Deep into College Athletics In today’s world schooling is a necessity to get a job. As kids, we will play some sort of sport and will always say “When I grow up I want to be a professional athlete,” for most people this goal is not realistic. So, with this comes the question, why play college sports? I know you gain certain knowledge and skill sets from them, but is it worth all the hard work and time put in to perfect your respected sport. All the time one could be studying. I believe that student athletes have a ridiculous hard time balancing social life, school, and a sport. The sacrifice to play sports in college may or may not be rewarding enough, we will just have to wait and find out for ourselves. Personally, I have had deep thoughts of whether to play a college sport. I remembered specific times this last summer conversing with my parents about it. To tell you the truth, I’m playing college golf as a test in a way. In talking with my father, he would always tell me to try, or else you will never know what is in store for you. There are thousands of high school football players across the nation, and a handful of them have what it takes to play at the college level. Those that do have the raw talent normally get reached by college football recruiters and coaches. The NCAA, the National College Athletic Association, has many rules and regulations especially surrounding the rules and conduct of recruiting student athletes. Men's football takes the most notice, as well as basketball, of all collegiate sports in the U.S. today (Smith, 2015). According to Langelett (2003), the NCAA limits each school to 85 football scholarships. With a limited number of scholarships available, schools spend a considerable amount of time and money on recruiting players.

There is an evident failure in the educational system when the student-athlete’s performance and how they contribute to a winning season, is more valuable to the university, than the academic student who strives to graduate with honors. Robe's argument does provide supporting evidence, however it is unlikely to convince those readers that come into it with an opposing view.
After all of my research, and an interview with my future teammate, that these are all great things that will prepare me to be a college athlete. There is more to being a collegiate athlete other than just playing the sport and going to class. I think that it is what most people do not realize.
