare a physical representation of the family almost to a family tree dated all the way back through many generations. Certain people operated the system, but without the help of the people with the less power, the Mafia would be very weak. To put it another way, a leader cannot lead without followers, and the followers cannot follow without leaders. This is why the Mafia was hard to overcome. Although when many think of the location of the Mafia, Chicago and New York often come to mind, but actually the Mafia has been traced back through 26 major cites in America. Within every city were many Mafia families each with it?s own government. "At the head of each family stood the Dons or Bosses. Next in line to the Dons was the Underbosses, who were second in command. Followed by the Consigliere or counselors. And last were the men who did the dirty work for the Mob, the Soldiers. The Soldiers were the one?s who would enforce discipline over both members and non-members through the use of intimidation, assaults, and murder" (Living Large 3). All the members of the society were expected to go through a ceremony that often was compared to the baptism ceremony. "The induction ceremony is the most important day of a mobster?s life, the day that they become full members of La Cosa Nostra" (Mafia Life). "The ceremony for the newcomers was som...
