Automobiles are very important in today's society. They are a means of transportation and also luxury. The automotive industry is a 904 billion dollar industry.(Franco) Automobiles are everywhere and have been on every continent, they assist us in traversing long distances of land; road or no road. The designs of automobiles vary from manufacturer to manufacturer as well as their country of origin, and what country the said automobile is being sold to. There are also many different styles of automobiles and different countries, or areas tend to have a favorite automobile. The biggest problem with the majority of today’s automobiles is that they burn fossil fuels and we will eventually use up all of our fossil fuels and will need to find something else to power our beloved automobiles. Automobiles are an important part in worldwide commerce.
What exactly is an automobile? An automobile is a self-propelled vehicle that is meant to transport people; and usually has four wheels and an internal-combustion engine for transportation on land. In the year 1886, German inventor Karl Benz received a patent and then designed the Benz Patent-Motorwagen.(Bellis) This early vehicle had three wheels and a 2/3 horsepower engine and could seat two. Benz's early automobile was for transportation of people and had limited use; yet Benz's name is widely known due to Mercedes-Benz. Today there are many different classes of automobile that have a broad spectrum of uses. Automobiles can also be purposed for the transportation of goods across stretches of land. Automobiles do not always use an internal- combustion engine (an engine that creates motive power by burning gasoline, oil, or other fuels along with air, the high temperatur...

In the July 1997 issue of Commentary, James Q. Wilson challenges the consensus among academia’s finest regarding the automobile in his bold article, Cars and Their Enemies. Directed towards the general public, his article discredits many of the supposed negatives of the automobile raised by experts, proves that the personal car is thriving and will continue to thrive because it meets individual preference over other means of transportation, as well as presents solutions to the social costs of cars. Wilson emphasizes that no matter what is said and done in eliminating the social costs of the automobile, experts are not going to stop campaigning against it.
Purchasing a car is one of the biggest and most important decisions that someone will make during their lifetime. Over the past several years, the prices of a vehicle have increased significantly due to the rise of inflation. Economists compare averages of vehicles to calculate and determine the cost of every vehicle that ends up on the car lot. To determine the cost they interpret all the above information and include everything from the cost of making the vehicle to the time of selling it. In the long run, the demand for vehicles is inelastic because they become a necessity for many people. However, in the short run, the demand is elastic because the purchase of a new vehicle can be put off for a while.
Automobiles play an essential role in American society. As if being the major means of transportation was not impressive enough, automotives can be seen on T.V., in movies, in magazines, and can sometimes be indicative of a person’s wealth and social status. On average, Americans drive nearly 40 miles and drive for just over 50 minutes driving per person per day (http://www.bts.gov). That means a person spends roughly one-sixteenth of a day driving. It would make sense, then, to make such an essential part of society as efficient, cost effective, and clean as possible. However, that is not the case. As the years have passed cars have actually begun to move away from efficiency. Hawken writes, “[The automobile] design process has made cars ever heavier, more complex, and usually costlier. These are all unmistakable signs that automaking has beco...
Automobiles play a major role in today's society. Almost every American owns at least one motorized transportation vehicle. Some say they make our lives better by reaching places faster than before. Others say they are a harmful to the environment. Have they made our society better or worse? They may be fast, but do we as humans want our environment to suffer because of time. Face it, cars pollute. And they release destructive chemicals into the air. Air pollution can threaten the health of many subjects in the environment including human beings.
The world of technology is ever changing and advancing. With the automotive industry in play technology is constantly surpassing what is available today with what can be done for tomorrow. Technology and the automotive industry go hand in hand with constant improvement to components of cars. Due to technology advancement there is competition within the car industry, especially between American car companies and European car companies. European car companies provide their buyers with innovative variety and revolutionary luxuries. European car technology is superior to American car technology due to their safety, entertainment, and luxury features.
A vehicle is one of the biggest purchases a person will ever make. Over the years, the prices of an automobile have increased due to the rise of inflation. Due to a price index, the price of an automobile changes over a certain period of time. Economists compare averages of automobiles to calculate the cost of each vehicle that presents itself on a car lot. When all of the above is calculated within the purchase of an automobile, it affects every area of making the automobile to selling the automobile. All of these factors are impacted together for the automobile industry as a whole.
