Deep into College Athletics In today’s world schooling is a necessity to get a job. As kids, we will play some sort of sport and will always say “When I grow up I want to be a professional athlete,” for most people this goal is not realistic. So, with this comes the question, why play college sports? I know you gain certain knowledge and skill sets from them, but is it worth all the hard work and time put in to perfect your respected sport. All the time one could be studying. I believe that student athletes have a ridiculous hard time balancing social life, school, and a sport. The sacrifice to play sports in college may or may not be rewarding enough, we will just have to wait and find out for ourselves. Personally, I have had deep thoughts of whether to play a college sport. I remembered specific times this last summer conversing with my parents about it. To tell you the truth, I’m playing college golf as a test in a way. In talking with my father, he would always tell me to try, or else you will never know what is in store for you. Transferring was a main topic, “If you don’t like it, transfer. It happens for a lot of kids, so don’t feel like it is a big issue,” he would say. Since choosing a secondary education is a very important life decision one must contemplate it long and hard. With the large effect college sports has on a community the decision only becomes harder. Everyone wants to make people proud and with that comes the role of sports, so we use this to show off our success to people like parents, teachers, etc. No one would go to college without the existence of scholarships and getting money from playing a sport is a big deal to many.
