Every state in America has a nickname, California’s being “The Golden State”. When one wonders why, they may think it is because of the famous Golden Gate bridge that peaks through the San Francisco fog, or the golden sun that is always shining, warming the air against their skin. To me, California is more than a landmark or a climate. Last summer after my Spirit of America experience, my friends and I made decided to do California together this summer because of the different beliefs we had about the state. In my eyes, California is a state of happiness and acceptance, art and aesthetic, and dreams. I believe California provides people with happiness and acceptance, whether it be through the many communities and groups of people that are there, …show more content…
I think this because California is a state that is very accepting of the LGBTQ+ community. I always see their pride festivals and see that many famous members of the community live in the state, ranging from musicians to actors to social media influencers. Also, I see California as a state of acceptance because I feel like you can be anyone and find still find a group to fit in with. Like previously stated, I am a frequent social media user who follows many different types of people. All of them have a large fan base in the state and a group of friends that they fit in with, proving that you can be yourself and find a way to find people that will appreciate and relate to you. Finally, California seems to have many happy people. I think this may be because of the acceptance and the amount of opportunities for people to partake in. Overall, I am very firm with this belief, and I hope to see it in reality whilst on our …show more content…
California is the ultimate place for artsy photos and also the place where many influencers live. Whether the platform be YouTube, VSCO, Instagram, Twitter, etc. I probably have an account. Being someone who follows a lot of influencers who live in California, I see a lot of content from many places in the state. The state itself has a lot of culture and history, so many locations reflect those aspects. Two of my favourite YouTube channels Emma Chamberlain and the Dolan Twins live in California. They talk about how they like living in LA because there are so many places to take photos to promote their channels, they can express themselves freely along with other people like them, and also live the “typical” (or possibly stereotypical) Californian lifestyle. Also, I think the state is artsy and inspiring for my own content that I would like to put out. I love taking photos, videos, and making videos, and a lot of people who I get my inspiration from live in California and post from a variety of locations and landmarks
The idea of that California is the state to come to where your dreams come true is a very real thing. Also writers, from newspapers, magazines, and even books have a tendency to write the upside of the good things and then tend to leave some of the bad things to chance. Some writers have called California the vanishing dream. The myth of California being a good and bad goes back to the time of the Gold Rush and Dust Bowl. The Gold Rush is a example of the California myth because people were finding gold. There was a problem with people finding gold. People were coming to California for gold, but they found out that once they got here, there wasn’t as much gold as they had hoped to find. When the people were finding gold it was not enough to support any kind of life that was promised. The people wanted to have the luxurious life that went along with finding this mineral. Gold was not at the high price that everyone thought it would be at. Don’t get me wrong some people did do well from finding this mineral, but not a lot. Another incident that California is a myth is the Dust Bowl.
America: land of the free and home of the brave. Stretching from coast to coast, it’s a nation that claims liberty and justice for all – but what really makes America so great? Is it the astonishing skyline of New York City, a skyline that exemplifies all that we’ve accomplished? Is it the abundance of popular culture and fame produced in the shiny, dream-making city of Hollywood? Maybe it’s the way our ancestors victoriously conquered the fertile, prosperous land that once belonged to the now seemingly forgotten indigenous people.
Living life to the fullest in California is exciting and fun. Everyone can find their hobby and discover new ones every day. It allows all people from all backgrounds to explore the unimagined. Living in Florida may be fun for a while, but it is not the place for opportunity. California brings everything to the table. Living in California allows one to truly live life. After all, “adventure is out there.” –Russell ( The movie Up from Disney)
In January of 1848, gold was discovered at Sutter’s Mill, which is now in present-day California. From 1848-1849, 300,000 people rushed to California in search of gold. These gold-seekers, nicknamed “Forty-Niners”, came from all over the world. Most of the Forty-Niners came from the rest of America, but some even came from Europe, Australia, Latin America, and Asia. Because of the huge gold rush, roads, churches, schools, canals, cities, and towns were established in the California area. This new economic explosion influenced California to become a state in the Union.
Choosing a vacation destination can be difficult. When deciding a destination there are many things to consider. Two of the most important considerations are the climate, and activities that are available. California is one of the top destinations for many people. California is also known as the “Sunshine State”. The beautiful state has many things to offer for families, couples, and singles. The top places that are visited in Southern California include many amusements and popular site seeing. A few top places are Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Hollywood Boulevard, and Catalina Island. These are a few of the top attractions in Southern California. Ultimately where you choose to visit will be a personal choice.
Imagine yourself sitting on a lava rock cliff, hearing the ocean pounding the rock wall below. The salty sea spray cools your lips and the taste tickles your tongue. Feeling the sun against your skin, it is cooled by the mix of mist and breeze that plays with the palm trees. You could say I grew up in a place most people can only daydream about. When most people hear of where I grew up all they can picture is paradise. There is so much more to the “Aloha State” than the stale beachside hotels covered in an abundance of hibiscus prints with pineapples around every turn. The people, food, and land are the heart of the Hawaiian Islands.
Most Americans have their favorite place to live or visit whether it be at a coastline or the mountains. The two states that are most favored by Americans are Florida and California. These are the biggest when it comes down to tourist attractions. There are many factors to consider when comparing California to Florida such as housing, weather, food, culture, and beaches.
By the second half of the nineteenth century, many people rushed to California including Anglo. It can be said that California was entering an era of “Anglo hegemony”. In this paper, I intend to discuss the reason why they traveled to California, their encounters, their remarkable success as well as the role of sex and gender in helping these newcomers assume control of California.

Los Angeles is a city with a large population which consists of a substantial number of immigrants. A wide range of immigrants from around the world have settled in Los Angeles making it one of the most diverse cities in this country. Many citizens of Los Angeles have strong arguments on whether or not an immigration reform is beneficial or if it is going to harm the city and its residents. The topic of immigration is of great importance because it is an issue that Los Angeles has experience for several of years and will continue in many more to come if action is not taken. Any changes made in regards to immigration are going to affect people in Los Angeles one way or another regardless of the perspective they might sustain about the subject because money and the community are involved in case of any modification. The city of Los Angeles is no stranger to the issue of immigration, which requires a solution through the process of an immigration reform to enforce constitutional value through the process of establishment of citizenship and amnesty. Immigration reforms will develop a political policy that is going to improve, modify and change our current immigration policy. It is essential and beneficial for the city of Los Angeles to obtain an immigration reform which will benefit families by offering broader, equal and fair opportunities as it will provide the city with economic growth.
Since 1848 to the present, California has had strong periods of representing the American Dream with its egalitarian advances and times of overwhelmingly democratic positions. Also, California was once a place for economic opportunity, attracting people from all over the nation. Since 1990, however, California has witnessed a reverse migration. Once a land of hope and opportunity, California has slowly been turning into a land of despair.
Although capitalism still exists in the greater Los Angeles, its influence is not as great as it was fifty years ago. Los Angeles continues to serve as the breeding ground for new cultures, ideologies, and alternative lifestyles. The pursuit of the American Dream has become a reality for most immigrants in LA. LA is a great place to live, party, and be. I knew little about the history of Los Angeles prior to this course, but now I am well prepared to answer the question of, “What makes Los Angeles, Los Angeles?”