The automotive industry is one of the most important sectors of the economy for every country in the world. It involves a large number of corporations and institutions engaged in the manufacturing process of motor vehicles including designing, developing, manufacturing, marketing, and selling. It contributes to the global economic growth by generating a significant return and creating a ripple effect on supporting the supply chain as well as providing job opportunities for the skilled workers (ACEA, 2016).
Cars have been a necessity for living ever since the first car was manufactured in 1908. Most people will use a car every day, whether it is to get to work at a prompt time or travel anywhere with ease. Car’s create a cheap and easy solution for traveling where you want to go when you want to go. The car needs to remain central in the lives of Americans because it creates the freedom, jobs, and economic support.
A Car is a product that people use for transportation from place to another. First, people innovated a steam powered car. By the time, people started to use different fuels to power the cars. For example, people used hydrogen, petrol, and gasoline to power their cars. Nowadays, most people use cars that are powered by petrol or gasoline, even though it affects the environment and create pollution. Moreover, people have invented electric vehicles, which are powered by electricity. This means that people need to recharge the car between time to time using electricity. As a result, some people think that electric cars might not cause any harm to the environment; on the other hand, some might think that it might cause some environmental harm, but
The automobile industry is a pillar of global economy. Globally automotive contributes roughly 3 % of all GDP output. It historically has contributed 3.0 – 3.5 % to the overall GDP in the US. The share is even higher in the emerging markets, with the rates in china and India at 7 % and rising. China produces the highest number of automobiles followed by US and Japan (oica.net, 2015). The industry supports direct employment of 9 million people to build 60 million vehicles and parts that go into them (oica.net, 2015). Many other industries such as steel, iron, glass, aluminium, textiles etc. are associated with the automotive industry and resulting in more than 50 million jobs owed to the auto
George W. Bush once stated “America is addicted to oil…the best way to break this addiction is through technology.” The United States consumes more oil than any other country even more than China, which is the most populate countries. The United States has used this natural resource in many ways, but mostly it is converted to gasoline which is used for automobiles. Many Americans are concerned about gasoline problems, such as gas prices, oil supply, war over access to foreign oil and air pollution. Many people have attempted to find another alternative to oil to solve these problems. Compared to gasoline powered cars, electric cars use electricity as fuel instead of gasoline. Many people believe that electric cars are better than gasoline powered cars as they seem to have a variety of advantages to society and the environment. However, electric cars can be considered as economically and socially unsuitable because they are very expensive and not prevalent. As a result of this, many consumers find it is very difficult to obtain the electric cars. In order for electric cars to become economically and socially viable, the government should promote electric car programs and subsidies because the electric vehicle is the best solution to the problems.
Think for a second here, what do you use almost every day to get to where you need to go? An automobile is probably what you are thinking of because just about everyone has one. Automobiles have become so common; nine out of every ten families in the United States own some type of vehicle. Now Imagine going through everyday life without one it would be nearly impossible! Automobiles have had a very positive impact on the world and on many people’s lives. However they have also taken quite a negative effect on the world and in life. Automobiles make it very easy to get to and from where you are going. Although automobiles have polluted the world and have taken lots of natural resources to keep going they are still a nice luxury many cannot live without. Automobiles are very reliable if they are kept in good condition and would not have to rely on public transportation.
Most cars advertised in the media today are modern versions of internal combustion vehicles. These modern internal combustion engines are used in different types of, SUV’s, trucks and sport cars. The internal combustion engine uses four steps to burn fossil fuels, which is not environmental friendly. The fuel is pumped into the combustion chamber of the engine. Then the fuel is compressed and burned, which expands under the pressure. The expanding pressure is turned into energy and used to power serval parts within the car. The...
Modern cars and motorcycles are both by definition automobiles. An automobile is defined as a type of transportation mainly used to get the person to their destination rather than goods, it has its own engine and can carry from one to eight passengers but only to be used on the road and can have from two to four wheels.
The fast population growth rate of humans means that the necessity for transportation vehicles is also enormously increasing. Studies have shown that in 1999 the worldwide number of vehicles registered was 700 million. From this huge number of vehicles, the US has a large share, which includes 200 million cars and light trucks. The number of cars worldwide also grew three times faster Competition for good things like public health, making the earth safe to live are positive aspects of competition, but global competition can also have a downside concerning the environment. This is true for the production of vehicles, as companies are coming with designs and new models with improved engines, but fuel consumption and the pollution of the air remains the same.
