It is important that every challenge life gives us should be encountered and resolved. Challenges are given to every human being, whether it be a dysfunctional family or a uniquely vibrant family we must face all that comes our way. We must face the daunting challenge of attempting to understand, forgive and to take responsibility, which is brilliantly attempted to do in the novel The Glass Castle. The challenge of understanding is very default. To understand someone you need to recognize what the other individual’s emotional state. In the novel, Jeannette and her siblings were faced with a journey and struggle of understanding her family. Responsibility comes with a lot of committed and you can never let anyone down. In the novel, the parents opt out of their responsibility for taking care of the children. The children learn to take care of themselves. They fed, clothed, and protected one another. The family lacks of responsibility and in contrast Jeannette struggles with knowing that her family represents a lack of moral responsibility. Jeannette ultimately chooses a more material and less idealistic notion of responsibility than her parents, but she also continued to try to understand why her family is unable to take responsibility for their own actions. Jeannette later on becomes responsible for her own actions and takes care of her younger brother and sister. As a result, she was faced with the challenge of responsibility and taking matters in her own hands. Responsibility is a daunting task that needs a lot of commit for and is a difficult challenge to overcome. In conclusion, the novel The Glass Castle was an attempt to represent the challenges we face throughout our life. Every challenge should be confronted and solved. Family matters contribute to why many individuals have difficulties, but at the end we should know that they’ll always love us. No matter what happens we face the unknown and deal with it.
