“If you're half Chinese, I'm half black. I'm your brother and I'm fly. You down with that, Snoopy? That's dope, innit?” (IMDB, 2007) Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) uses theses words in a scene during Rush Hour 3 to describe his friendship with Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker). The dynamic duo in the Rush Hour saga have been together since 1998 and their fictional friendship has become one to be rivaled with. The exceptional friendship that Lee and Carter share stems from their random arrangement with each other in the first Rush Hour movie, and their ability to take their experiences of risking their lives for others to form a close bond. The settings within the Rush Hour trilogy are main components of why Lee and Carter have been able to form the friendship that is exhibited in these movies. Being set in 3 different countries allows for the main characters to rely on each other when in their home environments. For example, Chief Inspector Lee is from Hong Kong whereas Detective Carter is from Los Angeles and neither has traveled to their friend’s respective country. Exploring what makes Inspector Lee and Detective Carter the best of friends can be illustrated through their differing cultures, travels around the world, and what made this $845+ million (Numbers, 2010) trilogy a hit.
Rush Hour begins in Hong Kong shortly after the British releases of Hong Kong to China. Inspector Lee is involved with a smuggling sting that will prevent the exportation of Chinese artifacts to different countries. Inspector Lee works under the impression that he can live up to his slain father’s name, who was murder in the line of duty as discovered in the Rush Hour 2. His unwillingness to give up no matter what the consequences is ...

...developed in the Rush Hour series to exist. Describing themselves as each other’s “brother from another mother” (IMDB, 2007) reveals how close two individuals can become after continuously watching out for each other. Lee and Carter’s friendship can be appreciated by everyone, especially those who find themselves in the same cultural situation. The Rush Hour series proves that friendships can and do exist across the board, from complete strangers to individuals who have known each other for years.

One of the most memorable friendships of the early 2000s is portrayed in the movie Napoleon Dynamite. When the two main characters Napoleon and Pedro meet, they become fast friends. Napoleon and Pedro stay loyal to each other throughout the entire movie, despite what others might think. This is similar to how John Steinbeck portrays friendship in his novella Of Mice and Men. The friendship between the main characters of the novella, George and Lennie, is unexpected. They choose to stand by each other regardless of society’s expectations. Through this, Steinbeck communicates the theme that a loyal friend can be a haven in a heartless world.

