How long will it take America’s streets to be clean? “In January 2014, there were 578,424 people experiencing homelessness on any given night in the United States” (Snapshot of Homelessness, n.d.). The number of homeless found on the streets continues to increase and more and more are left without food and shelter. They are left to survive off whatever resources they can find, and most nights it is nothing. This epidemic is beginning to grow out of proportion and action must be made to help change the brokenness found on the streets. Covina is one of many cities that has a numerous amount of homeless. Most individuals would suggest creating a homeless shelter, but that solution is unrealistic due to budgets, and the lack of funds from the community and Calvary Chapel. The cost of these solutions is reasonable and within reach. The solution will provide jobs and offer a sense of self-esteem most homeless have lost. The homeless as well as the community will thrive from this program and lives will be changed. Individuals, who were stuck on the street cold and alone, will be given the opportunity to go out and make a change in their lives. Although, many might suggest that many homeless are ex drug addicts or alcoholics, there are many who do not have the financial stability to survive and live a life of normality but will do what it takes to change their situation. Hess suggests that, “What many people need is an opportunity to get back on their feet and develop their own income” (Feuer, 2012, para.15). These changes however will take time, and will not happen overnight. The church will need a reasonable amount of time before any results can be seen. However, although my proposal might suggest negative consequences it is still worth implementing because, it offers more positive than negative results. The costs to start the program are reasonable and in the end will help everyone within the community. People within the church will feel a sense of accomplishment for making a difference in an individual’s life, and those who were once homeless will have the courage to turn their lives around. I can personally remember a time when the youth group from my church and I went out to local parks and helped feed the homeless. After doing such a good deed, I felt blessed and happy that I could help someone who was in need of my assistance.
