Exotic animal trading is the third most profitable illegal trade, however there are many costs that come along with the profit. Animal trading results in endangerment and extinction of species, as well as animal abuse. Not only is animal trading dangerous for animals, it has many negative effects for humans as well. Exotic animals are not meant to be household pets, and are often violent and spread disease. Most people that buy illegal animals are unprepared to take care of them, or the animals simply cannot survive outside of their natural habitat. Although there are laws to try and keep this trade restricted, they are easy to get past and often hard to enforce. Something else needs to be done to protect the exotic animals of the world.

Animals from across the world often carry diseases that we are not exposed to, and have no resistance for. An example of this is SARS (Sudden/Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), which is a highly contagious respiratory disease that caused around 775 deaths globally. This disease came from the masked palm civet, an animal closely related to mongoose, that was brought to China from rainforests in South East-Asia. In addition to spreading illnesses across the world, many exotic “pets” are dangerous and not fit to live as a domesticated animal. Some of the best examples of this are the big cats, most commonly tigers. Tigers are very cute when they are young, but become much more dangerous as they grow and mature. Many owners believe that they share a special bond with their tiger, but this is untrue and many owners are injured and even killed by their pet. Tigers grow to be over 500 pounds, and cannot be declawed or defanged safely. This means that even if they do not intend to hurt you, the tiger can cause serious damage. Many also cannot afford to have a big cat, because they eat so much meat which can get very expensive, if not fed properly, they will become incredibly hostile. The benefits of exotic pets are not worth the
The exotic pet trade is a booming industry, raking in millions of dollars every year. Everything from harmless leopard geckos to hyenas can be found in 30 of the 50 states. Of those 30 states, only 21 require permits to own these animals (Webber 2010). Indiana has just recently withdrawn its own requirement for permits, making 10 states that allow any kind of exotics without documentation (Kelly 2015). It is estimated that 15,000 big cats are being kept as pets in the United States alone, with more captive tigers in Texas than there are in India. Approximately 15,000 primates and 7.3 million reptiles are also being kept in the US (Webber 2010). What does all of this mean and, more importantly, what can be done about it?
These numbers illustrate the risk that exotic animals pose to owners and community members. Keith Gisser, an exotic reptile owner, claims he's “not the kind of animal owner neighbours need to worry about”, yet Brian Johnson, Gisser's neighbour, says one of the reptile owner's snakes escaped into his backyard (www.wkyc.com..). Injury and fatalities are a risk, endangering the community when exotic animals are kept as pets, which is yet another reason why owning them should be illegal. Exotic animals carry diseases and infections that can be potentially harmful or fatal to humans, jeopardizing the safety of the community. These diseases range in severity from common ringworm infections in African pygmy hedgehogs to lyssaviruses in pet bats (Belotto et al)....
Do you think that keeping exotic animals as pets should be legal? Well, I think that owning exotic animals as pets should be illegal. First, safety is a main concern for both the animals and for people. Secondly, it cost a very large amount of money to properly care for these animals; money people usually don’t have by themselves. Finally, it is against the law in many places to own these animals. Exotic animals should not be kept as pets.
Imagine wanting not a puppy, but a tiger for your birthday, imagine the expenses of owning that tiger and the dangers and hazards of owning that tiger. Do you really think it’s a good idea to get that tiger? No, it’s not a question. It’s a lot of work, and it’s also very dangerous. Exotic animals are not good to buy and have.
The second half of the 20th century has seen the continent of Africa in continuous turmoil. Civil wars, the AIDS epidemic, deforestation, and desertification are just a few of the problems facing Africa. A more recent threat to this ancient and fragile environment has emerged and is quickly gaining strength at devouring life – the bush meat trade. “Bush meat” refers to the smoked carcasses of various wild, and often endangered species that are sold illegally at rural markets of undeveloped countries and even at ethnic markets in developed nations. The meat of gorillas, chimpanzees, and elephants are considered delicacies and the demand for these endangered species is increasingly high. Countries at the center of this crisis are Botswana, Mozambique, Kenya, Zimbabwe, the Congo, Cameroon, Zambia, Malawi, and Tanzania. Bush meat plays a crucial socio-economic role to many in Africa, and as such epitomizes the need to balance protection against such factors as poverty, health, and food security. Certain key issues are necessary to understand the bush meat trade:
...tores such as Petland purchase from puppy mills, and not enough government sanctions exist to protect these animals. Aside from puppy mills, there are many other cases where animals are being mistreated, but the laws have yet to catch up.
