What is a world without color, emotions, animals, and music? In the science fiction story of The Giver written by Lois Lowry, everyone and everything is the same. They have genetically modified people and climate control, so every day has the same weather. The readers enjoyed the book so much that it was made into a movie, directed by Phillip Noyce. Even though the book and movie are based on the same general topic, they are vastly different as evidenced by changes in characters, their relationships, and added or deleted scenes. First, while the characters in the book and the movie have some similarities, there are many differences in how they are portrayed. For instance, their occupations of the characters are not the same. As illustrated by, in the book Asher is the Assistant Director of Recreation, but in the movie he is a drone pilot. In the book this job did not even exist. For example, in the book, Jonas receives his rules just from a paper, and in the movie he receives it from a triangle that speaks from a speaker. Also, in the book, while Jonas leaves the community he rides his bike for miles and miles while he can’t even feel his legs. But in the movie, he steals a motorcycle and rides that until it runs out of gas, then he walks the rest of the way. Likewise in the ending of the book, Gabe points out search jets to Jonas, “Plane! Plane!” “sometimes even before Jonas had heard the terrifying noise” (212). However, in the movie, instead of jets there are couple of drones, flown by Asher, and they stop coming when they think Jonas is dead. In addition, in the movie there is a scene when Jonas kisses Fiona behind a bush, and in the book this scene does not exist. In addition, in the movie, Jonas and Fiona sled down a gigantic arch in the town square. But in the book this scene is nowhere to be

For example, Mama goes to the bank in the movie and is given a hard time about paying her mortgage, but this did not happen in the book. Another major difference is that the school bus scene, where the Logan kids played a trick on the white kids, was not shown in the movie, even though it was an important part of the story. There are some character changes as well. Lillian Jean, Jeremy, R.W, and Melvin are Simms’ in the book, but in the movie they are Kaleb Wallace’s children. However, the main plot difference is how the movie starts in the middle, summarizing everything from the first part of the book very briefly. Additionally, many scenes are switched around and placed out of order. Altogether, the plot and character changes contribute to my unfavorable impression of the

Usually movies try to take the story to a different level or by adding parts or just try to change it to a completely different story. Some of the differences between the movie as to the book are some little and large differences. They might also try taking little parts away that will change how the readers see the story characters. An example of that would be Walter not smoking in the movie (Pg 115). Walter usually smokes because he is stressed or just as a way to relax. Walter also does not get punched by Mam...

Throughout the history of the world, there has been many societies. All these societies had similar structures and ideas, but they all are different by their own special traditions and ways of life. Similarly, both our society and the society in The Giver share similar ideas, but they are different in certain areas. For example, they both celebrate birthdays and have family units, but they have their own way of doing so. Based on the celebration of birthdays and the formation of family units, our society is better than the society in The Giver by Lois Lowry.
This world lacks animals, color, and history excluding one person who holds all the knowledge and memories. Both of these novels aim for their people to be “happy” and for the government to be in complete control. One way both of these novels control their citizens is through emotions. In Brave New World, the citizens are encouraged to take a drug called Soma in

In the novel Code Talker, Ned Begay is looked upon differently since he is Navajo. As he took a liking to studying maps of islands, he was laughed at by the teachers and even students for being a Navajo who imagined traveling to far away places. Many major differences even change the meaning of the story. Some of the main differences in the movie include, there was no Battle of the Windmill, there was a different ending, and all of the pigs didn’t walk on two legs. The Battle of the Windmill was a major event in the plot of the book, but the movie failed to mention it at all. In the movie, it shows the windmill being blown up, but there was never an actual battle.
