Over the last decade, the number of people in North America that suffers from obesity or is classified to be overweight has rapidly increased. Overweight and obesity are both terms used to classify ranges of weight that exceed what is considered to be normal and healthy for a given height. Both of these terms identify ranges of weight that have been proven to increase the chances of certain diseases or are related to other health problems. Lack of exercise has proven to be one of the leading factors for overweight and obese people. Exercise is defined as physical activity that requires muscular or cardiovascular effort to be carried out to improve health and fitness. An inactive lifestyle is one of the leading factors contributing to heart disease. Fortunately, it is under your control. There are many benefits to maintaining a physically active and positive lifestyle.
When a person engages in physical activity, they are burning calories at a more rapid rate than when they are sedentary. The more vigorous the activity that is performed, the greater the amount of calories burned. Exercise can help prevent weight gain and maintain weight loss. Statistics show that in 2009-2010, the portion of adults aged 20 years and over who are classified to be overweight, including obesity, was 69.2%. As of 2014, more than two thirds of U.S. American adults are overweight or obese. The rates of overweight and obese woman are higher for African-Americans and Latinas than Caucasians, and for men the rates are higher for Hispanic males than their Caucasian and African-American counterparts. A person doesn’t necessarily need to engage in intense physical activity to preserve their health by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Simple physical activ...

It was my decision to discuss the various benefits of exercising because I believe that exercising has a huge difference on my quality of life. Regularly exercising boosts my energy levels and strengthens the cardiovascular system allowing me to live a more positive and productive lifestyle. The rates of obesity and overweight have drastically increased in America due to the lack of physical activity performed, thereby severely increasing unhealthy weight gain. People who are obese or overweight have also been observed to show signs of insomnia, anxiety, and depression. All of these health problems can be avoided by maintaining a physically active daily routine.
Pate et al. (1995) stated that physical activity is needed for health promotion and disease prevention. They also stated that every adult should do at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise everyday if possible. Moderate intensity exercising includes activities such as brisk walking and cycling as stated by the Department of Health (2011). They also state that regular physical activity will improve a person’s mental health as it will increase self esteem and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Physical wellbeing is also enhanced by an increase in physical activity. The World Health Organisation (WHO) (2002) found that in developed countries 20% of heart disease and 10% of strokes are due to physical inactivity. Furthermore a lack of physical activity is found to cause 3% of all diseases.
When people realize that maybe they are starting to become more overweight or gain a few pounds they may ask themselves, “Whatever I’m fine” or they might say, “Maybe I should start going to gym and exercise”. Those same people then go find a gym near their home, sign up for a gym membership, and maybe go for about a week. Then probably just quit after trying for a month. In the article “Why Exercise Won’t Make You Thin” published in Time Magazine on August 09, 2009 by John Cloud shows that exercise is not really needed. In this article Cloud describes to his readers his personal experience going to the gym and exercising. He believes that exercise is not worth the time and that it does not help people lose weight; it actually makes them gain weight and struggle even more. In the article Cloud connects with readers that either do not work out, or had the thought about working out. He

The healthcare community defines obesity as being 20 percent or more over a person?s ideal body weight, which is based on their height (?U.S. Health Professionals?? np). Usually this is 100 pounds or more over their ideal body weight. Researchers found that the two main causes of obesity are the overabundance of food and people?s sedentary lifestyles (?U.S. Health Professionals?? np). Other causes include genetics, lifestyle choices and environmental factors. These alarming statistics have prompted many to seek a solution for a problem that is clearly not going to go away by itself.
The benefits of exercise extend far beyond weight management. Research shows that regular physical activity can help reduce your risk for several diseases and health conditions and improve your overall quality of life. Regular physical activity can help protect you from the following health problems.
Overweight and obesity are a direct result from consuming more calories (energy) than we expend on a day-to-day basis. Occasionally eating more than our bodies need will not cause us to be overweight, however for most Americans daily over consumption is common. Simply put, our bodies needs calories from food in order to keep it running. However, as Americas life style has become more sedentary and there is less and less access to outdoor space, a decrease in calories consumed or an increase in physical recreation has become a necessity.
Exercise lowers symptoms for stress related illnesses. As people start to perform cardio, their stress levels start to relieve and evolves into a sense of control over their body and life. Once the body learns how to rest, it makes it easier for mind control to take place. Instead of being so overworked over certain feelings, it becomes simpler to think things through. Unfortunately, about forty percent of adults undergo health consequences due to stress (WebMD). This number wouldn’t have been so high if the patients participated in physical activities, such as running, from a young age. Many don’t realize that the small investment they make determines a portion of their future. Remaining physically inactive can serve to be a disservice to one’s body and mind. Since exercise is an outlet for frustration, it can be a healthy and effective way to release these negative
A Surgeon General's report (Anonymous,1996) addresses the finding that continuous and consistent physical activity is proven to enhance longevity and the quality of life for people of all ages. Furthermore, the report notes that although it has been recognized for years that regular physical activity can lead to substantial health benefits, 60% of American adults are not regularly active, and 25% of the adult population are not active at all. Paffenbarger (1996) states that physical fitness and exercise can reduce the risk of diseases such as heart disease, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, some cancers, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, and obesity. Studies also show that exercise can promote psychological well-being and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression (http://www.medgraph.com/aboutexercise.html).
America’s obesity has raised greatly over time. This is because people over eating and don’t know how to exercise. Cogan and Ernsberger state that, “As much as 40 percent to 70 percent of the U.S. population is trying to lose weight, at any given time, youn...

Adding exercises into one’s daily routines can change their whole lifestyle. Many people look at exercise as being something just for people who want to lose weight or to become muscle bound, but there are a great deal of benefits that can be received from exercising regularly. Of course gaining muscle and losing fat are the two most popular reasons that usually attract people to the gym, but they make up a small part of the potential benefits that can be achieved with exercise. There are several ways in which I have benefited in my life from exercising regularly, besides just making me bigger and stronger. It has made me become more organized, helped me make better decisions, and motivated me to take on new challenges in life.
One of the best ways in how people can improve their overall mood, keep their bones healthy and even live longer, is by being an active person. Fred DeVito stated that “if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn 't change you”; however most people just want exercise just to have a fit body and be healthier without knowing great results. Other effects that exercise has into the body are normalization of glucose, insulin and leptin levels. In other words not only will it make the appearance in a person’s life to look great, but their entire body will have an extraordinary response. In order to have a more fulfilling and enjoyable life, those who are out of shape should participate in regular fitness schedule reginert.
Exercising is a popular activity for people around the world, but many people exercise indoors when they should be going outdoors for added benefits. Exercising outdoors can make people more committed to a workout program than an indoor workout plan, and their motivation levels increase (Lacharite-Lemieux, Brunelle, & Dionne, 2015). Working out outdoors will improve a person’s overall psychological (mental) health, more so than normally exercising, which already has psychological and physiological benefits (Hug, Hartig, Hansmann, Seeland, & Hornung, 2009). Obesity rates in America are high and getting people to stick to an exercise program would help fight unhealthy obesity (Gladwell, Brown, Wood, Sandercock, & Barton, 2013). Finally, if a