Therefore, the ownership of exotic animals should be banned in America because they are dangerous to humans and they are mostly endangered. Although some disagree that they should be able to own any animal for various reasons. If an exotic pet has an owner, the animal is a threat to any person it comes in contact with. From 2010 to 2015 in the United States, there have been 167 injuries and 59 deaths from exotic pets. Not only are the animals being owned but all the other animals in the wild, 19 species are predicted to go extinct by 2023, 8 of them because of people owning exotic pets.
The adult tigers suffer from abuse causing them to pace back and forth and to have self mutilation because their natural needs are not met. The temple also keeps their tigers captive. They spend most of their lives confined to barren concrete cells and chained to a small cage for several hours a day given no shade. When the tigers are allowed out, it is only because of the money. When the tigers refuse to cooperate the monks will beat the
Legalization of rhino horn trade to save rhinos from extinction Rhinoceros are large, herbivores recognized by their distinctive horned snouts. In the name rhinoceros, rhino means nose and ceros means horn, which means there are no rhinos without horns. What will we call them when they don’t have their horns because rhinos are rhinos because of their horns? This brings us to the concept of rhino horn trade legalization. Rhino horn trade legalization was introduced because of the problem of poaching, which is the illegal way of hunting.
Having exotic animals as pets is immoral and dangerous. They endanger the community, become sick, and their owners abandon them. Each State in the USA has a different law against exotic animals; multiple allow exotic pets, some allow restriction, and few do not permit exotic pets. Even if keeping an exotic animal is illegal, some one will go against the law to have what he or she wants. You may think ‘i can take good care of an animal. It will be better off with me,’ but it won't. Every country should have and exotic animal ban and realize the hurt one is causing to these poor
Primates and some other animals are captured from the wild. There is even a market for laboratory animals where licensed dealers sell animals to research companies. These animals can come from places such as puppy mills, an establishment that breeds puppies for sale. Some dealers even go to the extent of baiting animals in from the streets with meat and sedatives, and others will pose as animal control officers. Flyers for “Lost pet” and “will give to good home” are responded by the wrong individuals. Some of these suffering animals were once pets that were loved and treated like family. To know that a family member is being treated unkindly and has to suffer for something they do not deserve is never desired (Peta).
This is a common belief that a white tiger, also known as white Bengal tiger appears once in a generation. Some zoologists opine that an improper blend of the genes of the white tiger’s parents determines the singularity of this predator. Therefore, a white tiger takes birth due to the certain genetic flaw. However, this flaw makes him a versatile predator. It fashions him stronger and more agile than a normal tiger. The white tiger weighs upto 300 kg, and attains a length of about 3 meters. He can outrun the normal tiger even on the soggy land, and can swim quicker in the deep waters. The white tiger is also distinguished for his incredible hearing capacity and curiosity. His farsightedness and stalking are the powerful tools, which make him
The tiger is known for being a wild and dangerous animal, but also its beauty. In relations to India this could be a reference to the beautiful culture which enriches our experience of India, but also some of the downsides that it has like poverty and unemployment and other sociological factors which paint a grim picture of Indian life.
Many people who abuse animals do not realize that they are actually hurting animals, this is known as unintentional. When some people try to discipline their pets they use tactics that they think is acceptable, when in reality is probably not the best way. People also abuse animals due to lack of attention, such as forgetting to feed and water the animals for a number of days. A family may take the animals with them when they leave the house, and forget to leave a window down with the animal inside. One of the biggest unintentional ways of animal cruelty is a way that many people think is helpful but is actually has a negative impact on all of the animals involved, this idea is trying to take in more animals than one can handle, they have good intentions but this is harmful to animals because it forces them to live in unhealthy conditions. There are many new cases of animal hoarding every year, with over 250,000 animals falling victim. Puppy mills are large dog breeding’s that care more about making money than the wellbeing and health of the animals. Many dogs become ill with diseases such as kidney or heart disease as a result of the conditions in which they live.
Stray animals are dangerous reason being is children or elderly people can be bit while walking or playing around at parks. I live in Mercedes and at one point when I was walking from stars to the high school, and stray dog for no reason started growing at me and my instinct was to run until I got the a building. This can happen to anyone, they can be attacked trying to touch a stray or just simply walking by, or even worse a child can catch a disease. Also owners with their pets are also getting attacked by stray animals because they strays tend to be over protective of their territory, or they just want to fight with the pet of the owner.
