Did you know that in May of 2012, a new Box Office record was set for biggest opening weekend in history? This particular film brought in over $200 million, beating Harry Potter and his gang out of the title by over $30 million, but what else could be expected when going up against Earth’s mightiest heroes? That’s right, I’m talking about the Avengers. I am personally a die hard superhero fan, and with the recent release of the Avengers sequel, I couldn’t think of a more popular topic to speak about!
For those of you who may not know much about the Avengers, I will provide some background information. The Avengers are a fictional team of superheroes that were created by Marvel Comics in 1963, but since then have been revamped for the 21st century movie productions. One thing that I love about the team is that they are timeless and age appropriate for everyone. They started in the 60s and 5 decades later, they are still popular, maybe even more so now than back then!

Whether it be Captain America’s kindness and strong morals, or Iron Man’s intelligence and his headstrong determination, they all strive to help people and make the world a better place. We are currently living in the Golden Age of Superheroes. They dominate our cultural life, and have become seemingly permanent fixtures in modern media. Since X-Men burst onto the screen fifteen years ago, we have witnessed the release of over forty superhero movies. By 2020 we will have seen the release of more than twenty-five more. Today, the much anticipated film Superman vs. Batman has come to theaters. Though a plethora of superhero movies have been released, it is to the dissatisfaction of many, having long been exhausted by the stories of the Hulk, Batman, and Spider-man. Although I must agree that it is quite easy to get bored with the constant action, and flashing colors of these films, if one looks deep enough into the story they will discover universal themes and metaphors. Though they may be fighting off alien invasions, these heroes are also battling with their personal challenges, challenges which we can
In April of 1861, the American Civil War broke out. In June of 2006, the Marvel Civil War broke out. 145 years of separation still bind these two seemingly unrelated events. The nonfiction and fiction worlds may come across as totally different. One involves actual American heroes fighting over abolition versus slavery and federal versus states’ rights while the other involves fictional American superheroes fighting over freedom versus security, individual rights versus the need for regulation. More specifically, the Marvel Civil War was caused by a controversial Superhero Registration Act that required all superheroes to register themselves under the government as government agents.

Many subtle battles between good and evil have been waged since the beginning of time. Whether it be wars between cultures or countries in real life, great battles in literature, or final fights in films, the conflict never ends. This fact is evident in the movie, The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon. As a group of heroes brought together to save the world, the Avengers obviously represent good. Loki and his army of aliens represent evil as they try to take over the Earth. Throughout the movie, the Avengers are constantly battling against Loki in order to keep the power over the Earth. They meet Loki in a final battle against him and his alien army where they fight for control of the world. Following the pattern led by history, the Avengers,

Three weeks ago, Trump’s title elevated from GOP candidate to president-elect. Following this revelation, protests erupted and injured countless civilians and law enforcers. Even high schoolers, trapped in the wrong place at the wrong time, have been tear gassed and endangered through the protests. Yet, these protests determine nothing: on January 20th, Donald Trump will still become president. While hatred continues to simmer below the surface, protesters slowly realize that their street performances cannot ensure a better future, only a violent present. As they become discredited about the state of their country, the democrat’s anger morphs into anxiety. With a president-elect, who, in the past three weeks, has altered his platform and changed

The United States of America is known as the nation of freedom, a place to make dreams come true, and where equal rights are followed. However, our education in history shows a different perspective. The citizens have had a complicated time convincing the mind of Congress on modifying the rights of the people. Before, women could not vote to choose the future of America, yet after many marches, the women who rose up to speak with great fervor accomplished their goal of making it possible for women to vote. The Presidential Election is a time for people to vote for the leader of the country. As I turn 18 yrs old, I have the opportunity to vote for this country’s future. What led me to the desire of voting was hearing Donald Trump’s negative
Every child in the United States has heard or read the Marvel and DC comics books. If you have not then you have probably have heard of their characters like the famous star spangled hero, Captain America, or the Dark Knight himself, Batman. Both Marvel and DC has influenced the children and adults of American in its darkest times. The great wars affected many by its poisonous grasps, and its victims sought comfort with the antidote provided by the marvelous illustrators and writers of comic books. Now their cinematic counterparts are here to inspire the 21st century. The Marvel and DC cinematic universes have similar content, they both have unique characteristics that set them apart.
‘Mum, I want to watch Superman movie!’ ‘Okay, John, but you must finish your homework first,’ mum says. When we were small, we loved to watch superheroes movie and most of us used to imagine ourselves as our favorite superheroes. When we grow up, superhero movies become part of our lives. We all love superheroes because they made us feel save and secure. Some of us even worship them as God and we try to imitate them. For me, superhero movies are the best and I love to watch them very much. My favorite superhero movies are ‘Iron Man 3’ and ‘ The Dark Knight Rises’. Although both of them are superhero movies, there are few similarities and differences between them, which are the costumes, moral values, technology and also hero characteristic.
Being a hero means that one can show courage when it comes to facing a problem. It is a person who helps others in many ways, such as a person in danger. In the modern era, the creation of superheroes have become popular when it comes to producing films. Viewers can choose their favorite heroes due to the idea that there a many of them. However, most fans argue which superheroes are better. Two of the most popular superheroes are DC’s Batman and Marvel’s Iron Man. Although Batman and Iron Man are loved by many viewers because of how they help people in danger, they still demonstrate imperfections which can cause viewers to dislike them. However, both superheroes share similarities and differences between themselves. Batman and Iron Man have
Captain America is not like the average superhero. Captain America, or his alter ego Steve Rogers, was a frail young man who was chosen by scientist Abraham Erskine to be tested with his experimental serum. That experimental serum made Rogers from a weak, bony young man to being to the peak of human perfection. Right after that, a Nazi spy appeared and shot Erskine, killing him. “In order to keep Nazi spies from obtaining the serum, Erskine hadn't written down the serum's ingredients, along with much of the procedure, having instead committed it to memory.” (Comic Vine) Rogers was the only super soldier manifested. Given a patriotic costume and a shield that not only is nearly indestructable but is used as a weapon, Captain America was born.
Many people take for granted the opportunities they receive through the hard work of others, but this attitude needs to stop because it has become the “norm” for students to expect their teachers and professors to provide them with an education. While it is true that in the United States, students are required to attend school until the age of eighteen, many children around the world lack this luxury. This “right” is commonly looked down upon by students, because they do not have the motivation to succeed, as they did not have to work to get into school and to pay for their schooling. Everyone takes something for granted, whether it is an education, a roof over one’s head, food on the table, or the commencement speaker at one’s high school graduation, everyone forgets to be thankful. As Admiral McRaven stated, “But of all the things I remember, I don’t have a clue who the commencement speaker was that evening, and I certainly don’t
Summer has come to an end and school back in full swing. One is ready to crush the challenges facing a 5th grader. The last bell for recess sounds. Young boys race outside to enjoy the sun’s warmth. Name calling and horse-playing around immediately begins as they plan their weekend fun. Challenging each other to execute silly acts or daring one another to flirt with the girls across the playground. One yells out if you don’t jump from the top you are a sissy. Then one hears ask Julie out first. Recess is almost over when another one yells out he won’t…he’s a gay sissy. Silence has now blanketed the playground and one could hear a pin drop. Saved by the bell it was time to line up and head back to class. The final bell of the day
