In the book, “The Giver” ( made by Lois Lowry), tells of a boy named Jonas, his sister, Lily, his mother, his father and his friends living in a utopian society. Jonas’s mother and Lily usually have arguments wither on agreeing and/or disagreeing with each others thoughts, opinions and/or actions, such as “the birth-mother argument” towards Lily and Lily's mother. Lily thinks that birth-mothers are very interesting towards her actions and opinions while the mother thinks the opposite. The mother thinks that the assignment, birth-mother, has no honor. Lily’s perspective is that she loves the idea of not doing anywork besides birthing and she can be at most lazy, mostly because a 10 year old named Natasha, who does most of her volunteer hours

The book The Giver is about a Boy named Jonas who lives in a community. He lives with his little sister Lily and his mom and dad. He is 11 years old. In the beginning he tries describing the way he feels. He uses frightened but then realizes that frightened isn’t the right word to use. He says that frightened was the way he felt when an aircraft flew over the community after he knew that no aircrafts can fly over them. As he was at dinner with his family, they were sharing their feelings from that day. Lily describes her feelings as “very angry”. She was angry because a visitor boy that was at her daycare was cutting everyone in line for the slide. Then her father explains to her that maybe the little boy didn’t know that the slide had rules.

Responsibility comes with a lot of committed and you can never let anyone down. In the novel, the parents opt out of their responsibility for taking care of the children. The children learn to take care of themselves. They fed, clothed, and protected one another. The family lacks of responsibility and in contrast Jeannette struggles with knowing that her family represents a lack of moral responsibility. Jeannette ultimately chooses a more material and less idealistic notion of responsibility than her parents, but she also continued to try to understand why her family is unable to take responsibility for their own actions. Jeannette later on becomes responsible for her own actions and takes care of her younger brother and sister. As a result, she was faced with the challenge of responsibility and taking matters in her own hands. Responsibility is a daunting task that needs a lot of commit for and is a difficult challenge to overcome.
Throughout the history of the world, there has been many societies. All these societies had similar structures and ideas, but they all are different by their own special traditions and ways of life. Similarly, both our society and the society in The Giver share similar ideas, but they are different in certain areas. For example, they both celebrate birthdays and have family units, but they have their own way of doing so. Based on the celebration of birthdays and the formation of family units, our society is better than the society in The Giver by Lois Lowry.
In The Republic, Socrates idealized the perfect city. One of the aspects that he deliberated on was the raising of children and family structure. The conclusion reached by Socrates is that no parent will know his own offspring or any child his parents (457 d). It was Socrate's belief that the best atmosphere would be created in a communal upbringing of the city's children. In the same sense, he believed that they should take every precaution to insure that no mother knows her own child (460 c). Not even the mother, the traditional child-rearer, would be permitted to know or have a say in the lives of her own children, but in all of the children as a whole. Thou shalt not kill; one-tenth of what may arguably be the most famous guidelines of morality in the western culture, and also the main driving force for pro-life advocates. The argument supporting their beliefs typically starts with the premises that a fetus is a person, and to destroy or to kill a person is unethical. Therefore abortion, the premeditated destruction of a human being, is murder, and consequently unethical. I deny the fact that the fetus, what I will refer to as an embryo up to 22 weeks old, has the right to live. The opposing argument is invalid because a fetus, although perhaps a part of human species, is not formally a person. This leaves it simply to be a part of the woman?s body, whose fate lies solely in the hands of the pregnant woman alone, no different from a tumor she might have. By proving this, the abortion debate then becomes an issue of women?s rights, something that is most controversial indeed. Furthermore, it is fair to question the credibility of many people against abortion because of obvious contradictions in the logic of their belief systems. The fact that this debate is relevant in modern society is ludicrous since there is a simple and plausible solution to this problem that could potentially end the debate for good, leaving both sides satisfied.
The Giver provides a chance that readers can compare the real world with the society described in this book through some words, such as release, Birthmothers, and so on. Therefore, readers could be able to see what is happening right now in the real society in which they live by reading her fiction. The author, Lowry, might build the real world in this fiction by her unique point of view.

A community just like that lives inside of Lois Lowry’s The Giver and this lack of individuality shows throughout the whole book. This theme is demonstrated through the control of individual appearance, behavior, and ideas.
The Giver is actually one of my all-time favorite books, so I’ve looked into why she left the book so inconclusive in the past. The Giver is basically about a boy named Jonas who lives in a perfect society. He lives in a household with his two parents and his little sister Lilly. When he becomes a 12, he goes through a huge ceremony and all the elders assign them their jobs. In this community, there is no lying, stealing, racism, pain, sunlight or color. Jonas was chosen to be The Receiver, and he didn’t know what to do because this job was such a big deal. Jonas then goes through training with the current Receiver, who is now The Giver. Training consists of The Giver passing down the memories from when the community was not what it is today. Memories that are passed down are things that are normal to us. Memories of sun, snow, pain, and sorrow.
"Two Kinds" is a powerful example of differing personalities causing struggles between parent and child. In every parent-child relationship, there are occurrences in which the parent places expectations on the child. Some children fall victim to a parent trying too hard or placing expectations too high, or, in the case of "Two Kinds," a parent trying to live her life through that of her child. However, the mother is also a victim in that she succumbs to her own foolish dream that "you could be anything you wanted to be in America." Knowing that her own time has passed, she wants her daughter to succeed by any means necessary, but she never stops to think of what her daughter might want. She strictly adheres to her plan, and her overbearing parenting only leaves the daughter with feelings of disapproval and questions of self-worth. Lowry writes The Giver in the dystopian genre to convey a worst-case scenario as to how modern society functions. A dystopia is an “illusion of a perfect society” under some form of control which makes criticism about a “societal norm” (Wright). Characteristics of a dystopian include restricted freedoms, society is under constant surveillance, and the citizens live in a dehumanized state and conform to uniform expectations (Wright). In The Giver, the community functions as a dystopian because everyone in the community conforms to the same rules and expectations. One would think that a community living with set rules and expectations would be better off, but in reality, it only limits what life has to offer.
