Dynamic stretching has become increasingly popular stretching technique for athletes of all ages. Dynamic stretching is a controlled movement that involves an active range of motion for each joint in the body. It involves stretching while the athletes are actively moving. Dynamic stretching is used to improve flexibility in motion and does so by resembling movements you would normally make in your sport. In comparison, static dynamic stretching involves an athlete stretching their muscles in a stationary position. Track athletes normally have extensive warm up and stretch routines before their meets, and believe that these stretches lead to enhanced performance and a decrease in injury. By performing dynamic stretches instead of stationary stretches it is thought that an athletes range of motion of their joints increase and blood and oxygen flow increases to the brain, leading to an increase in performance.
We have millions of athletes of all ages in our country today and it is important to find out what is best for them to optimize their performance and prevent injury. According to the CDC more than 2.6 million children aged 0-19 years old are treated each year for sports and recreation related injuries. If even some of these injuries could be prevented by stretching before an athletic event, it is worth doing research on such a topic. Conducting a research study on track athletes aged 14-22 years old who specialize in sprinting, we then can apply what we have learned here to other sports that involve sprinting. This study has findings that are consistent with others who studied similar thoughts. In conclusion stretching really not beneficial to injury prevention and is only found to help performance when preformed correctly.
Overall most of these studies found that static stretching before an event was found to have little to no effect on sprinting performance. Dynamic stretching was found to be more beneficial but only when performed correctly for the right sport. By performing a research study on specifically track athletes we can find what type of stretching is best for athletes that involve sprinting to better optimize their performance and prevent injury.

Many people are more active today than they were many years ago. Injury prevention and diagnosis plays a big role in today’s society. Preventing an injury is important for many athletes all over the world, and for people that are physically active. Preventing injuries can benefit an athlete in the long run. Athletic trainers help athletes and physically active people stay healthy for what they do on a daily basis.
What is Biomechanics? It is the study of forces and their effects on the living system (McGinnis, 2013). In this essay, I will be looking at the biomechanics of running. Running, as well as any other sport requires skills for which advancement is due to consistent deliberate practice and effective development. However, runners should establish a training system that actively builds their original running pattern instead of basing it on what works well for others. Understanding the biomechanics of running gives a better knowledge of their running techniques and points out areas of concerns that require improvement. Despite the fact that running is dependent on the interaction of the whole body, breaking down the running pace into single components allows us to further understand how minor changes can increase improve performance and decrease injury risk.

Injuries are common among both male and female gymnast alike, but due to the fact a female gymnast’s career peaks at the same time of major growth and development, a female gymnast’s body as a whole is more likely to undergo lifelong changes or affects (Gianoulis 2). Among the injuries of the mind blowing athletes, the most common ones affect the ankles, feet, lower back, wrist, and hands of individuals (Prevention and Treatment 1). From sprains, to the breaks, the intriguing sport of gymnastics is physically demanding on a gymnast’s body.
Creative new training methods, developed by coaches, athletes and sport scientists, are aimed to help improve the quality and quantity of athletic training ( Kellmann, 2010, p.1). However, these methods have encountered a consistent set of barriers including overtraining ( Kellmann, 2010, p.1). Due to these barriers, the need for physical and mental recovery in athletics brought an increasing attention in practice and in research ( Kellmann, 2010, p.1).
Football injuries is something people hate to see and experience but are all a part of the game; and if athletes choose to play this sport they have to realize the longer you play the sport the more likely you are to get hurt playing that sport. Previous research into the area of sprint performance has focused on what type of training can be done to improve performance (Whitney et al., 2005). A common method used is repeated practice of the performance of a sprint (Edge et al., 2005). This induces a learning effect; this learning effect is the improvement in performance through continued repetitions (Gibala et al., 2006). An alternative training method used by coaches for training purposes is the use of resistance training to increase skeletal muscular strength, the hamstring group, gluteus maximus and adductor magnus are considered the most important skeletal muscles in speed production (Delecluse, 2006). High velocity strength training uses exercises that train the muscles to recruit the fastest motor units (Delecluse et al., 1998). The motor units that can produce the most rapid contractions are the neuromuscular pathways that will become developed to allow a rapid response to signals inducing muscular contractions (Wilmore et al., 2008).
The body was designed to perform a variety of tasks while actively using muscles. Sustained muscle activity robs the muscles of life giving blood flow. It is very important to actively stretch during breaks to flush out toxins that build up in the muscles that were used for sustained posture.
Today, millions of people have discovered the benefits of stretching. Over the last years, studies have shown that people that live these active lives live fuller lives. In fact, studies show that a lack of physical activity directly relates to many major illnesses and death. Before the Industrial Revolution, people actually had to work hard to get their needed amount of movement. After the Revolution, it became a different story. People no longer needed to work physically to make a life for themselves. With this lack of movement came lack of flexibility. Now, everywhere you look, you see people out jogging, hiking, and playing golf, tennis, and other sports to stay active. The fitness trend is in; but it’s not a trend anymore. Now, it’s a way of life. Stretching is an important part of this way of life that many people leave out.