What is the meaning of the word “relationship”? Most of us hear this word every day, in other words “a state of affairs existing between those having relations and dealings. There are four types of relationships: couple, family, and friend. Most of the relationships can be difficult, romantic relationship seem to be the most complicated types. Sometimes two lovers can care for each others, yet they cannot talk to each others. When a problem occurs between two people for a long time, it most likely will get to a fight and most of the time to end the relationship. While watching The Break-Up movie, showed a lot of elements of the interpersonal relationships. The movie talked about two couple stayed together for a long time. And they started to fight about minor stuff that leads to end the relationship.
A hero is someone who is admired for his/her courage and his/her need to help others. Some examples of heroes are Spiderman, Superman, Ironman, Superwoman, and Batman. However, the real heroes are strangers that risk their lives to help others. The book, The Outsiders, shows several heroes that sacrifice their own safety for the greater good. This book centers around the gang, greasers, and the feud between the greasers and Socs. Three characters that show enormous courage and save multiple lives are Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally. In S.E Hinton’s The Outsiders, Johnny, Ponyboy, Dally emerge as heroes because they all risk their lives for another.
Hitch is about Alex “Hitch” Hitchens, the date doctor, who helps men get together with women who are out of their league or otherwise wouldn’t think about dating them. One of those men happens to be Alex Brennaman who is in love with Allegra Cole who happens to be his boss. Hitch is able to build up Alex’s courage and help him get the attention Allegra. At the same time Hitch is falling for Sara, who is a gossip columnist wondering who the new guy being seen with Allegra is. The movie is about falling love with the right person. With that right person often not noticing them. The key is communication between the two people, so then the person can get the attention needed.
To achieve this goal, he crafts a stylized capitalistic society that inflicts grave injustices upon his protagonists. The avarice inherent to this society governs everyday life within Street Angel. Xiao Hong, for example, lives with adoptive parents so corrupted by greed that they prostitute their older daughter, Xiao Yun. In a transaction that reflects the inhumanity of higher-level capitalism, these parents sell Xiao Hong to a local gangster. By juxtaposing the implications of this sale with Xiao Hong’s exaggerated innocence, Yuan appeals to his audience’s emotions, stoking anger toward social values that could enable such barbaric exploitation of the poor. Yuan employs a similar juxtaposition later in Street Angel, when Wang visits a lawyer’s office in a skyscraper – an environment so divorced from his day-to-day realities that he remarks, “This is truly heaven.” Wang soon learns otherwise, when the lawyer rebuffs his naïve plea for assistance by coldly reciting his exorbitant fees. The lawyer’s emotionless greed – a callousness that represents capitalism at its worst – contrasts strikingly with Wang’s naïve purity, a quality betrayed by his awestruck expression while inside the skyscraper. Again, this juxtaposition encourages the film’s audience to sympathize with a proletarian victim and condemn the social values that enable his
The main themes are that you shouldn’t judge people by their appearances. Just because you are rich and belong to a tough gang does not mean you are cruel like the other gang members. You shouldn’t carry any harmful weapons and should not escape from the police.
Friendship is one of the most important things in life, as S.E. Hinton says, “If you have two friends in your lifetime, you're lucky. If you have one good friend, you're more than lucky.” In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy and Johnny are good friends who help each other and have a lifetime friendship until Johnny dies.
Don’t judge people for their choices they make when you don’t know the options they had to choose from.” Before you have a perspective of somebody make sure you know their backstory. In the book, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, there are two gangs called the Greasers and Socs. The Socs have more opportunity and the Greasers get less opportunities. The Socs and Greasers don’t go well together and they have many fights and disagreements with each other except for two people. Cherry, a Soc, and Ponyboy, a Greaser, talk to each other and make really good friends. S.E. Hinton is trying to show the reader that a person's perspective of another person is not always accurate. This is shown by Ponyboy and Cherry realize they are not that different and
Tension between the African Americans and Caucasians have been present in America since slavery. In the movie Crash (2004), race and culture are major themes that can be seen in the lives of the characters in the film. One character in particular, Cameron, a prestigious color vision director, displays the friction between two cultures. He belongs to the educated, upper class of the Los Angeles area. He is also an African American, yet he seems to have no ties with that class. He has a light-skinned wife, attends award shows, and it appears that his acquaintances are predominately white. When he and his wife, Christine, get pulled over by a racist cop, he experiences emotions of powerlessness and helplessness that he never knew he would experience due to his upbringing and place in society. Cameron goes through a radical transformation where he comes to grips with his background and how he fits into these two clashing cultures.
Before reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton I didn’t expect it to be anything special, but now that I have, I am thoroughly impressed and have learned different lessons from it. One of the things I find most interesting about this novel are the relationships that are formed between characters. The relationship that I find to be the most interesting is the one we quickly see form between Cherry Valance and Ponyboy. With Pony being a greaser and Cherry being a Soc, these two finding a friend in one another is something not even they expected; for example, “ “ (Hinton ). I like this relationship in this novel because it goes against the social boxes the greasers and the Socs are confined to, with each tending not to mingle
In the movie, Ordinary People, the Jarrett family struggles through the grieving process, only worsened through poor communication. The family lost their oldest son in a boating accident, and then, suffering with survivor’s guilt, the other son attempts suicide. Through all these horrific situations, the family struggles to grieve because of poor communication and refusal to process the feelings. If they had utilized conflict management skills their communication could have improved and the emotions could have been released in a healthy way. Conrad Jarrett began the movie in silence but grew over time to communicate more effectively and process his emotions with the help of his friends, dad, and doctor. Beth Jarrett experienced complete denial about what happened. Calvin Jarrett, though not perfectly, tries his best to create genuine dialogue and guide his family through this difficult time.
The 1974 film Chinatown (U.S 1974, Roman Polanski) is about a private investigator, J.J Gittes, who was hired by a women impersonating Mrs. Evelyn Mulwray to investigate leads connected to her husband having an affair. J.J ends up meeting the real Mrs. Mulwray in the movie and learns about the sudden death of Mr. Mulwray. Once learning this, J.J quickly begins to realize that this case will be far different than his usual routine gigs. In the 10-shot sequence that I chose to evaulatue, multiple things take place. Firstly, J.J Gittes and Evelyn Mulwray are in the backyard of her mansion talking. Because of J.J’s injury during the altercation when a water department
Irony can often be found in many literary works. “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin is masterfully written full of irony. The characters of the short story, Mrs. Mallard, Josephine, Richards, Mr. Brently Mallard, and the doctors all find their way into Chopin’s ironic twists. Chopin embodies various ironies in “The Story of an Hour” through representations of verbal irony, dramatic irony, and situational irony.
