Taken from the only place you've ever known. Away from the only family you have. Kept in crates and cages to be sold. Removed from their home, exotic animals are put in yours for personal amusement. This act is ruinous an inhumane, it violates the basic rights of human and animals. Exotic animals have a rightful place in their natural habitats, not as pets, because they endanger the community, become sick, and their owners abandon them. The impact a wild animal has on a community is severe. In 2009, Sandra Herold, the owner of a 200 pound chimpanzee, called her friend for help. Sandra needed assistance from Charla Nash to get her money back into its cage. Unexpectedly, the chimpanzee mauled Charla. In a 911 call Sandra frantically told the dispatcher what was happening, “He ripped her apart. Shoot him, shoot him”(Copeland 1). …show more content…
Some may blame the animal for this attack but it was following instinct and Sara is the one at fault for having this animal. If Sandra's monkey can attack a familiar person while its owner is near, imagine what other animals will do with complete strangers. This monkey may not have been able to go undetected through a city but other animals could. A shark can swim through a lake with unsuspecting swimmers on top and a snake can move through sewers without ever being seen. Not only do these exotic pets escape, but owners abandon the poor animals, which brings me to my next point. These animals are taken from their habitat and are now adapted to a luxurious lifestyle. They are fed everyday and given what they need. Once an animal grows up and becomes an adult, people start neglecting it. Weather a person lets an exotic pet loose because it hurts a family member, is too much maintenance, or the animal is just not as cute as it once was, the animal is a danger to the community. Each and every way this happens leads to owners of these animals letting them loose. These animals cannot take care of themselves in a foreign environment. An animals could attack a community's pets and people, like Sandra's did, or be miserably hungry and hurt. They throw off the balance of the food chain and bacteria of an ecosystem. In addition to damaging ecosystems, they harbor foreign diesaed and are a public safety hazard(Henn). We all know what an animal is but the definition of exotic is ‘introduced from another country’.
From the Lions that hunt the terrane to the lizards that blend into the forest, each animal is made for its environment. Taking it away from their environment has physical and mental repercussions. A study found that more than 75% of exotic animals in the United Kingdom die within a year of purchase. Camillians live up to 120 years in the wild and humans can end their life in just one year. These deaths are caused by captivity and stress related sickness.(Brown) Having exotic animals as pets is immoral and dangerous. They endanger the community, become sick, and their owners abandon them. Each State in the USA has a different law against exotic animals; multiple allow exotic pets, some allow restriction, and few do not permit exotic pets. Even if keeping an exotic animal is illegal, some one will go against the law to have what he or she wants. You may think ‘i can take good care of an animal. It will be better off with me,’ but it won't. Every country should have and exotic animal ban and realize the hurt one is causing to these poor
animals.
...ress it causes for the animal not only the captivity, but also in the capture process. There are many health risks for the animal and it rips them away from their family. These animals are so amazing, but as you can see, it is better for them to stay in their environment with family and not be put on display.
However, there are ways to correct the issues with the present system. If all 50 states and other countries around the world were to institute stricter regulations, such as those mentioned above, it would help make owning exotics safer. Animals like lions and puff adders have no place being in anyone’s home, but other animals like ball pythons and leopard geckos are reasonable. The most important thing that the authorities can do to help regulate the exotic pet trade and reduce the potential damage caused by it, is to educate the public. It is essential that people be involved in and aware of decisions that are being made. Especially decisions that concern their safety and that of the world around
Throughout the world, wild cats, reptiles and primates live peacefully in their natural habitats. Despite this, every year more and more of these exotic animals are becoming domestic pets. Keeping exotic animals as pets is unsafe and should therefore be made illegal. They pose a risk of injury, disease and invasion of the natural environment. Some people believe that keeping a pet does not pose a risk if properly kept and trained.
Using animals in live entertainment facilities is unethical and inhumane. Even if one does not care about animals, concern for human life might matter. Exotic animals are dangerous to the public. Exotic and potentially dangerous animals and humans were never meant to be in close quarters with each other. Recently, a woman leaned closer to a polar bear in a zoo and was attacked. (Animal Planet 2008) Despite the fact that the bear was significantly larger than the woman, the bear may have felt threatened. The bear was not in its natural surroundings and that, coupled with the woman invading his space, created a situation where the bear felt threatened. These are not domesticated animals, like a dog, who is used to being around humans. Despite years of training, animals can instinctively react to the invasion of their space by a human. Their instinct is to protect themselves, which might include attacking and killing a human. Sadly, such an act by the animal, would typically result in the animal being put to death. Animals can...
