The book of Nightjohn and the movie of Nightjohn are very different from each other. There are few similarities between the book and the movie. Usually most movies are similar to the book they were made about. This is not the case in Nightjohn. In this paper I will tell the differences and the similarities of the book and movie Nightjohn. In the beginning of the movie, Mammy, Sarny’s mother is shown giving birth to her. In the book, Sarny is first shown as a young child. In the movie Sarny’s mom is shown getting sold, leaving Sarny at the plantation without her mother. In the book, Sarny just talks about her mother not being there and Delie, who takes car of her now. Sarny thinks she is smart but she is actually dumb. In the book, Nightjohn comes to …show more content…
In the book, Waller sees Sarny writing the word “BAG” in the dirt and automatically knows that Nightjohn is teaching Sarny. He goes to Nightjohn and cuts off his middle toes. Nightjohn leaves in the middle of the night and promises Sarny he will come back. Sarny doesn’t believe him. The next day, Nightjohn comes back. The next night Nightjohn leaves with Sarny and takes her to an underground school for slaves, called Pit School where he teaches. Nightjohn tells Sarny soon she will learn all the letters. This is my view on the movie and book. I likes the movie better the book because the book was blander. The book did not catch my attention as much. The movie really caught my attention. The one think I think the movie missed was the Pit School. I think this was an important event and part of slavery that should have been shown in the movie. Even though I think they should have kept pit school in the movie, I think the movie as a whole was really good. I also with some of the movie characters were introduced in the beginning of the movie. That was a little confusing to me. I really liked the character of Nightjohn in both. He was
For example, Mama goes to the bank in the movie and is given a hard time about paying her mortgage, but this did not happen in the book. Another major difference is that the school bus scene, where the Logan kids played a trick on the white kids, was not shown in the movie, even though it was an important part of the story. There are some character changes as well. Lillian Jean, Jeremy, R.W, and Melvin are Simms’ in the book, but in the movie they are Kaleb Wallace’s children. However, the main plot difference is how the movie starts in the middle, summarizing everything from the first part of the book very briefly. Additionally, many scenes are switched around and placed out of order. Altogether, the plot and character changes contribute to my unfavorable impression of the
There are many differences in the movie that were not in the book. In the movie there is a new character in the movie that was not in the book. This character was David Isay.
While watching the movie, I could see that the main characters in the book, both their names and traits, were the same in both the movie and book. However, aside from that there were many different as...
Both book and movie capture good moments and ideas of Esquivel. I would say the book was more entertaining and memorable for me. The novel never rests or drags on, and although it evolves around many tragedies a dying love and lovers, in the end you truly feel happy for the way things turn to be. So does the movie, the end of it is very powerful, I might have not got attached to its characters but I fell in love with the magical fairy tale and romance of Like Water For Chocolate.
In conclusion, details involving the characters and symbolic meanings to objects are the factors that make the novel better than the movie. Leaving out aspects of the novel limits the viewer’s appreciation for the story. One may favor the film over the novel or vice versa, but that person will not overlook the intense work that went into the making of both. The film and novel have their similarities and differences, but both effectively communicate their meaning to the public.
As you can all see the movie for once is actually better than the book in showing the
... middle of paper ... ... Lastly, Sarty makes it to Spain’s house and warns him of his father’s intent.
The movie and the book are different in many ways but at the same time they have a lot of things in common, the movie doesn't have as much details as the book does but it is a very good movie. In the movie you can very easily see and understand what's going on being you are watching the whole thing with your eyes. The movie also shows you how the students have to fight each and everyday just so that they protect themselves in the streets, the streets is all they know because well they were born and raised in the streets so they learned all about it & are about it. In the movie you can clearly see the struggle they go through, and how the streets are & when they're in school. School is supposed to be a safe place for all kids.
Once a slave, Nanny tells of being raped by her master, an act from which Janie’s mother was brought into the world. With a
The book and the movie were both very good. The book took time to explain things like setting, people’s emotions, people’s traits, and important background information. There was no time for these explanations the movie. The book, however, had parts in the beginning where some readers could become flustered.
Boxer had once questions Squealer's actions. It also made it so the regular animals besides the pigs could not communicate to each other and trying to guess their feelings was not the easy. The movie had a few more differences.
From reading the book and watching the movie, I think the book was more insightful, but the movie was more entertaining. The only problem with the movie is that you don't know what is going through Chance's mind and his background information. The movie does help make some things clearer by seeing it, instead of just picturing it in your mind. The added scenes in the movie helps to put some humor into the story and make it more entertaining. By just watching the movie, some people could be confused if they don't know some background on Chance. I think that by reading the book, you can understand the story better and by watching the movie you can enjoy the story better.
was a spectacular film there were some things that I did not enjoy like, the
Furthermore, one of the main differences between the movie and the novel, Twilight, are the characters. Although both stories share the same characters and background information about the characters, there are differences in their
Another reason I like the book more is because the book tells you who the characters are. It was hard to find out in the movie
