The movies of “The Blind Side” and the “Freedom Writers,” are two different genre films, they follow different itineraries and ideas. Movies can be seemly different, but can have the same message. “The Blind Side” and “Freedom Writers,” are the perfect example of demonstrating how stories can follow different plotlines, but can hold the same meaning. Furthermore, both movies share similarities of people dealing with huge obstacles and overcoming life-changing events that impacted their lives every day. In both films the characters met someone who motivated them and encouraged them to pursue a proper education. After all these radical changes the characters from both movies had a more serious understanding that education is really important for their future.

a young homeless person who comes from a bad childhood and unsafe community. His mother was an alcoholic and cocaine addict. Let alone, Michael never had a true family to rely on, nor had someone who cared about him. Similarly, the film “Freedom Writers,” a young new teacher named Mrs. Erin starts teaching at a new school. She gets a class of students with different backgrounds. Some are gang members, others homeless. All of her students come from very bad neighborhoods, unsafe communities, and dysfunctional households. In both stories the main characters were surrounded by negative people who did not let them succeed in life, and were constantly pushed to a bad road, where there’s no future stored for them. In both films the main students face big obstacles in their lives. For example, in “The Blind Side,” Michael Oher never had a good education. His past schools did not even bother giving him a proper education or teaching him. “Why this admission do this? I mean, it’s not fair to us or the boy, just sitting him up to fail.” (The Blind Side Script,2016). This perfectly shows how Michael new school, also do not believe in his capability to learn, nor that he could succeed in life. Likewise, in the movie “Freedom Writers,” the teachers have given up on their students. “This was an A-list school, before they came here, and look what they turned it into.” (Freedom Writers Script,2016). This also shows how the teachers blame the students for the lack of integrity of the school, and they feel like the students are the reasons for the school’s problems. Therefore, this shows, how in both stories the characters face huge obstacles in school. Their low level of education becomes hard for them; it also reduces their opportunity to get a higher education. Nevertheless, throughout the films the main students’ find a devotedness in something they truly love. For instance, in the movie” Freedom Writers,” the students found a passion in reading books and writing. The characters at the beginning of the story hated school, owned no interest in education, and had no respect towards their teachers. Later in the movie the students realize the importance of education and start having a passion for reading books. They start to write in a diary to show their emotions and thoughts of what they are going through. On the other hand, in “The Blind Side,” Michael Oher has a, difficult time in school and out of school, but soon it changes when he starts playing football. At the beginning Michael had no clue how to play football nor understands it, but with practice he eventually grows to love it. In both stories the characters find something they truly are passionate about, to help them deal with their outside lives. Throughout the movie the characters met people who help impact their lives in a positive way.
In “The Blind Side” Michael meets Leigh Anne, someone who takes him in at a time when he is homeless. She provides him with food, clothes, and roof to live under, as well as giving him a better education. Leigh Anne changes Michael’s life for the better, but most importantly she makes him feel loved and appreciated. In similarity, the” Freedom Writers,” Mrs. Erin earns her students’ respect by showing them love. She changes her students’, perspective about getting a school education, while at the same time she shows them a personal interest, and hope for a better future.
Both films show the many obstacles the characters have to face along the way.” The Blind Side” and “The Freedom Writers” tell different stories, but both share that anyone can overcome struggle along the way. In both stories, furthermore the characters, run into people who impact their lives, and give them hope to keep succeeding. In both movies towards’ the end, they get to experience how it feels to have someone cheering them on, because they want them to do better for themselves and their
future.
Richard Rodriguez author and journalist wrote a short piece “Scholarship Boy” to explain to his audience of underprivileged children wanting a better future, the scarifies he endured as a young child: the loss of family ties and knowing himself in order to succeed a better self. Another great author who faced huge sacrifices is known as none other than abolitionist leader Fredrick Douglass, “Learning to Read and Write” giving his found audience a look into the various dangerous tasks he took to give himself a better chance of survival. The two pieces show how one boy sacrificed so much in order to free himself and the other coming from less harsh circumstances but understand sacrifices just as well. All to be able to have a better and brighter future.
The story of Anne's childhood must be appreciated in order to understand where her drive, inspiration, and motivation were born. As Anne watches her parents go through the tough times in the South, Anne doesn't understand the reasons as to why their life must this way. In the 1940's, at the time of her youth, Mississippi built on the foundations of segregation. Her mother and father would work out in the fields leaving Anne and her siblings home to raise themselves. Their home consisted of one room and was in no comparison to their white neighbors, bosses. When looking into works of literature, some stories seem to be similar to others. They can have a similar setting, point of view, theme, or sense of language and style. However, all of these points could be very different as well and could cover different theme or style. Flannery O’Conner’s “Good Country People” and Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use” have some contrasting elements, such as their points of view and use of symbolism, but their similarities in the underlying theme, language, and the setting of these stories reveal how these two stories are impacted by education on both the individual and their family.
