There are many types of team that contributes differently towards the success of organization. The formal team will contribute by making sure that they carry out the duty professionally on a day-to-day basis. One key aspect of the formal team is that they have certain rules and regulations to follow. An example will be that they need to dress smartly and communicate in formal language to customers and colleagues. (Richard ET all, 2009) This is part of the job which the team members need to carry out, But it does not mean, performing the day duty will make the team effective. It is essential that the team members are willing to work hard and give the utmost effort in any project or activity which they are given. The team needs to work together and make sure that they have a friendly relation with members and supervisors. There are four most common forms of teams you are likely to find in an organization. The first type of team is the problem solving teams, this team will meet each other every week to discuss on how they will improve work process and their methodology. They will create a very innovative solution but they will still keep looking for a problem to go with it. The second type of teams is the self-managed teams, composed of 10-15 employees who perform highly related on interdependent jobs and take on many responsibilities of their former supervisors. This team leads to a system where there is a mutual responsibility among the members. Self-managed teams’ responsibilities include collective control over the pace of work, determination of work assignments, Organization of breaks and collective choice of inspection procedures used. Self-managed teams select their own members, and the members evaluate each other’s performance.
According to our text, Communicating at Work, an effective team has eight characteristics. These characteristics are: clear and inspiring shared goals; a results driven structure; competent team members; unified commitment; collaborative climate; standards of excellence; external support and recognition; and principled leadership. A group goes through four stages in becoming an effective team; forming, storming, norming, and performing (Adler and Elmhorst, 240, 251). Most of the characteristics of an effective team are brought to the team by one or more members, others are formed during the development process.
People have been working in teams for centuries accomplishing various tasks very successfully. However, only recently scientific researches have been conducted on the matter of teams, teams' performance and effectiveness and the accomplishment of new projects by so-called high performance teams. Results of scientific researches have proved that a team is clearly distinguished from a simple group of people by means of certain characteristic features. Also, it has been found that working in teams allows people to fulfill certain projects faster and more effectively, however, it is only possible when the new projects have been carefully planned and structured in advance.

When we think of the word team, individually many different ideas may come to mind about what a team really is. Some may think of an NFL team (Tennessee Titans), an NBA team (Sacramento Kings), or a NASA astronaut team with such pioneers as Edwin Aldrin, Jr. and Neil Armstrong as members. You might even think of the U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, or Marines as teams. In fact they all are, and they have a great deal in common as teams. The team members should know how important a project is to the company and stride to achieve the goals in a professional manner. Each member should contribute one hundred and ten percent of their input to the group to make the project the best that it can be. An individual’s contribution towards teamwork is a hidden factor towards high performance that not many people understand until they have had significant experience working with various teams. While interdependence amongst all team members is something people are familiar with, one tends to undermine the necessity and intensity of individual contributions. Hearing Professor Hutchinson’s lecture he made me realize that there is an “I” in team which motivated me further to improve my individual performance on the team (“Building Effective Teams”). Our first team deliverable was the Team Contract which encompassed all our goals, expectations and formal rules that would govern our team’s performance. After delivering our team contract, every team member had a clear understanding as to how our team would function. We had a common goal and very organic values and ideas.
The work community has several members, it is vital that these individuals act as a group, so that the common goal was achieved. This section describes the team, the team's importance, team building and why before-mentioned issues are important.