Therefore, the ownership of exotic animals should be banned in America because they are dangerous to humans and they are mostly endangered. Although some disagree that they should be able to own any animal for various reasons. If an exotic pet has an owner, the animal is a threat to any person it comes in contact with. From 2010 to 2015 in the United States, there have been 167 injuries and 59 deaths from exotic pets. Not only are the animals being owned but all the other animals in the wild, 19 species are predicted to go extinct by 2023, 8 of them because of people owning exotic pets.
Seeing maimed animals are not pleasant images. Those images sometimes appear across computer and television screens. The advocacy groups who place these images in the public’s view are trying to jolt people into the realization that abuse exists. For every ten seconds that goes by an animal is getting abused (“Animal… Statistics”). One statistic states that “71% of pet-owning women entering women’s shelters reported that their batterer had injured, maimed, killed or threatened family pets for revenge or to psychologically control victims; 32% reported their children had hurt or killed animals” (“Animal… Violence”). Animal cruelty comes in several forms, some of which people do not know. There is animal experimenting, animal abuse, and mistreatment of animals. and through revealing the results from research, one discovers the horrific effects of animal abuse.

It’s pretty obvious that exotic animals would make bad pets. The main three reasons they would are: they can kill and injure humans, humans can’t give them proper housing, and they are too easy to obtain. The animals have done enough harm to humans, and humans have done enough harm to them. Exotic pets arent even banned in some states where attacks have happened. People need to stand up, and get exotic animals banned from being pets!
Do you know that if you buy a pet from a pet store, there will be some animals die in the shelters? Do you also know that every year there are thousands of sheltered animals are euthanized—mercy killing— because there is no space for them? Many people buy pets rather than adopt from shelters because they think they are healthy, purebred and well-behaved. But actually the sheltered animals may be healthier, happier and much cheaper. In the recent years, more and more people decide to adopt animals since there are numerous advantages such as changing a homeless animal’s whole life, reducing illegal trade and puppy farms and benefiting from long- term advice and support.
Another reason exotic animals shouldn’t be considered pets is because without their proper habitat and care to survive with, these animals might not get the best care that they need. When people buy these creatures, their main reason for buying might just be because the animal is “cute.” But the new owners might be

How do you feel about animal abandonment? Well animal abandonment is a serious crime in the United States. By abandoning any animal you can serve serious prison time. The state officials take the crime of animal abandonment very seriously. Animal abandonment is a problem because they need attention, it’s not right or humane to abandon them, and the animals do not deserve to be treated in this kind of way.
The second reason why people shouldn’t have exotic pets is that they can spread diseases. Some of the deadly diseases are viral, they can give people bacterial, fungal, and horrible infections to people. They can
Can you imagine keeping your dog in a small fish bowl, or keeping a person in a cage? How do you feel if you see rare animals which you may expect to see in wildlife, but you see them in someone’s backyard instead? These are similar to what people do when they keep exotic animals as their pets. Firstly, exotic pets are rare or unusual animals which are not native to the country, but kept in captivity within human households. These animals are generally considered as a wild species, and are not typically kept as pets. According to Born Free USA, a nonprofit organization dedicated in animal protection, only thirteen states ban the private ownership of exotic animals. Millions of them are still allowed to be privately possessed in the U.S without restriction, which showing how poorly these regulations are enforced. Several government-based organizations have also opposed the individual possession of exotic animals (“The Dangers of Keeping Exotic Pets”). Although the owner can take a good care of their welfare, people should not be allowed to own exotic animals because it causes the animals to suffer, it is dangerous for public safety, and it harms public health.
Throughout history, man has captured hundreds of different species of animals. These animals are mostly used for entertainment purposes. Wild animals do not belong in captivity where they are stuck in cages for people to see, and for the companies holding them to make money. They are wild for a reason, because that is where they belong, in the wild where they can be free to do what nature intended.