In this day and age, writing is being portrayed through various mediums, such as film and television. Some of those portrayals depict writing as both good and bad depending on the situation that is present. Authors such as, by E. Shelley Reid, Kevin Roozen, and Anne Lamott all write about important writing concepts that are being depicted in films, like Freedom Writers. The film Freedom Writers shows a positive and accurate portrayal of writing in the sense that the writers should have a connection to what they are writing about, writing is a form of communication, and that writing does not have to be perfect the first time.
Education is a privilege. The knowledge gained through education enables an individual’s potential to be optimally utilized owing to training of the human mind, and enlarge their view over the world. Both “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass” by Frederick Douglass himself and “Old Times on the Mississippi” by Mark Twain explore the idea of education. The two autobiographies are extremely different; one was written by a former slave, while the other was written by a white man. Hence, it is to be expected that both men had had different motivations to get an education, and different processes of acquiring education. Their results of education, however, were fairly similar.

Both stories show the characters inequality with their lives as women bound to a society that discriminates women. The two stories were composed in different time frames of the women’s rights movement; it reveals to the readers, that society was not quite there in the fair treatment towards the mothers, daughters, and wives of United States in either era. Inequality is the antagonist that both authors created for the characters. Those experiences might have helped that change in mankind to carve a path for true equality among men and women.
When you look at someone, you see a person, but sometimes, you forget that that person has a story. I learned that when I watched the film, I Learn America. When I first watched the movie, I saw students that have come to America. They have come to an international school in New York to learn English. As the film goes on, you see that each of the students that they focus on have struggles that they have/had to overcome to come or stay in America. Before, I did not realize how much they had to go through in order to come to the United States. As educators, we have to get to know our students. We have to understand their lives and their backgrounds and create a good teacher-student relationship and help students build a “home away from home”.
The Blind Side is more of an emotional back and forth of failing and succeeding. Forrest Gump is more of a comedy going through important parts of history but also has a heartwarming touch to it. Both movies are very inspirational and teaches you never to give up on things that you do not realizing you could achieve
The movie “Breaking Away” presents the story of a young man from working class origins who seeks to better himself by creating a persona through which he almost, but not quite, wins the girl. The rivalry between the townies and the college students sets the scene for the story of four friends who learn to accept themselves as they "break away" from childhood and from their underdog self-images.
In conclusion, both female protagonists from “A Rose for Emily” and “The Yellow Wallpaper” experience oppression from the dominant males in their lives which eventually causes them to be physically isolated from their contemporary world. Thus, their seclusion leads them to experience confusion and stifling emotions, while teaching them more about themselves and their inner thoughts.
“A Rose for Emily’’ By William Faulkner and “The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman,” are two short stories that both associate qualities of differences and similarities. Both stories have several similarities in setting, symbolism and characterization. A major difference of both stories are the point of view they were written in, “A Rose for Emily” is written in third person and “The Yellow Wallpaper” is written in first person point of view. The two short stories are about the women being forced into isolation because of their gender and the beliefs of the men controlling their lives. Both female characters are overwhelmed with maintaining the image that is imposed by the men in high societies, but even more with the feeling of imprisonment and dealing with being mentally and emotionally ill. Although, the stories are similar they have their own twists.
The struggles both characters face demonstrate character development and contribute to the themes of the stories. Both short stories prove to be literally effective in that they disclose the main themes at the outset of each story. Although the themes may alter over the course of the stories, they are clearly defined in their respective introductions.
In the late 1660’s a scientist, Edme Mariotte, discovered the “blind spot’ in the eye. Edme noticed a hole in the eye , the optic disc, with a nerve going through it and found that it was the blind spot. Edme is the first remembers scientist to discover the blind spot. He is often remembered for his study of optics and color perception. Edme made many more discoveries in the science fields. Although Edme did not believe the blind spot was in the retina, he was the first scientist to recognize there was something weird in the eye, at which at some point you could not see an entire image, also known as the blind spot. In the vision field the blind spot is call “Mariotte’s Spot” (Edme Meriotte (1620-1684): Pioneer of Neurophysiology, n.d.).
The film Freedom Writers directed by Richard La Gravenese is an American film based on the story of a dedicated and idealistic teacher named Erin Gruwell, who inspires and teaches her class of belligerent students that there is hope for a life outside gang violence and death. Through unconventional teaching methods and devotion, Erin eventually teaches her pupils to appreciate and desire a proper education. The film itself inquiries into several concepts regarding significant and polemical matters, such as: acceptance, racial conflict, bravery, trust and respect. Perhaps one of the more concentrated concepts of the film, which is not listed above, is the importance and worth of education. This notion is distinctly displayed through the characters of Erin, Erin’s pupils, opposing teachers, Scott and numerous other characters in the film. It is also shown and developed through the usage of specific dialogue, environment, symbolism, and other film techniques.
