The novel The Giver, by Lois Lowry, was published in 1993. The book, The Giver is about a dystopian society that has a lot of strict rules compared to an average place in the world today. Most of the people in the giver have no emotions, because they are trained that way. The protagonist is Jonas who is a average boy that was selected to be the receiver of memory for the people of the city. Fiona and Asher are his two best friends. Jonas discovers that everyone is mindless and that people are getting killed for reasons that don’t make sense. He doesn’t like this so he rebels and (add when you finish the book). He was always happy because he has no emotions. Jonas was not facing any problems. Jonas never saw color, only black and white. His vision and other people's vision was like a 1940’s movie. Jonas becomes the town receiver. Meaning that he was in the hands of people's memory.
By the middle of the novel, Jonas is feeling a lot more different than usual. Jonas is beginning to see dome color for the first time. Jonas is also starting to feel emotions. So he has feelings now. Jonas was also becoming worrying because things have been starting to get a bit sketchy to him. Like when he was greeted to a locked door. All the doors in the community were never locked so that was one moment when Jonas was uneazed.
In the end of the novel, Jonas finally gets what is going on. Jonas learns that releasing means death. So when a person gets released, they will get drugged with really bad drugs that can kill or maybe someone will kill you when you are a babie like what jonas dad did to gabriel’s brother. Because Jonas thinks this is wrong, he decides to run away from the city. Jonas gets a confused and scared look at his face when he learns that his father is killing inocent babies.
